ACF Posted 5 July Posted 5 July He is without doubt the best defender at the club. I’m sure he’s already gone but we could have used his height and fight to get in the end of a ball at set pieces a lot over the last 2 seasons and next season will be no different. 2

But something our previous managers to a man didn’t work out ( and some on here) he can play a bit too.

He's been here 3.5 season, its not really worked out. We need to drain the swamp and rebuild. He’s never been part of the swamp, he’s stood on the bank with very clean shorts! Move heaven and earth to keep.

The fact that it’s not worked out has nothing to do with Souttar and everything to do with how dysfunctional our toxic club has been. It would absolutely be in our best interests to keep him, but unfortunately that’s unlikely to happen. Edited 5 July by ClaphamFox 4
RowlattsFox Posted 5 July Posted 5 July I think the only way he stays is if he doesn't want to take a wage cut. Championship sides are bound to be in for him. 2

I agree but I think he will be looking to leave and we will be looking to cash in. We paid 15m, hes been here 3.5 years, he probably has 5m remaining amortisation on the accounts. So anything above 5m we are booking a profit, so we are likely to make enough to make us want to sell. Edited 5 July by coolhandfox 1

Why wasn't he fancied by Enzo or Cooper? I just think he time here has gone stale and it in the best interest of both parties to have a change. He just played at the WC, do you really think he fancies League 1, he been on the big stage and it his chance to get a decent move. He gets a fresh start we get money in to rebuild and another big wage of the wage bill. He's 28 in October and by the end of this season will have 1 year left on his contract. We need to be looking to the future. Edited 5 July by coolhandfox

This is the point, we saw more competitiveness and fight from Souttar in those 2 games than we did from the rest of the defence for the rest of the season. 2

The 2 games that he was available for. I really like Souttar but we don’t have the luxury of hoping that he stays fit. He’s had a pretty good WC so hopefully as others have said, we break even and make our money back on him. Add it to the list of “could have beens”.

RichardGearman Posted 5 July Posted 5 July If someone is willing to spend money on a player who has been injured for 2 years you would snap their hands off. I like his qualities but if you offer me 5mil for him then it's a no brainer.
Chelmofox Posted 5 July Posted 5 July Thought he's had a good World Cup (terrible penalty aside), but Aussies were deep blocking which suits him. Jannik would have probably had a half decent game in that setup. Im not in the keep at all costs camp. His injury record is horrific, and i wouldn't be surprised to hear hes been playing with a niggle during the tournament and will need some time off - seems to be the Harry Soutar way. 1

He's had two serious injuries, other than those I don't think he's been especially injury prone.
MPH Posted 5 July Posted 5 July So he HAS had 2 seriously. He came back for one game, played a blinder and has then played every minute of the Aussies World Cup campeign.. he played very very well and hasn’t shown any adverse reactions to his injuries. If we can afford to, we should definitely keep. However, I think we will receive an offer we just can’t say no to.. 3
MPH Posted 6 July Posted 6 July Jude Bellingham is only 23. This is a prime Gerrard performance, if not better!

SB87_LCFC Posted 6 July Posted 6 July £5m bid expected from Wrexham and Sheff Utd once he has started training with us again....inevitable

If you were a lower half prem team (Newcastle, Forest, Palace, Cov (FFS!) etc) on the look out for a centre back, and you went shopping at the world cup, you'd instantly be drawn to Souttar, especially as you can pick him up for relatively nothing, in Prem level money terms. Captain. Good age. Proper defender. - Only thing that goes against him is his injury record, but for £3m-5m it'll be a 'gamble' someone will definitely take. He's gone, isn't he.
les-tah Posted 8 July Posted 8 July (edited) Great defender but absolutely need to cash in tbh, especially after just had a good injury free world cup and that seagrave is his kryptonite and will probs weaken when he sets foot on it again. Edited 8 July by les-tah

As with most deals we will probably see with our players, future promised fees will be included a lot to drive more money into the valuation, similarly to the Monga deal. Expect Wrexham to offer either Okonkwo or Kellior-Dunn as part of the deal.
