XFS Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 Just thought I would move this to its own topic for discussion during the loan spell. Its a big test for him to prove a few things in league football. Quite a bit of stuff on the rochdale website. Keith Hill's Rochdale AFC made another signing today in the shape of Leicester City FC's Louis Dodds. The former England Under 18 international has joined us on a month long loan deal. Dodds had experienced similar success to that of Chris Dagnall as a Reserve at Tranmere, scoring an impressive total of 65 goals in the previous three season. Dodds was also unsurprisingly voted the Academy Player of the Year last season. Dodds has enjoyed a loan spell at Northwich Victoria already this season and was signed after 'consultation' with Gareth Griffiths. Dodds made six appearances for Victoria scoring three goals and is yet to feature for Leicester City's first team.

Louis, just score a few! And here's the BBC Sports link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...ale/6378875.stm
Head Honcho Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 He's obviously lacking in some area of his game for us to send him out on loan again, but I can't help thinking he'd be better served coming on for the last 10-15 minutes for us in some of our matches, last saturday would have been ideal. I hope he gets his chance here at some stage this season.

To publically claim he's the best finisher at the club has made it seem very odd that he's never been given a chance this season, even just the odd sub appearance. His finishing is exceptional, the only thing that he lacks is pace and possibly strength. But he has a quick footballing brain that makes up for his lack of pace. He isn't that slow anyway, no slower than Fryatt. I hope he goes out and bags a few and then stays there until the rest of the season. I think Dodds has missed the boat at Leicester though, as Mandaric will supply our manager will enough funds to make sure we're well covered in all positions. Leaving it very hard for youngsters to break through here.

I think he's got a good oppurtunity at Rochdale to show he's worth something to this club but I do still tend to agree, I still doubt he'll make a first team apperance for us. It would take one hell of a month (enough to get his loan extended for a start) for RK to stop and think about his future at the club, and maybe re asses his role. He has a total lack of match practise and he has no experince in the football league what so ever. It will be very tough To be honest even if he does, if I were Louis Dodds I'd be considering leaving Leicester City no matter what.

At best, he'll get another 1-2 years contract, but no guarantee of any first team football for us next season. No dis-respect to Dodds, but next season I think the likes of Fryatt and definitely Hammond and Cadamarteri will struggle to get a game for us, all because it's a new era for us with more resources to get better players. It's a shame Kelly didn't see what Dodds could do before this came about, but that's life. I hope he goes to a League One/Two club and builds his career from there.
Geo V Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 About bloomin time. We havent got an active reserve team and its crazy to think that we could have decent kids on the books that we will never see how good they are due to not loaning them out or not having a regular reserve team. I dont agree with slinging the likes of Dodds straight into the first team but the very worst case scenrios should be loans in league or out of league. We are leaving it a little late with Dodds though which is a shame. I hope he impresses and progresses whilst on loan and gets a new contract with us if good enough.
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 I hope he's actually going up there this time and training with Rochdale, not this half hearted pissing about training with us and driving up for each game approach that was adopted during his time at Northwich.
lookwhaticando Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 He's out of contract in the summer, he could just walk. I'm seriously doubting whether we'll give him a contract or not... we only just shipped O'Grady out despite us "wanting to keep our youngsters" etc. Well that depends on whether Rob was being nice or being honest.

Rochdale are full-time, where as Northwitch weren't, so i'd hope he'd be up there training every day.

We had a good look at COG in the first team and he hardly impressed. Infact most seemed happy when he was punted out. What I dont want to see happen is that a club like us who have been in desperate need for money over the years end up releasing someone like Dodds who hasnt been given the chance and he ends up being a world beater! If we release players who are out of contract or sell them, we must be 100% sure that they havent shown enough in training, reserves, first team and loan and thats why they are getting booted out.
Simi Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 Good luck to him. Hopefully he can prove Thracians opinion that he is a great goal scorer. If Kelly has sent him on loan then maybe he is debating playing him at some point in the future,

Master Fox Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 It's looking more likely now that Dodds has no future with LCFC. He's not up to it
Flexx Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 It's looking more likely now that Dodds has no future with LCFC. He's not up to it Just another Tommy Wright IMO
Master Fox Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 Just another Tommy Wright IMO Yep. Pretty much
treacle Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 It's looking more likely now that Dodds has no future with LCFC. He's not up to it Well hes not even been given the chance
Geo V Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 Well hes not even been given the chance The only thing that you would have to say is that some youngsters have come through and not made it so if he was really impressing, maybe he would have been given a chance, especially when we went through a stage where we didnt have that many strikers and RK was trying all sorts of options at one stage. He even hired some impersonator with a whitejump suit called Elvis and played him. Everybody was kung fu fighting. Hiiiiiiiiijaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
potter3 Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 Just another Tommy Wright IMO Did you actually link that IMO to that topic? Or does it somehow do it automatically? Edit: You obviously did
JoeyB Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 i think its what he needs if he scores a few goals for them he will have more of a chance of getting into the city team all i can say is: good luck Louis
lookwhaticando Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 i think its what he needs if he scores a few goals for them he will have more of a chance of getting into the city team all i can say is: good luck Louis Tall order. The loan lasts until March 20th... our season ends (assuming we don't make the play-offs) on May 6th. If we have nothing to play for in the last few weeks, he might be in with a shout... if we're actually pushing for the play-offs (still an outside possibility) he won't get a sniff. Either way... he'll have six weeks at most to make a first team appearance, make an impact and continue to feature. I'm sceptical as to whether he'll even appear for the first team at all this season. RK had the chance to deploy him earlier in the season in the League Cup... he didn't take it. Will a loan period in League Two changes his mind? Particularly when you consider we're quite well staffed up front at the minute and with rumours that we're going to add another striker, perhaps... RK should have played him in the League Cup - perfect opportunity to see him in action with the first team, even if for just 10-15 minutes. He didn't take it... doesn't bode well, in my opinion.
l444ry Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 First a spell at Northwich and now a spell at Rochdale!!! Of course we all hope he does well and develops into a better player but lets have no more of that "Kelly should give him his chance here" bullshit. He's nowhere near the standard yet and this demonstates it even more starkly.
