Ric Flair Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 An ex-colleague who has just moved to the Sports Desk at the (London) Evening Standard, has heard a couple of 'whispers' in regard to City:- "Rob Kelly is in discussions with released Fulham left-back Adam Green and ex-Palace midfielder Aki Riihilahti, with a view to signing both on Free transfers" Apparently Green is 22, WAS highly rated at Fulham, but has not been able to claim a regular place in the 1st team, because of experienced Internationals ahead of him (interesting that the 'signing on' of Marshall as Chief Scout - who was at Fulham for many years - might facilitate this ?). Riihilahti has also recently lost his place at Palace - and wants more regular football. I'd be happy to see both of them here. Green was very highly rated there but so was Elvis having said that. Thracian might think this will be the end of Sheehan but I don't think it will be if we sign a new left back. Riihilahti is very good, got the experience we apparently need and a good passer of the ball. Doesn't score that many, but Wesolowski can score goals if needed. I'd be happy with these two.
Ric Flair Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 We are facing competition apparently from Sheff Wednesday for Green (he has been on loan there - competition for Gilbert ?!) and a return to Finland for Riihilahti. Gilbert is injured for 9 months.
bald reynard Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 Gilbert is injured for 9 months. Sounds like the 'whisper' re. Green might be correct then ?
12FRYATT Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 Leicester will beat off local rivals Birmingham, West Brom and Coventry to the signing of David Thompson.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 Leicester will beat off local rivals Birmingham, West Brom and Coventry to the signing of David Thompson. Snigger. Sorry.
12FRYATT Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 Snigger. Sorry. I dont blame you. some of these things are so crappy!
Stevosevic Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 Leicester will beat off local rivals Birmingham, West Brom and Coventry to the signing of David Thompson. your opinion/guess or do you have a link?
escape2victory Posted 19 May 2006 Posted 19 May 2006 your opinion/guess or do you have a link? Its from that football rumours website, bloody rubbish !!
lookwhaticando Posted 20 May 2006 Posted 20 May 2006 I'd be happy to see both of them here. The number of defenders we're looking to sign is a bit worrying for some. Another CB (McAuley) and another LB. Someone must surely be on his way out if we sign these two. If we're signing a proper LB, perhaps it's a sign that Nissa's days in that role are numbered - meaning he's either backup for LB and CB. Then Sheehan is another player for the LB slot. We'll have 6 CB's including Stearman. Some of them won't get many games at all if we maintain the steady lineup policy. Midfield is where we need signings more than anywhere... so it's good to see like there's some potential movement on that front. I saw that Riihilahti had been released sometime earlier this week or last, and thought about suggesting him as a possible signing - he's experienced, he's got a few good seasons left in him probably (he's 30, I think) and he's a central midfielder, where we need some cover. If he's as good as you think, Ric, I'd be pleased if we got him. At least that means we're less likely to call upon the services of one particular erractic left-footed Aussie, to play central midfield. That Haapla (sp?) guy is Finnish too - perhaps we're going in for both of them to form a dynamic new midfield pairing Tho if we signed them both, you'd have to wonder about the future of some of the current midfielders... Anything new on the Haapla front, anyone?
Smiley Tom Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 We will only sign 1 defender this summer and none of the current back four will be leaving unless the club receive a stupid offer. Nissa is likely to play left back next season as the McAuley deal looks like going through. If it falls through then we may sign a left back in which case Nissa will cover CB. The only other signings will be 2 midfielders. Rob prefers a central midfileder and a left mid. He thinks he can convert Maybury into a proper right sided midfielder. A deal for Welsh is unlikely with Sunderland looking for a fee. Tiatto is unlikely to stay as he has been offered vastly reduced terms. Rob is keen on him as experienced backup but no more than that. The only chance of more transfers are if the club can move some fringe players on. There are some lower league clubs looking at Elvis. De Vries is definately not wanted. There may be some movement with Sylla and Douglas too. If these all happened the club would have more room to bring in others. Don't expect many moves though. There are plenty of negotiations ongoing at the moment though and Rob is definately not away on holiday. And lastly Kelly has his eye on a couple of coaches. It could be one or the other or maybe even both.

Tarzan Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 I was reading in the leicester footy paper at the end of last season and theres a rumour that we could be getting an icelandic under 18 international striker.
Tarzan Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 I'd quite like to see dickov back at the foxes but hes a cert for man city
dandannieldanok Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 Ric Flair should know this, is Kenny Lunt out of contract at Crewe? I'd love to see him here!
Smiley Tom Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 Defintely inside information. Apparetly we also inquired after Dicov though only in just. TD sent him a text ealier this week to ask him if he fancied coming back now that he was out o contract. The Man City thing seems a cert though cos they love him there.
Ric Flair Posted 22 May 2006 Posted 22 May 2006 Ric Flair should know this, is Kenny Lunt out of contract at Crewe? I'd love to see him here! Yes he is. Crewe have offered him a new deal but Gradi has said he doubts he'll sign as bigger clubs will be after him. As regard to that Icelandic lad, his name is Aaron Palomares and according to someone from Iceland who posts on here it's a Mick Dundeel.
davieG Posted 22 May 2006 Posted 22 May 2006 From Fans FC Wolves & Leicester keen on Crewe skipper 12:30 May, 22, 2006 Kenny Lunt is a target for an increasing number of clubs as he decides on his next move Mail The FansFC Editor Send This Article To A Friend Post Your View on The Msg Board The 26-year-old midfielder is out of contract at Crewe Alexandra this summer after giving sterling service to the Gresty Road club. Manager Dario Gradi has not given up hope of keeping Lunt at the club despite relegation to League One. He admitted to his club's official website however: "If Glenn Hoddle is telling Kenny that he wants him to play in central midfield in his first team next season at Wolves, then I have to turn around to him and advise Kenny that that is the best move for his career."
Gené and Tonic Posted 22 May 2006 Posted 22 May 2006 We wouldn't be able to compete with Wolves I don't think. He'd choose Hoddle over Kelly, plus they finished higher this season.
The Stig Posted 22 May 2006 Author Posted 22 May 2006 Adam Green and Aki Riihilahti will sign for Leicester after extensive talks with manager. Also the foxes are after fulham keeper Tony Warner on loan or permanent. From www.football-rumours.co.uk
Gené and Tonic Posted 22 May 2006 Posted 22 May 2006 Most probably untrue but I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Also the foxes are after fulham keeper Tony Warner on loan or permanent. From www.football-rumours.co.uk The first part of that is possibly believable. The second part... I don't think so. Unless we ship out one of our two main keepers, we won't be signing another.

Tarzan Posted 22 May 2006 Posted 22 May 2006 hopefully, our goalies are really poor. Paul Hendersons ok. he had a good run in late on last season. Douglas though is a pile of poo
