I believe Handscomb will be back for the next Championship games, Hundred will only affect the One Day Cup.

Green is the worry- replace him with Mike and we lose a lot of control/pressure, bringing Wright back in weakens the batting depth.

Hopefully we try and resign him later in the summer.

I believe that Ian Holland is going to be playing in the US Major League competition which runs from 12th June to 6th July (or 13th July if his team progresses into the finals) . That rules him out of the next two rounds of the County Championship and most of the Blast.

I think the good news is that Masood should really strengthen our batting up top.

Only really Patel hasn't been reliable so far, averaging just 20 but you'd back him to come good I think. Budinger is averaging 37 though only has 2 50s and that match defining ton feels just out of reach. Ahmed averages less, 35, but does have 2 tons to his name. The potential in this 3 is huge but equally it doesn't feel the most reliable!

Handscomb and Hill have been our engine and Cox, Holland, Van Beek and Green consistently chipping in with Scrivo and Mike contributing as well. So really the boom or bust top 3 feels like it's an acceptable risk and it's worked so far.

For T20 I can see the below:

Masood

Patel

Ahmed

Kimber (C)

Budinger

Cox (wk)

Trevaskis

Mike

Van Beek

Scriven

Hull

My understanding is that Holland will be in the US (not sure how much he will miss), Handcomb will rest and given Hill didn't play last year not sure he will this season (was he injured?).

4 pace + 2 spin and bats deep.

Ahmed played some franchise stuff in the winter at 3 so can see the same here. I like the idea Budinger a bit further down, he has power and it will be useful down there and he's not done well opening in t20 whereas Patel very much has and Masood should be steady with all the hitters around him. Even Mike at 8 has rope clearing power.

If we're missing Ahmed and Hull as well though then things don't look as strong, you've got Hill or Swindells in to the batting and the second spin option falling to Kimber probably. And either Walker (who to be fair doesn't seem a mug in this format) or one of the other young lads in for Hull but depth could be tested. A canny loan signing could be useful, Goldsworthy would be nice but not sure on his availability.

Big losses and huge debts but if the team is winning on the pitch everybody is happy. Remind you of a certain football team who had wages at 90% of turnover?

Im not excusing the debt but weren't we hammering money when we were properly shit too.

Mike is still injured. Will be interesting to see if he features for twos this week .

I think Sam Wood will come into contention. He got wickets and runs for the seconds last week

The difference is that there’s a stream of income coming in over the next few months which should help us to clear those debts.

Yes but not at the same level the likes of Cox Holland Patel probably earn more then double what the likes of Tom Wells Gavin Griffiths Will Davis etc were getting

I’m not sure that income is supposed to clear debt - and even if debt is cleared you are still left with a wage bill that is too high as Leicester City have been.

Do we have a smaller squad now though, seemed like we had a huge squad for years, predominantly full of crap

Great to hear that we have agreed a loan extension with Somerset to allow Green to return for a further two County Championship matches, covering our home clashes with Glamorgan and Middlesex in June.

Great news (particularly if Holland is absent for those matches)

Yes. Deliberate plan by Alfonso/Titch to rely on the loan scheme rather than a larger squad. Seems to be working!

The Glamorgan match in particular is a pivotal one, so that is very good news indeed.

Even money with the firms now to win the league. Hadn’t really thought about things from a betting angle before today and was interested to see how they bet. I rather be a player than a layer at that price.

What’s happening with Holland? Playing for the USA?

Chris Wright will more than make up for that

Massively so, around 9-fold potentially.

Last season in Division 1, the top three picked up £600k (Surrey), £300k and £200k respectively. I can't find any other recent figures covering both divisions aside from 2022's -

County Championship - total prize-money: £1.5million

Winners £580,000

Runners-up £290,000

Third £145,000

The two relegated teams don’t get any prize-money

Div 2 Champions and runners-up get £65k and £58k respectively.

I do like listening to the journalists from the cricketer. Cut above the others, bar Atherton who is also generally decent.

Of the ex pro’s, I think Mark Butcher is the best in terms of promoting the county game. Very knowledgeable and loves us.

Just looking at us man for man v Derbyshire’s squad and I think we may struggle. We’re going to be very reliant on the likes of Patel, Masood and Kimber to get the runs which doesn’t strike me with confidence. Bowling will be strong though.
