Swedging Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 I'm sorry but some people reactions to this news of a possible rebuff is ridiculous. How can you slag the board off when we don't know what he actually did offer? Quite so. I started to get worried yesterday with the phrase, "fair and generous" which always sounded like it probably wasn't. Then it seems that Mandaric has put in place agreements to maintain confidentiality over the bid - which sounds like £25 million available is some way off the mark and that there would be some, er, strings attached. And then this source is suggesting a lack of assurances over the future of the club and perhaps some shenanigans with the stadium deal. So far it looks pretty rotten.
Master Fox Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 ****ERS There always has to be one. I just don't understand when the main shareholders gave their backing for the Mandaric takeover?
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 Hear that? It's the sound of thousands of Leicester fans being brought back down to earth...
Swedging Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 There always has to be one. I just don't understand when the main shareholders gave their backing for the Mandaric takeover? Really? When was that?
Babylon Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 There always has to be one. I just don't understand when the main shareholders gave their backing for the Mandaric takeover? What are you talking about? Not one shareholder has given their backing. If you mean Gary Lineker his comment was "i'm in favour of mandaric, if the offer is right". The last part being the most important. Once again, how can any of you slag off the board or moan when you know nothing about the deal?
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 hmmmm. Well it is only one article in one newspaper, it's hardly deal over is it. Not exactly what I wanted to see first thing in the morning though. And if Manadaric is going to start taking the piss from Day one maybe it would be better if he didn't buy us.
Master Fox Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 Well Lineker and Holmes were both quoted in saying that they backed the Mandaric’s bid.

Mort Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 It could all simply be gamesmanship... in the end this take-over deal, will, as with all such deals, be hammered out at the Walkers over a late night curry in the early hours of the morning and for the time being it suites the board to try and get some assurances from Milan about the stadium, academy etc... ...however it should not be forgotten than unlike ManU or Villa we're not in a position to play hard ball or potentially piss off an investor as such groups have hardly been beating the door down, and without investment the club will be going nowhere fast and such investment would be set back years if we managed to scare off folks like Milan now by trying to punch above our weight. And, of course, it's only a gossip story in the guardian... when was the last time the guardian was good for anything bar bog-roll? (leftwing views are oddly absorbant ).
Phlashman Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 Of course being a PLC it could be anyone really, even someone from "the other" bids.
London_Fox Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 Should we really be so surprised that the first bid isn't perfect? I doubt it ever happens that the first bid comes in and everyone is happy with it. This takes time, hopefully though the presence of others bids will push up the bid faster and help come to an agreement earlier then it others might have done.

The current shareholders initial intentions were not to make a return on their stake.
Ric Flair Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 The board surely can't be diggng their heels in for no reason because they'll piss 30,000 fans off and potentially leave this club in the shit and they won't get ANY of their stake back. I am keen to see how this un-folds, it would be just our luck to balls this up. The club have even said themselves they've taken us as far as they can with the current set up.
Janx Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 Was everyone expecting Mandy to arrive at the Walkers with a big sack of cash, saying to the receptionnist, Hello love, Im here to buy the club, do you know how much they want for it... Hang on, I will ask the boss. Mr Pies, there is a Mr Mandy in reception, he wants to know how much you want for the club.... Hmm tell him we want 26M and he can keep the carpets and curtains. Erm Mr Mandy, he says you can keep the carpets and curtains for 26M... Right miduck, it'll take me a few minutes to count this lot out, put the kettle on. minutes later, the sound of cheering and a fleet of mercedes and a pukka pie van screeching of tyres to the feint muted singing of "we're in the money", and "theres one born every minute" NOW thats what I thought would have happened.... Im right pi553d off now!

The club have even said themselves they've taken us as far as they can with the current set up. ...which leads me to think this is just some tw*t, probably not with the consent of the rest of the board or a significant number of shareholders, most seem to be willing to hear Milan out... and if these other bids exist then they'll have to become apparent soon... if nothing's in by the end of the week then Milan's offer will have to be accepted, there really is little in the way of alternatives beyond the short term and the board and shareholders must see this.
Babylon Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 I’m only quoting what I read yesterday, anyway when have I slagged off the board? The current shareholders initial intentions were not to make a return on their stake. I never said you personally... it was meant for those who have. That said your posts didn't exactly come across as though you were thrilled. The article says they won't even get back what they put in. It doesn't say they want to make money.
davieG Posted 2 November 2006 Author Posted 2 November 2006 I would imagine that the club anticipated that we had reached this point in our progress out of admin and back into the real world of finance and that is why they appointed Andrew Taylor as a paid Chairman. We are now in a position where we probably have regained some credit rating, are debt free, not withstanding our rental of the stadium and therefore have been primed by the current board for a takeover. The board, and I've been a big critic may well have got items of detail, such as ticketing and the refreshment franchise wrong but they were hardly in a position to be choosy. It seems to me, and this is conjecture but no different to all the other stuff flying around that they have done a good job so far in making us attractive to potential bidders so let's give them the benefit of doubt on this and not jump to conclusions. I'm unaware of any takeover bid where the first offer was accepted even by businesses going down the pan which we're not, I believe we're in a strong position from which to put in some hard nosed negotiating, cue Andrew Taylor for a better deal no matter who it's from.

I'd have thought more likely with the consent of a number of the shareholders. They will be talking to each other a lot. And 'infuential shareholder' probably either means a board member or someone of Lineker's stature. And if the deal is rubbish, and it looks like placing the club in further jeopardy, then the board should reject it.

Katy Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 I think we should all try and relax a bit and wait for something official. Nah fock it, lets carry on!
Thracian Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 The board surely can't be diggng their heels in for no reason because they'll piss 30,000 fans off and potentially leave this club in the shit and they won't get ANY of their stake back. I am keen to see how this un-folds, it would be just our luck to balls this up. The club have even said themselves they've taken us as far as they can with the current set up. If that's the case and I don't dispute it, then it's time to get some board members who don't feel so negative and some investment from people who identify with and genuinely care for the club. I cannot see why such people would be reluctant anyway. There's a bloody gold mine to be tapped. And the fact that MM's so keen should be the greatest evidence of that fact.
Janx Posted 2 November 2006 Posted 2 November 2006 Now that's my kind of humour Mandy say's to tell them they can stuff the carpets as he want's some new ones with his face on them. I'm here all week..... month......life(sentence)

Or it could be the board leaking it because thery know they have other equally good bids on the table and are trying to up the ante - frankly we just don't know it's all conjecture and rumour just what you'd expect from hardnosed businessmen carrying hardnosed business. This is all part of the roller coaster everyone was so keen on, it's well documented that MM plays the media game, perhaps we are giving him some of his own medicine. Sit back and enjoy the ride, if MM takes over it will be like this every week - get used to it.
