Just read from somebody in the Know that it's very likely that the Championship will be cut from 14 to 12 next season and the first division will be just 7 sides so teams play everyone home and away,Be interesting to see if this effects Leicestershire

ECB hammering yet another nail into the coffin.

No doubt it will be 1 up, 2 down and we'll finish second. Inevitable.

Surely they can't do that after the competition has begun?

I think they may have legal challenges

I’ll be rioting outside of Lords if we win the league then they abolish promotion

I was thinking the same... surely all permutations set out in advance, must be the following season if they do go ahead.

Good time to get promoted then potentially.

They will absolutely hate that at the ECB

Problem is its the Counties who are having the vote on reducing fixtures and we are one of the Counties voting for less games

The cost of staging 4 day games must be eye watering. So I went to Lords on Friday and Saturday. Beautiful weather on both days. A good competitive game of cricket. There were about 2,000 in the ground on both days. A one off ticket is £20. It's the most famous cricket arena in the world. A population of 20 million is within an hour of the ground, but just 2,000 people attend (most of whom will be members of either MCC or Middlesex).

You cannot really blame any Club for wanting to stage fewer of these loss making events. County get about 300 to 500 through the gate for a day of County Cricket. So 10 days of County Cricket, or one evening of Blast cricket, when you might get 3,000 down at Grace Road.

Think it's more around 200 to 300 these days and a good few of those are life members

I went and we sat in 5 parts of the ground which you wouldn't be able to do at a test match. Amazing value for money and totally under-marketed.

I went on the Saturday - great view from the Upper Edrich stand almost behind the bowler's arm and best of all, you're allowed to sling a nice bottle of red in your bag to slake your thirst on a hot day. You might have expected a few more for 3rd versus 1st given the great weather, perhaps the FA Cup final on that afternoon stopped a few from going?

Think we are going to be champions.

Only three teams won more than 4 games in Div 2 and 2 went up, Sussex won 8.

We are the top scoring batting and bowling sides, and they've now dogged out a couple of wins that were a real battle.  That team has grit and spirit that the city could do with.

They know how to win and how not to lose.

I went on Friday and a few of those I spoke to had been given free tickets through their work. At least three schools in there too.

Can't imagine Green will be playing Friday with the T20 starting the following week

Yeah think our best bet is to get him back the other side of the white ball stuff for the run in.

Need to target Blast attendances. Somerset sell out 8.5k seats for every game or near enough and their catchment area is small.

Somerset have the whole of the West Country to aim at and are the best supported sports club in their county.

I agree we need far more through the gate but it's not really a fair comparison.

Perhaps, but it's a huge geographical area with abysmal transport links and Bristol on it's front door and Exeter at it's back door, both far better connected than Taunton and with well supported rugby teams as well as football clubs.

If Somerset can sell out a T20 then we should be aiming to do the same in the future.

Not being shite is the starting point to growing some interest and we seem well on the way to that.
