Popular Post RumbleFox Posted 23 July Popular Post Posted 23 July Genuinely would rather is just play the youth all season. Don’t even care if we don’t go up. I’m so completely fed up with us, it would be nice just to have a team I don’t hate. 17
trooky Posted 23 July Posted 23 July (edited) I think Nelson, Faes, Souttar, Skipp and Mavididi will leave before the window shuts, so the team that starts in September is going to be different to the team that we saw in pre-season. We have some good academy players that will feature heavily and be given a chance in August to cement a 1st team place. IMO we need to sign at least 5-10 players depending how we start in August and several experienced leaders. I don't see Braybrooke, BDR, Alves, Hutchinson, Otchere, Page, Opoku, Chaplin and Evans getting the +90 goals between them that we need for promotion. Edited 23 July by trooky 2
Popular Post adejo92 Posted 23 July Popular Post Posted 23 July Having sobered up slightly, and following the praise of the team post game.... I would add that when I say all the players came over, a few didn't, and would you believe, that few included Mavididi, Faes, Skipp, Okoli & Thomas...all the players that are the problem with the club.. I know Choudhury gets stick on here, but he was over for the longest and had given just about everything he was wearing away to the kids that were there. Martin, Chaplin, Souttar and most of the youngsters all came over and had a laugh. Evans laughing about his crunching tackle, Chaplin having a laugh blaming the pitch for his bad touch etc etc... As per the football, it was a bit like watching 2 Sunday league teams. Think Saturday will be much more of a challenge. 5 1

Rubbersoul Posted 23 July Posted 23 July I like that Braybrooke & Alves look that they have a good connection. Those 2 and Joseph linked up well on the right at times

There was no home or away area so the whole stadium was open. The stand behind the goal there was probably about 8 people! I think they came over to our area specifically because we had a big Leicester flag draped down off the railings which obviously drew their attention. I would imagine there might be more for Saturdays game, but can't imagine many more. Edited 23 July by adejo92 2
stevostadium Posted 23 July Posted 23 July Did anyone hear RM's comments after teh game ref signings? Not heard it myself but was told he sounded frustrated about signings incoming?

I think after the last few years it would be really special if a team made up of Leicester produced players brought the connection back. In Braybrooke, Alves, Aluko, Joseph & Page you’ve got players that can be very good at this level IMO. Whilst the others can definitely play a role. 1

I want the academy lads heavily involved, but if we build our side around them completely, we'll be out of steam at Christmas. We've shipped out some of the experienced deadwood, which is a start. With the greatest respect, we have not had the help in the market this team needed.” (Technically that was Rogers in 2022 but it’ll be the same sentiment… and root cause)

I don't think anyone will match our £10mil valuation of Nelson. He's our only centre back comfortable enough on the ball to play Martin ball so I really hope we keep him. Otherwise i think we might be in for a disaster of a season.
Rubbersoul Posted 23 July Posted 23 July Actually forgot to say thought Thomas played really well yesterday

Only one team scored 90 goals in league one last season, and only two scored over 75. The team in 6th scored 49 goals, so I'm not sure why we need 90 goals for promotion. In both 23/24 and 24/25 no team scored 90 goals in the season. Edited 23 July by slymunn bad spelling! 2

Thats only 2 a game, a team the size of Leicester needs to score 75 minimum in league 1, maybe more. It's nice to promote players from the academy but if we don't get promoted, our finances will only get worse. We have to up. Its a huge risk to go into September without adding several proven goalscorers and leaders at this level IMO.

Spending on 'older proven' is a part of the reason the club is financially where we are already. Its a similar risk to the proven leaders the club had signed over the last five years.. The club just needs the right players with the right mentality regardless of age and stature. 2

'Experienced leaders' has being used to describe Coady, Ayew, BDR, Begovic, Bertrand, Lascelles over the last five years by managers. Its also not a phrase I would use to describe up and coming players, so it would be describing older players surely?

Depends on what you mean by proven Aaron Ramsey, Lascelles, Jordan James, Julian Carranza, Joe Aribo, Okoli, Skipp, El Khannouss all had significant minutes at similar levels to the ones they were signed to play at.

Okoli, Skipp and BEK were signed for the PL and unproven at that level. Carranza and Ramsey were also unproven at championship level. Lascelles and Aribo are experienced journeymen and not the right profile either. JJ was young, a leader and also proven at championship level. He's the profile of player we need and we should looking for similar types IMO. Edited 23 July by trooky

Surely it would not make sense to asset strip and set us up for L1 failure to find a buyer, as that would damage further the KP bargaining position- think it’ll be cheaper younger signings to try to bulk up the squad value prior to a sale but I would be stunned if we didn’t make a good few signings- even looking like we might go up will probably encourage bidders, with a lowered wage bill and a lot of young academy squad members and the new infrastructure, if anything it seems they are doing what should’ve been done years ago because they’ve realised the club has to look sane to a buyer
