Chest pains

Ive recently been having chest pains in the centre of my chest, slightly to the left. They are sharp and happen when i breathe in / out deeply. Theyre not constant but come and go. I have had these pains most of my life, but normally only like once in a month or a few months and not notablly frequent.

I have now had these pains for around 2 weeks and i have a spell of them every day. They occur when i breathe in / out like i said, or when i bend down or move the top half of my body, but not constant.

I daren't go get it checked out as if its something wrong with me ticker, id be too scared for any kind of surgery on it  Im getting quite worried though and i wondered if anyone else on here has had anything like this?

Im hoping its just a pulled muscle... but my cousin has a dodgy heart, a hole in it to be precise, not sure what the medical term is.. this leads me to believe i may have a problem

Ive talked to my brother about thios before and he says he has it time to time so hopefully its common..

Any help appreciated please :thumbup::cry:

Go and buy some Windezze from the chemist. Trapped wind is a killer.

Go and see the doctor, Surgury is way down the line in terms of any treatment for anything, some simple painless checks will establish if your problem is cardiac related, even if it is more likely the treatment will involve medication rather than the knife. Health is your biggest asset, if your car was misfiring you would get it checked out.

I am not a Doctor, but I was a Nurse.

I actually get these pains on occasion too. But not constantly!! Only every once in a while.

Go see the doc mate. If there is something wrong and you dont get it looked at you could be in the shits.

Finally some sensible advice!

I suffered from heart palpitations (and still do to a lesser extent) with occasional chest pains as well. After years of keeping it to myself and worrying I finally went to see a GP about it. He referred me for a full cardiologcal review including ECG scan, x-ray, stress test (on a running machine), blood test, etc.

I was fine, it's just something I have to live with and since I got that piece of mind the palpitations and pains have eased loads.

Go and see a doctor. I'm sure you'll be fine but you won't know (and you'll continue to worry) until you do.

P.S. It should however offer some immediate comfort knowing that a surprising amount of people on here say they also get pains.

Just to pick up what Manwell said... Hmmm "just blood clots", did you know PE's (Pulmonary embolism) is the second biggest killer in American hospitals!!! I do scans for them, and people who have them are very ill and in serious pain!

But as I work in a hospital I'm prone to over exaggerating ever pain/bruise I get (a liitle knowledge is a dangerous thing and all!!) in my own head.

Seriously if worried, see your GP, STOP BEING SUCH A BLOKE!!!!! If you're lucky and live in Leicester you might even see me for a scan! :thumb up:

Oh and James the Blue... it's not an ECG 'scan', just and ECG (EchoCardioGram) no scan involved....

I get them, I think they're blood clots. Could be wrong. Nothing to worry about as long as they aren't happening to often.

I like being blunt and straight to the point so....

If your worried about them get them checked out, because if their is something wrong with your heart and you don't have the nessacery surgery....well you'll die. Which is alot more unpleasent than surgery (apparently)

My grandma died of a blood clot a few years back.

I can't believe I'm reading this............but on the basis that this isn't a wind up, you must go and see your doctor. Having once spent two days in intensive care with a suspected heart attack I have some experience in this subject.............It's probably indigestion but finding out will not only alleviate the worry but fix the problem; knowledge is power.

My grandma died of a blood clot a few years back.

Obviously big clots in older people kill, but blood clots all the time, doesn't it.

Not internally no... it's really dangerous. Only has to hit your heart, lungs or brain and you're buggered!! That's why DVT's kill, the clot moves to the heart or brain...

This is why you should always wear flight socks and have half an aspirin before long haul flights!!

Unless you are allergic to aspirin. Analgesia of the Devil.

Shall remember that.

You've saved my life Phube.

Thanks for all your help, not actually had any pains since i made this, the next time i get any pains ill go to the doctors

It wasnt constant pain, but it was more frequent when I'd move my top half (like when picking something up off of the floor at work)

I didnt post this in hope there where doctors on here, but as i said, id talked about this before to my brother because id have a sharp pain once every couple of months, so nothing worrying and i just wanted to know if it was common or if anyone else had anything similar.

Chewing (yes, I meant to say chewing) half an aspirin is effective if someone is having a suspected heart attack I think as well.

However, that would not be very helpful for people experiencing heartburn and/or suffering from stomach ulcers!

I am feeling chest pains... more like pain in my lungs perhaps at the moment.

I am also running a bit of a temperature so my guess is...

Flu and possibly chest infection?

Nice

Dr Wils busy at the moment so I thought I'd ask for a few more details in the meantime...

Where is it sore exactly?

Is it more towards the outside edge of your calf, just below the knee?

Or just behind your knee, in the middle? (And if so, is it a bit swollen there)

Although if bird flu hits, it'll be people like Cisono who'll die!!

The same happened with the great 1919 flu. It killed mainly 18-30 year olds... because it was the bodies over reaction to the virus that killed them. Those with a weak immune system (very young/vey old) escaped as their immune system wasn't strong enough to kill them, hence they just got slighty ill!!

Think on that!!! :(:unsure::mellow:
