Hope they have made sure that Souttar takes charge of passing the ball out,

not Okoli. That would frustrate me last season watching Ricardo lazily pass back just for it to be given away.

Our attack has to not include Mavadidi.  He has proven to be a failure.  It’s not like he is even getting in positions to make a poor cross or shot.

We need to see changes like the above, not the same dross that will remind us why we are where we are.

Would sooner there be 2 different CB's to Souttar and Okoli (i dont buy into the Souttar praise at all), but i cant stomach to see Faes start, and we all know deep down Nelsons injury is a serious one. I think it would be harsh to stuff Aluko in there.

No Mavi in the squad at all please.

Potential cup tied issues for some going forward might affect the squad make up

Does any club buying anyone really care about a player being cup tied for the Caribou cup? Really?

It's still mad to me that for the last few years I've had to get used to thinking players signed for the Premier League aren't even good enough for us in the Championship and now it's League One.

Im not sure if Page or Braybrooke should take that 6 position, as ideally i would like to see them both attacking more. But the 3 lads should be starting this.

I don’t think Page and Braybrooke play together at the start of the season. Martin knows he is under pressure, so will be a bit more defensive, which is why I think he will play Skipp with Braybrooke. Later on in the season, if we are doing well I can see Braybrooke at 6 with Page and Chaplin ahead of him.

Most league two teams won’t make it past the 1st round

The problem with Okoli is that he isn't a football player

This is what gets me.

The problem is, our recent purchases have been players who havent been good enough to be regular starters for other PL clubs (Golding,  Skipp) or legs are on the way out, and were squad players anyway (Ayew, Bobby). I think we have assumed that they would step up.

hmm - we shall see. Brussel wants us high up the pitch, and I just dont think Skipp lends himself well to that. Skipps defensive attributes have hardly been a shining light for us as well.

Didn't this change last season anyway? I think you can now play for two clubs?

I think we’d all like to see a Braybrooke, Page and Chaplin/Cullen midfield, but Martin has avoided using anyone but Skipp and occasionally Neale/Hamza in the 6. It’s flogging a dead horse to keep believing that is going to change in the actual season even though it didn’t throughout what was a fair amount of experimentation and tinkering pre season

Players can play for two different clubs in the same Carabao Cup season. Rules have changed recently.

Those of you expecting to see thomas, skipp, okoli & mavididi absent, are probably going to be disappointed.

Maybe long term, but I suspect he'll feel it's too soon and too much of an unknown to start Watson and Macfarlane. And Skipp, I know a lot of you hate him, but he's been good throughout preseason and has been pretty much first choice - as good as page is, he's not ahead of skipp in the pecking order, and i believe braybrooke (a natural 6) has been earmarked for one of the 8 spots.  Also, unless Alves is considered fit again, it'll probably be Couliabaly on the right.

If he opts for what he feels is his best available XI, i'd expect to see: Jakob - Joseph/Okoli/Souttar/Thomas  -  Skipp - Alves or coulibaly/Chaplin/Braybrook/Mavididi - Cullen

Which I think is a) a nice balance of young and old and b) more than good enough to get a result.

Yep. Guehi notably. And L1/L2 mostly dumped out at this stage, so cup tied matters aren’t really a thing

I agree - but I think what the tinkering has shown him is that he has lots of options:  as it stands he has 5 players who can play at #6 (skipp, hamza, page, braybrook, neale).   Plus various options at 8 and as a false 9.

This is what I'm happiest about - in previous years we've known who the first XI will be with little variation and pretty much where every player (perhaps bar skipp and page) was going to play.  We have so many options this year, the chances of things getting stale, of players getting complacent is exponentially reduced.

For those who were saying it would be too soon for likes of Watson to play,  this is essentially an extended friendly so all more reason to blood the recent signings to support gelling.

Haven’t really been following things over the summer break, so I’m going with -

                    Begovic

Ricky      Faes       Vesty    Viktor

                     Winks

Fatawu.   El Canoe  Ayew  Monga
                      Daka

Well I think that shows just how different this season is going to be!

Joseph          Souttar      Okoli         McFarlane

                                 Skipp

           Chaplin                      Braybrook

Alves                                                     Watson

                                Cullen

Not a bad team that at all

I haven't been following us for a couple of seasons either and that teams full of premier league experience - Stevie Cooper definitely got there in the end.

Sweet dreams are made of this, who am I to disagree, I travelled the world and the seven seas watching Leicester play in Europe
