aussie-fox Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 when i visited leicester on holiday, we went to the training ground and Birch was only too pleased to take us on a tour of the club. If we get rid of the birch what are you left with at half time etc? if you just play music, soon enough your going to lose the little kids who like the half time entertainment. the kids are the future so they needs something to keep them interested. i dont think it's the easiest thing to get in front of 25,000 people each week and be the funniest guy in the world. go to the football to watch the football, if you want to see some comedian of something go to a comedy bar. or else go get a pie at h/t
lcfcalan Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 well apparantly Jonbluefox9 lives in Mountsorrel and thats where I grew up till I was about 18! Amazing its caused this much fuss! Trust you ..........ALWAYS the culprit ! I still am catching up here , but Birch has IMO done a great and loyal service to this club, I would hate to think he was just being ousted for 'restructural' reasons , I will miss him , and the club will miss the input he has had.
Magictv Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 argh im confused, i saw this thread in humanities and was confused, i went on lcfc.co.uk at school and was still confused as it was banned by the IT idiots and now i've read this thread i'm still confused could someone explain please?
blue army Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 This has nothing to do with what kicked off earlier, just merely a poll to see what the general consensus is on Alan Birchenall from Leicester fans. what kicked of earlier with the birch?
MrsJohnMurphy Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 the hawksbee and jacobs show on talksport is live from a curry house in leicester tomorrow (the spice of india, i think). . apparently the birch is going to be a guest along with half the cricket team & willie thorne, might be worth a listen.
Magictv Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 , i didnt even know anything kicked off earlier.
Michael Doyle Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 The City without the Birch wouldent be the same. HT entertainment gone........ COME ON YOU MIGHTY FOXES MadMick
Disillusioned Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Whilst recognising that the Birch has a cult following amongst LCFC die-hards I think he's had a very comfortable ride on the gravy train. It's long been a mystery to me how people find his boorish put-downs amusing (no doubt he watches Jim Davidson DVD's for inspiration). And a complete puzzle as to how company bosses would subject their best clients to Birch's unique brand of corporate hosting ('fooking shut up while I read the team sheet'). I must admit he did make me laugh once though. Gary came back for a guest appearance following his transfer to Barcelona in 1986. Unluckily he bumped into the Birch on his way in who looked him up and down and then said: 'Fookin £2.5m and he keeps his kit in a Tesco bag!' ...My name's the Birch fookin' good night!

Some of the stuff he says is verging on embarassment, but he does have his moments where he's extremely funny. It isn't an easy job for someone to thoroughly entertain thousands of people on matchday and at corporate events. I think Birch does it fairly well and the fact he's seen as a cult hero and abit of a Leicester legend means that he's perfect for the job. Get rid of him and it wouldn't be the same, I guarantee that in a few months we'd have thread after thread about how embarassing and annoying the 'new PA' guy is at the club. It's a pretty thankless task, Birch does it well so let him be. One quote from the birch that was funny and embarassing was at an event I went at LCFC and he was on the mic, a young waitress walked past to put something down on a table nearby and birch piped up with 'good grief if I were her dad i'd still be bathing her'. Que a mixture of hysterics and disbelief, pure Birchenall.
Guest Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Most of us only see the Birch on matchdays, but there is a lot he apparently does behind the scenes as part of his work for the community department. Without knowing the facts, who am I to say he should or shouldn't be sacked? I can't believe how judgmental people can be. Ok, so he's not your cup of tea (I find his SOH somewhat archaic I must admit), but what's the alternative? The PA entertaining us from his little cubby-hole? I don't think so.

Do they have those scantily clad dancers anymore?
Babylon Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Do they have those scantily clad dancers anymore? Yes but Birch is bathing them.
Suffolk_fox Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Listen, 30k is sod all. I earn nearly that, and the company I work for has a much much smaller turnover than LCFC. And nobody here earns anything like what the players earn!!! I doubt whether Birch is Part Time - he is down the training pitch, he has his own office too, no doubt and I reckon alot of the Corporate Hospitality stuff takes place outside of the Mon-Fri 9-5!! Birch may make some of us cringe, but the contribution he makes to the club is much bigger. I doubt there is anything in this rumour anyway, but please people - £30k in a football club is no great drain on resources. Alot of people take that away per week!
adam Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 30K is nothing at a football club, if davies thinks it is maybe he should cut his pay by that amount as he is rinsing LCFC. (50k invested 120k a year) Davies out
Phube Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 It is true that Birch's SOH is lacking somewhat in this day and age, but he is a product of late 60's/70's football where the likes of Best, Marsh, Bowles, Worthington were real jack the lads (not my cuppa tea granted) but in them days a fat person was called fat, men oggled/whistled at pretty girls in public (not just in seedy lap-dancing bars!) changing the attitude of someone 50 plus is not easy (just ask big Ron!). But be that as it may, his service at the club (IMO) is invaluable... LONG LIVE THE BIRCH!!!
werestandingup_weresittingdown Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 does anyone know if his removal is with immediate effect??? will he be there on sat?? if so im sure we'll hear a big.......one alan birchenall.....theres only one alan etc etc
Darth Fox Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 does anyone know if his removal is with immediate effect??? will he be there on sat?? if so im sure we'll hear a big.......one alan birchenall.....theres only one alan etc etc Is he definately going then?
The Don Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Has anyone tried to E-mail TD?? I know people normally get replies from him.

May as well pay the ticket office staff 30k also then.
LCFC UK Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 May as well pay the ticket office staff 30k also then. Well the poll seems to pretty much resemble the view of most CITY fans, shame the other 25 thousand dont come on hear and vote.

Ric Flair Posted 1 March 2006 Author Posted 1 March 2006 Ric Why do you do this to me..?? Because they are extremely unfunny and blatant lies. Please stop posting utter bollocks about Birch.
