There’s been loads of hate from fans about the regs but I actually think the aero regs looks good, it’s the engine regs that look to have been overlooked a bit with the clipping, but if the regs atleast produce good racing wont mind providing they actively try to fix that issue

It’s really early days and don’t want to be apart of the fell for it again award, but the wheel to wheel has been very good so far with what is a fairly pedestrian track

Great start, really rooting for Hadjar to break the curse this year

Can’t catch a break. Positive signs though for his start and his race pace

It was a pretty fun race to watch. Shame the hard tyres never really dropped off for the Mercs to make it interesting at the end of the race

Enjoyed that. That track is 2nd to Monza for the lowest braking time so it's as bad as the clipping will be and it wasn't too horrendous, gave more overtaking opportunities.

When the inevitable happens and Qatar and Jeddah get hooked it should give teams more time to reduce the gap.

Edit: Lol at Piastri BTW, if nobody else will, I'll take great joy in seeing an Aussie make a hash of something in sport.

You can change the regs you can change the tyres but you can never change the Ferrari pit wall

Ferrari could have an engine like Mercedes and they'd find a way to not win..

There is a curse on Aussie drivers in their home grand prix it seems.

That was better than expected.  5 Brits in the top 8. Impressive debut by Lindblad.

Already being lined up for the senior team probably..

Does Russell have many fans?

Not particularly likeable.

Not many of them likeable really are they? Don't see Russell as very different to the rest of the top drivers, most of them bitch about each other and a**eholes with their teams.

I'd certainly take Russell over Lando.

I personally like Alonso the best out of the field as a personality now Kimi has left.

His first comment after qualifying was to congratulate the team for getting kimis car in shape to start 1-2.

More of a team player than most I think.

Was too early for me to watch live!

It's such a battle in my mind between the absolute joy of seeing Lawrence Stroll implode versus the shame in seeing Alonso have to suffer.

Congratulations to Mercedes on their 26, 27 and 28 constructors championship though :appl:. It's easy to point to the engine, but McLaren, Williams and Alpine have the same kit so does show there's a lot of time to be made from the aero of the cars.

Really looking forward to the race though as could be wild being the first of this era.

Read somewhere that Mercedes still have the advantage despite having the same engine as they had more time with it during development phase compared to other teams so that makes sense.

Sounds like a cracking race.   Saw a stat that there were 120 overtakes today compared to 45 last year.

Almost all of the overtakes were battery related, most of which were drivers re-overtaking after the other driver used all of his battery to initially get ahead.

There was actually less brake-related overtakes than last year.

I’m slightly concerned that the merc advantage is not exactly what people think it is.

It speaks volumes when all of the speculation about the engine was that they were gaining the compression ratio advantage when the engine was hot, then when teams brought forward the challenge and pressured the FIA to bring in new tests for the compression when the engine was above 150c, Merc then surprisingly said “yep that’s fine with us, let’s bring those rules in”

I doubt if that was the full extent of their engine tricks they would just go along with it, I suspect they probably have something else up their sleeves that people may have missed and may still retain a decent advantage even after the new regs come in after the summer.

unless I’ve missed something of course, the speculation has been bouncing around for months and the whole thing became a bit of a mess.

I agree. Get rid of the clipping nonsense at the end of straights and it'll be fine.

Even though it's artificial I don't mind the battery deployment stuff. DRS was just as artificial but at least now the overtaken driver has an immediate chance to come back at them instead of having to wait for another DRS zone.

It makes the racing more exciting at least and gives more battles. Which ultimately is what people want to see.
