Popular Post MGLCFC Posted 16 August Popular Post Posted 16 August It's the world we live in - no patience, instant gratification. I didn't want Martin, but he's here now. It's absolute madness to talk about giving him the boot after one game. Let's see where we are after a dozen or so games. Remember there was the O'Neill out brigade early in his tenure. Apart from anything else, we can't afford to sack him, he's on a three year contract. Who else would take this job on at the moment? We've also spent what little finances we have on supporting Martin with players he wanted at the club - would these be the players a new manager would require? Hopefully things will settle down, we've had a major overall of playing staff and we need time for things to bed in. 9

RM's football isn't appealing on the eye, but give him time. We should incorporate a 12 hour posting on this forum to let people calm down and post more rationally. 12 1
cropstonfox Posted 16 August Posted 16 August Terrible appointment, No faith in his methods, flexibility or judgement. But he's at our club now, so let's give him a chance and hope he proves us all wrong ala Martin O'Neil. 1
Chelmofox Posted 16 August Posted 16 August 1 hour ago, Pliskin said: Im thinking more simplistic…. The simple process of having a focal point. What Martin is trying to achieve won’t work, it won’t work with Cullen or Bobby Reid, it completely stifles our attack and essentially means we’re completely ineffective going forward, the XG yesterday was unacceptable playing against essentially a league 2 team.  I don't think Burns is any good myself, I wasn’t impressed, but I don’t think Bobby or Cullen are any good either, but the one redeeming quality Burns has, is he has a presence about him, and could at least occupy the defenders and be a nuisance.  I don’t hate Martin, I just don’t think he’s a good coach, the way he presents himself and peddles his philosophy mascaraed’s a fairly inadequate coach in my opinion… and I can’t see this season being any different to last, because whilst we are perfecting passing sequences, we won’t be productive enough in the final third to score enough goals to even think about promotion. I get it, but I think saying 'play Burns there' as just throwing poo at the wall. I strongly doubt anything would have come of it and i think it makes sense to play Burns in his strongest position, otherwise its square pegs in round holes all over the pitch. Martin had to make a decision and stick to it.  On reflection (and calming down a little), and i hate saying this, i think with what Martin has available, playing Bobby was the right call, but CANNOT be moving forward. Bobby got on the end of 3 chances, and arguably should have converted 1 of them. BUT, we've seen even the best (even Vardy) miss these sorts of chances over the years, so just because Bobby does I probably shouldn't be throwing my toys out of the pram - yet. In those 3 scenarios Bobby was in the right position, and Bobby was able to provide the link up play (average at it mind you) that i know Russell wants. Not saying he was any good mind you, just that he performed the role asked of him.  Think (rightly or wrongly) Russell wants to keep the overall shape and style he wants with what he has available, which after game 1 is fair. Bobby will get swapped and become 2nd choice, and i am sure we see Souttar and Okoli replace (pleeeaaassee!). 2

TJB-fox Posted 16 August Posted 16 August If you’re one of the idiots that booed yesterday, take your frustrations up with the board and ownership not with the manager.   1

It is what it is. One game, one point. Let’s support Russell, and understand we are in a transitional period where patience may be required. Not having it. Patience is gone. Patience landed us in this mess.  The same mistakes are happening now that happened under Rodgers. We barely created chances against a team that was in League 2 last season and we barely created chances against a team that is in league 2 last week. We yet again have a manager that is going to slavishly adhere to the ‘King Power Way’ no matter where it takes us and its going to take us to League 2.  Enough is enough. 2

The players and the manager do not deserve a free ride and or patience when they are barely creating chances against this level of opposition.  The entire future of the club is on the line, they need to be putting in maximum effort week in week out because the wages they draw are killing us. I did not see maximum effort or quality from the senior professionals yesterday and they deserve all the heat they get.  People want to be seen as being patient or taking a measured approach to things but tor the money we are paying out and the position we was in just a few years ago we should be blowing teams aways 3/4-0 most weeks. Not scraping by barely troubling teams that were in League 2 when we were in the Premier League 2 short seasons ago.Â

Just because we were in the premier league a few years ago doesn’t mean we’re entitled to turn up and blast teams away. You’ll have seen it with Ipswich, Forest, Leeds, Sunderland, Portsmouth, Bolton, Wigan etc in previous seasons - just because you have better infrastructure doesn’t mean you’re a gimme to go straight back up.  I’m fully expecting us to get promoted and anything less than that is a massive failure but telling me that Martin & Co deserved to get booed yesterday is a bit silly I’m afraid.  We’re 1 game in ffs. Edited 16 August by TJB-fox 4

Don't say sack the board, because that isn't happening. Don't say sack the manager because we can't afford to.Â

I think my point was more that it was the wrong appointment in the first place, lurching from possession based managers to survival mode and back again. That's why Pearson was the perfect appointment in this league last time, keep it relatively simple, play to players strengths and relentlessly pick up wins. Â It's all on the ownership basically. DezFox Posted 16 August Posted 16 August My opinion hasn't changed at all. That game was exactly what I expected. It seems madness to want to get rid of him already but I guess if you didn’t want him in first place it’s not really jumping the gun. I don’t want Martin, don’t rate him whatsoever so would love it he wasn’t our manager. However, I am willing to give him time to prove me wrong. I really hope he does.Â

As for Top, he'll go when he gets the right deal for KP I assume. But you haven't answered the question with a realistic alternative. Yes, some may want to sack the manager now, most would like the board to go, but it's not happening any time soon. Â

Again, I keep hearing this, but no.  If people didn’t want him in the first place (with a plethora of good arguments based on freely available evidence at previous clubs) then it would be extremely fickle and inconsistent to then say he should be given time and ‘a chance’.  Nobody on this forum has any impact on this bloody manager. But if you didn’t want him, stand by it. The sooner he is sacked and replaced by someone competent the better.  And I know that won’t happen, it’s a forum. I’m some random bloke on a football forum, I’m not taking responsibility for King Power’s bad decisions and changing my feelings as if me giving him a chance has any impact whatsoever. It’s not my fault Top has pissed money away on this guy, is it? Edited 16 August by Kitchandro
