Thank for this. Being a bit of a WW1 buff as well as Led Zep fan I was intrigued when they used a famous photo of the German Jasta 11 pilots for Led Zep 2 album cover and superimposed the band. Most of the real pilots did not survive the war.

Just watched the movie "Trap" and I'm fully convinced that at some point recently, M night Shyamalan has had a stroke and no-one has noticed.

Comically bad.

I actually think I love it for how bad it was.

Did a double bill at the cinema on Sunday.

Warfare and Sinners.

Went in completely blind, only knowing a handful of things about the actual plots, but I’m a fan of both directors output so trusted that I’d be in safe hands.

I was not wrong.

Warfare (Alex Garland - Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men, Civil War) was an intense examination of a group of US soldiers under siege in a house in Iraq during the war in 2006. Co-written and co-directed by Ray Mendoza, who was one of the actual soldiers in the true story. The film isn’t overtly political and doesn’t have much to do with why the soldiers are in Iraq or the US government, but the plot was directly allegorical to the war from start to finish and was edge-of-your-seat tense from start to finish.

Sinners (Ryan Coogler - Fruitvale Street, Creed, Black Panther 1 & 2). To say ANYTHING about this would give a hell of a lot away so I’ll be careful... Set in 1930s Mississippi, twin crooks (both played by Michael B Jordan) return to their hometown after years away, reconnect with family and their community as they set up an African-American-only “ juke joint”, recruiting blues musicians (including their cousin Sammie) to perform at the opening night.

And I have to stop there. What happened next was unexpected, transcendent, hilarious, heartbreaking and utterly unique. It had SO MUCH to say about music and culture, race and racism, poverty, community, REDACTED, and life itself. Brilliant performances from everyone, particularly Wunmi Mosako, Michael B Jordan, Miles Caton (his first acting role), Jack O’Connell (who drops into his SAS: Rogue Heroes at times), and ESPECIALLY Delroy Lindo.

It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, especially some of the wild twists and turns, but I LOVED every second of it. An absolutely exhilarating cinematic experience.

Dara of Jasenovac. A young girl Dara is ent to a Croat concentration camp controlled by the horribly savage NDH, known as the Balkans Auschwitz. A beautifully acted movie showing the utter horrors that happened there. Probably the most hard hitting movie of its kind I’ve ever seen.

M:I 8. Pretty decent although I'd prob put it 5th best in the series. The 4 above it are a really high bar though. Needed trimming down some length wise and Cruises escape from the otherwise brilliant submarine section was so ridiculous that it broke my suspension of disbelief, but overall the film was solid and I imagine will probably be the best blockbuster of the summer.

How bad was Gladiator II!

I know I might be a tad behind with this.

Gladiator 2. Apart from the domesticated rhinos, sharks and alien baboons I thought it was pretty good.

Agreed!

Just watched a movie called 'Not Without My Daughter' from 1991 starring Sally Field... who you may remember from Mrs Doubfire. But this never heard of it... just seen a few clips on youtube looked quite interesting thought I'd give it a watch. It's a true story about a woman who gets tricked by her Iranian husband to go to Iran with their daughter for what she is thinking is just a short holiday only to then realise in fact he's took the decision to move the family to Iran. Very quickly she finds herself trapped and forced to live the Iranian lifestyle whilst being treating terribly by her now abusive husband whose holding her and there daughter against their will. Very intense story and very underrated performance by Sally Field. Interesting critics panned this on release and bombed at the box office, shame as this is a good movie. 9/10! honestly I was pleasantly surprised.

I first became aware of what a fine actor Sally Field is when watching Sybil from 1976

Found this old movie on YouTube, some superb acting in this, especially by Mills and Guiness.

Great film. Apparently the two lead actors swapped roles
