'They want us gone' - Man Utd fans' fury over ticket ultimatum

 

Manchester United fans have reacted with fury after "thousands" had their season-ticket accounts restricted.

The action follows an attempt by United to identify potential ticket touts and those breaking the club's ticketing terms and conditions.

But supporters have told BBC Sport that those who have been informed their season tickets are now at risk of being revoked include many of the club's most loyal followers, and insist that the majority have done nothing wrong.

"I feel angry about it - they just want us gone," Andy, a season ticket holder for more than 35 years, who was informed his account has been restricted on Monday night, told BBC Sport.

"My dad has been a season-ticket holder since 1974, when we were in the second division. He is a pensioner now and I have to help him with all the online stuff since digital tickets became a thing.

"Going the match is our bond. Things like that are what keep older people alive sometimes.

"It's stressful enough for my own mental health but I think it could make my dad ill."

Manchester United declined to comment on the process or fan reaction when asked to do so.

There will eventually be no more season ticket holders in the top 10 or so clubs in England, the clubs prefer corporates and day/weekend trippers who spend money in the club shop.

 

The city councils like Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Newcastle prefer day/weekend trippers they are more likely to spend hundreds in the city on a matchday weekend

So many clubs have shat the bed trying to make simple, clean badges for the digital age. Juventus should be in The Hague for what they did to theirs.

I presume they could check seat numbers and fan IDs if it’s the same people all the time selling their tickets but there must be so many who cannot make a game  once in a while so offer their tickets in good faith elsewhere to fill the seat .

Liverpool issue bans as £1.2m seized from ticket touts

 

Liverpool have issued over 400 lifetime bans after more than £1.2m of assets relating to the illegal selling of tickets was seized by police.

The club worked with Merseyside Police to seize the assets from organised ticket touts.

The police operation focused on the laundering of criminal proceeds from illicit ticket sales and took place alongside the club's crackdown on ticket touting, both online and in the ground.

The club has since issued 432 lifetime bans to the guilty parties, as well as 115 indefinite suspensions.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Suffield said: "This is a fantastic example of partnership working between ourselves and Liverpool Football Club for the good of the fans and the general public.

"We will always take action to protect genuine fans who fall victim to touts when all they are trying to do is simply purchase tickets to support their team."

From the assets seized, the money was split between Merseyside Police and the Home Office.

Last year, BBC Sport revealed Liverpool had shut down 145,000 ticket accounts over the previous two years as part of a crackdown on touting.

And last season alone, Liverpool analysed almost 700,000 ticket registrations, with 67,663 suspected fake accounts blocked or cancelled, and a further 121,379 accounts currently under investigation.

A further 3,847 tickets were cancelled for suspicious purchase activity in the 2025-26 season. They were put back on sale as general admission tickets, increasing the number available for genuine fans.

There was also a significant increase in targeted stops carried out on matchdays by the club, who prevented access to the turnstiles for accounts with suspicious activity.

These stops were carried out at Anfield – an average of 300 per home game – and at away games both in the Premier League and in Europe.

If they just had the Zebra from the 70s/80s that they're using on their away shirt atm it'd be perfect - simple without looking like a ****ing esports team. I get scalability blah blah blah but how hard are these things to reproduce in 2026? Most clubs are sticking retro badges on merch anyway so it can't be that big an issue

I guess a reason is because of all the FFP stuff now but loads of players seem to be at a club for one season now and then off. Lots of big money moves for players that don't justify it.
