Really poor with the white ball all summer really. Still, we've been brilliant with the red ball and that's all that matters this year in my eyes.

I think we should be blooding far more youngsters in the 50 over trophy. Playing 2 overseas players and still losing 5 out of 8 games (which seems likely after today's first innings) is both expensive and pointless. The youngsters could hardly have done worse. In fact, one of them has been the best bowler in the competition by a distance.

I agree to an extent, but I suppose you don't want to throw the kids in at the deep end if they aren't up to it yet. Alex Green was probably ready for a run in the side.

I haven't been keeping tabs on the seconds much, but it doesn't sound like we have any young batsmen really knocking on the door currently?

What remaining games? He certainly won’t force his way into the CC side.

Have we played all the ODC games now? I haven’t followed that closely this season

I guess most of us would have accepted 7th place finishes in the white ball competitions in exchange for promotion in the four day game. But we've been fairly poor across the board since the end of June, culminating in today's dismal result, and that's a concern.

Hopefully today is the last time we see Salisbury and Walker in Leicestershire shirts. More sadly, Wright’s race is also run. Green and Davey are good additions but it would have been good to see another left arm pacer brought in, as when Hull is not available (pretty often) our attack does look very samey.

We’ve not been bad in the red ball games since June. We had the horror show v Middlesex but aside from that it’s been good enough.

I think we severely lack squad depth which is not surprising for a club of our size. We’ve stacked our Red ball squad with quality all rounders but we’ve just lacked that star power in the white ball. I can’t see any counties that have competed well across all three formats this season?

Patel’s dreadful season has also been a massive issue batting wise when you consider how good his white ball batting had been the past two seasons.

Really poor effort in the one day comp and T20, just not consistent enough in any aspect of the game.
Coaches should be doing a lot better with the players we have (particularly in the 50over) and stop being so muddled in the T20

However promotion in the championship will mean a successful season.

Warwickshire have been pretty good across all 3 formats

For when exactly?

The article says that we're keen on him as an overseas player for 2026, because South Africa don't have many international commitments next year, so there will be quite a few South Africans in the county game.

He’d be a fantastic addition.

Typical us. Sign someone way past their best. Would rather give youth a chance.

Maharaj would be a good signing if we were playing on dust bowls but not even Murali would be much use on April English wickets. There are plenty in that South African top order who we should be looking at instead.

Harmer has been doing it for years

Interesting stat...

Always a bit muddied, these sort of figures as some boys start off in state and get scholarships to private - I may be wrong, but think Joe Root is an example of this. It can also be skewed by counties having private schools in their vicinity that have a long history of churning out professional sportsmen, such as Millfield in Somerset.

Correct. It's far from a perfect metric. The way things are now it's so rare fior any pro cricketer, whatever their background, not to have at least got on a private school scholarship at some point.

Not a good look for us that we played so poorly whilst having the lowest number of players under 25 in the tournament.

Hull and Ahmed missing doesn't help that stat but it's still disappointing.
