Handscomb not officially signed for next season unless I've missed something although I do expect him to return. Salisbury got 1 year left on contract so expect  him to be here next year don't think any other County would sign him even though he's  an OK bowler .

Signed a two year deal at the end of last season didn't he

Just looked it up yes Handcomb  did sign a 2 year contract in 2023 which makes it more confusing what Claude has said

Constantly calls Trevaskis Trescothick also touch of the Bidens I think

Switched off a bit from following as soon as Handscomb left as just knew what was going to happen as normal.

That and the way some of the younger players have been treated this year who won us the one day cup last year and had very little to no opportunity since has left a sour taste for me.

Why we are batting Holland and Ahmed at 3 and 5 is beyond me. Wouldn't bat higher than 7 or 8 anywhere else. Perfectly good in those positions but not in the top 5.

I mean we are going into each match with 3 specialist batsmen. One of those averages 19 and the other 2 are out of form.

Middle order is ok as is the tale but we seem to have alot of players that are neither good enough as bowlers or batters.

Ahmed’s batting position is by request of the ECB for this season.

ECB have done wonders for him. Hopefully turns it round in Pakistan.

Currently looks completely out of sorts

Don't like to be overly critical of anyone but he seems to be going backwards at a rate of knotts.

Another innings defeat incoming!

Yep. Won one game the entire season.

Not a bad white ball side. Red ball different story.

Doesn’t really feel like we’re even trying very hard. I was tempted to buy a membership out of loyalty, as I rarely go to Grace Road (even though I’m a regular down the road), but why bother if the players don’t seem bothered. Three batters out stumped is just mindless

Getting battered by a team who had more application than we did, guys who average mid 20s grafted and got a score on the board. That's the difference.

He still averages 30 with the bat which is not bad for someone who has just turned 20. Only Rishi and just about Hill average above him in the current XL  He just needs more games and time and in all honesty playing in a side that had more players performing would take the pressure off him a bit. A 20 year old shouldn't have to be a match winner with bat and ball.

Agreed and he is a kid im not getting on at him but he Should be able to judge a situation though, he has talent and at 6 or 7 is a very good player.

Don't expect him or anyone else to be a match winner at County, odd game we do win we do collectively.

I'm not having a go at him as an individual just endemic of a careless attitude to batting that we see each week. I like the lad and he will be a decent player I hope.

Kimbers lap sweep at the end of the innings sort of sums that  lazy careless attitude to batting that many of players show.  9 and 10 bat for nearly two hours I know he is injured but he misses that lap sweep by six inches and we are all out. Feel sorry for the likes of wood and curry who work hard at what they have.

Alot of our players are really not that good so work harder.

Agree that was very poor from Kimber. At least go out there and try to hang around, even if you're injured. If I was Wood or Currie I would be furious that my efforts to at least make a game of it were thrown away like this.

So ultimately after some early season hope we're going to finish in the bottom two as per usual?

I'll say it again... zero jeapordy makes a mockery of these last 3 games.

I know the minor counties thing always gets laughed at when I mention it, but why not just auto promote one county for next season and expand Div 2, if a 'traditional' one finishes bottom next year, they're GONE.

The minor counties (or National Counties as they are now known) do not have first class status nor a full time playing staff. They are not equipped with facilities, staff or finances to play 14 four day games in a season. The players mostly have full time proper jobs! There have been successful applications from Minor Counties to be given first class status, notably Durham who did so in 1992.

Certainly not saying it happens immediately.

But if you dangle that carrot and say 'we're doing this in two years' it gives capable national counties the chance to at least try and get set up for it.

I can guarantee you if Buckinghamshire got promoted for example, they'd have plenty of people interested in sponsoring them and I bet they'd pretty quickly be able to fill out their team with out of contract Div2 players and good Second XI players/loans

He's a strange character all round. One incredible, record breaking innings and then very little else. Was that a lucky one off or does he not apply himself enough to develop his talent?

Don't think he applies himself. But I dint know the guy so can't say that with any certainty.

Another weird thing is he always strolls out like he is KP or Viv Richards or already has a ton in the bank.

Will often then play two or three brilliant shots then try the same shot to the wrong ball. Or completely misjudge a shot like a rank amateur. But that won't deter him as he will follow exactly the same process next time.

Why after watching 9 and 10 bat all afternoon would you play a lap sweep? Then to miss it by best part of a foot?

It's really weird. But what a talent.

Don't think there is enough money in the game tbh

Not convinced there is enough money to sustain the counties we already have. Plus many of those guys probably have decent jobs and minor county cricket sort of fits in with their careers.

Could may be get a few involved in one day games or t20s
