A conspiracy theorist might suggest that they're letting more go so as not to add astronmical stoppage time to the end of matches, as they've already got the 3 minutes added on for hydration breaks. It'll be the U.S. TV network cabals.

I know it’s cool to bash all things American but this ‘hydration break’ has come from FIFA 100%. No talk or hints or anything from any American networks.

Well the USA seem to be the only ones benefitting from it.

Do you think they are the only network showing commercials during the break? I’d put money on them not being.

also, a reminder that the USA is not the only nation hosting this World Cup .  Our next match is in Mexico. And guess what? The game will have  hydration breaks! ( as do all the matches in Canada).

None of which has anything to do with my statement that the USA TV companies are reaping enough money through these breaks to reimburse their costs to broadcast the football

That’s not actually what you said. You said the USA seem to be the only ones benefitting from it, so my reply was entirely appropriate

What makes you say that particularly?

Loads of teams have improved after a little pep talk .

England twice yesterday for example.

if you mean the American football association earn money from them through sponsorship then that might be different although suspect it’s more likely to be FIFA.

Been fine other than the hydration breaks, pulling shirts and a bit of tussling is hardly the worst thing about modern football, everyone harks back to the days when players used to assault each other as the golden period of the game.

I'm sure some teams have benefitted but my view is that it isn't needed in most games and FIFAs lame reason that it evens up for all the teams is nonsense when there are so many other inequalities for teams not least the travelling, I doubt Iran would agree with the way they've been treated by the USA and ignored by FIFA.

Yeah I did mean how the USA tv companies have already recovered a large proportion of their broadcasting costs with adverts shown during the hydration breaks, frankly I simply do not believe, with the way Infantino has been kowtowing to Trump that there has been no influence/pressure from the USA TV companies/Trump for them

They've still not solved the verbal bombardment from players over so many decisions. I understood that only the Captains are allowed to speak to the ref. It seems to me another law introduce that is completely ignore by the refs even though it's for their benifit.

As much as I sympathise  with the Senegal team their surrounding of the ref with that last minute penalty was a terrible example for football

Still no better or worse than it's been for the last 20+ years

But there's no reason why it shouldn't be better other sports seem to have managed it.

They've obviously not identified it as something they're particularly bothered about, because the covering your mouth red card rule is an example of something they stamped out immediately by a simple rule change, so they can do it for things they feel are an issue.

To prove Davie's point, Fox Sports are going to ad breaks but the Spanish language commentary in the US via Telemundo isn't.

Btw the real disgrace of the World Cup is the treatment of Iran. And subsequent other immigration issues.

FIFA were happy to strip Indonesia of hosting U20 World Cup because of their refusal to permit Israel access into the country. FIFA then allow Indonesia to host U17 World Cup - no Israel appearance

Infantino is way worse than Blatter ever was. Blatter was financially corrupt Infantino seems to be corrupt at every level and has an ego on a par with Trump. But he's guaranteeing his continued control by favourable treatment for the rising nations which I doubt is for social-minded or beneficial reasons

Blatter was basically old school corrupt Berlusconi style, he probably wasn’t even that bad but they wanted to move him on.

It's not been a bad World Cup, and I'm hoping now the knock outs are properly up and running it'll catch fire a bit - already been a couple of good games - but there were so many group stage games and the entire period lacked any jeopardy at all, 72 games in that period where nigh on everyone had a safety net. The fault of FIFA as opposed to the host nations though.

It just hasn't grabbed me yet like Russia or even Qatar did.

if we're sticking with 48/64 teams the group games should be pre-tournament maybe split across and held in some of the smaller nations.

The captains only rule only applies when the ref initiates it, its not a total ban on players being allowed to communicate or surround. More of a tool to help them out when you get the sudden arguments over a decision. Still very under utilised though as you say considering its for their benefit.

there’s many nations  benefitting from adverts  during the breaks.. the 3 home nations of Canada, Mexico, USA.. in Europe I know France and Portugal are, loads of teams all over Africa as well and Asia too.. you’ll forgive me hopefully for not having an intimate knowledge of every single nations tv broadcasting policy lol but America clearly isn’t the only one.

No but with Infantino kowtowing to Trump and the USA generally I still can't get by the potential influence they have and continue to do so. Look at their treatment of Iran which FIFA have totally ignored. The stupid trophy he gave Trump, Trump presenting the World Cup to the winners, no mention of Canada or Mexico being involved.

you’ll get no arguments from me about Trump. I’d like to think I’ve made it clear  in other threads what I think about him personally.

Some of the games have been boring as feck, but im sure most WC's were the same at some stage (Except Italia 90!!!

Hydration breaks when the stadium is 15 and air conned is a completed farce and we all know it- Just hope it dont catch on for the ad break revenue.

The countdown is pure yankiness and cringe but again the yanks love that sh1t.

The "famous" people on the screens we have no idea WTF they are.

Infentile is a bitch and should be BOooed more than he is whenever his mug appears on the screen, like Cosbeh said FIFA should be ashamed at how they treated Iran but its brushed under the carpet.

Ona positive note I like the 5 second rule for throw ins- thats SHOULD be implemented.
