Defensive midfielder with a number of goal contributions, knows the league, prime age, out of contract and only down the road?

Na too obvious for our lot!

Should be all over this. It doesn’t even feel like one where we would need to try and shift outwards first (like if say it was a centre back where we are well stocked numbers wise and need to see movement).

Got a great head start with some top U21s available to us. Definitely need to keep Harry or Ben can’t see both. Thomas will still be LB I actually don’t think he’s been that bad this season. I honestly can’t wait to see who we bring in because they’ll be minimum 16 leaving.

I’d just like to throw Tom Iorpenda in again. He’s an absolute joy to watch. Just won every end of season award at Notts County.

We’ve probably no chance as Huddersfield now in the same league and more likely he skips league one all together.

Not really mate, he’s been steady had more good games that half the team it’s a position we can improve but I don’t think we will.

I’m not a Thomas hater like most, I try and remain balanced.

For me, he’s been no worse overall than Ricardo on the other side. He had a horrendous run under Cifuentes when it seemed he was responsible for a goal conceded each week. Under Rowett, his performances have steadied out more and been ok.

Technically could that translate to being a good performer in L1? Yes in my opinion. Will he physically be up to it or get bullied. I worry he’d get bullied.

Then there are his wages. He has to be moved in if possible even if performance/ability wise he could be ok.

Also, we just need to clean house and get as many out who have been part of the decline. With Thomas, as well as being part of the 3 relegations in 4, even the year we weren’t completely crap, he was in a Sheffield United side that were. He’s had no positivity in years. Losing is ingrained as it is in the club. But that reason for moving him on isn’t unique to Thomas and it’d be easier to name those who you’d be ok with keeping on his basis (youth and Souttar basically)!

I don’t think he’ll get moved on, he’ll be fine in L1

It’s unrealistic we will move every single player we would like to. Fortunately, many of them are 2027 contract ends so ones like Faes, Reid, Vestergaard and Winks with the extra year that has come out, we might be able to get rid of and Nelson, Stolarcryk etc will fetch fees.

Thomas is one that thanks to the stupid contract extension, with increased wages apparently, will be hard to shift without hugely covering wages. But he does need to go as much as anyone. Whilst he might technically be sufficient, he will get bullied and honestly, he just doesn’t have the mentality to be a professional footballer. People sometimes just end up in the wrong profession for their capabilities and that is the case here.

Kristiansen is another big problem with too long left on his deal.

Just been reading about League One players,  Kyle Wootton, the Stockport Striker who was on for the golden boot with 19 goals has had to fill in at CB for the last 6 games due to injuries. What a bloody league.

Can you imagine Daka/Ayew trying to do a shift at the back lol

I work with a Stockport season ticket holder and apparently he’s been really good but a loss obviously from his main position!

Kyle Wootton is a top marauder. Leaves no stone, or defender, unturned. If Stockport don't go up I'd have a go for Challinor, who would probably bring Wootton and Norwood (player coach) with him. We could (and probably will) do worse.

Archie Collins available on a free straightaway

This one is obvious.

Sometimes we have missed out on obvious free transfers because we have had to clear out others and positions are stacked.

Centre mid, particularly defensive but all over really, is quite a light position. James is going, Winks should go but his replacement is Braybrooke. Page as a youngster but he’s more attacking.

There’s definitely scope to make Collins happen asap. Well you ideally need the manager in place of course….

I'm not being facetious here - do we have any faith that our recruitment system has any real knowledge of League One level players or how to operate in this market?

I certainly do, an' I ain't lyin'

Could do worse than go for some Plymouth players plus Tom Cleverly.

Then again, I'm also a fan of Argyle and would like to see them get up next season (also)

Wonder if we could persuade Sammie Smozdics to drop down to league one on a loan with an option to buy if promoted. Terrific work rate and great professional who would be a great fit and experienced player to support the younger players we will need to rely on.

I know we’re all fairly neg at the moment and rightly so but finally there’s loads of dross on high wages leaving and we have some quality youngsters. If we can get the manager recruitment right and bring in some quality reinforcements then there’s a good project in play here and League One provides a great platform for some of the youngsters to grow. Don’t know why I’m being so positive I need to take a look at myself
