Lineker's Left Foot Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 Think he would still have something to offer a championship club but I don't think his heart would be in it. I don't want people at the club who don't want to be here. Problem is, I think we need to go for players who are experienced, but still motivated enough to do some sort of job for us - in a similar vein to Pompey using Stone, Sherwood, Merson and Festa to get them promoted a few years back. Maybe, somebody like Sinclair and also now Robbie Fowler could be those players coming here; although I am wary of decent players who aren't motivated enough coming here for an easy ride - remember that **** Dennis W*se anyone??
Geo V Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 Robbie Fowler I still think he`ll end up in America. He has nothing to prove in England and the fact that he went back to Liverpool in the first place was a sign that he isnt bothered about playing but more interested in playing a bit part role. The only thing that would maybe keep him in this country is his business interests like the 1000 homes he owns but Im sure he has a good management team looking after his business affairs.
dandannieldanok Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 Tony Capaldi has spoken of a desire to move to the Midlands having rejected a new contract at Plymouth. The Northern Ireland international was offered fresh terms at Home Park after an impressive Championship campaign but he is eager to move closer to his family. Premiership new boys Sunderland are thought to be keeping an eye on Capaldi's situation but with Wolves also interested, it could well be the play-offs hopefuls that win the race for his signature given his geographical preferences. The 25-year-old defender has impressed in the past few years, both with Plymouth and on the international stage, but it remains to be seen where he pitches up for next season. "I'm talking to a few clubs," Capaldi revealed in the Sun. "Moving closer to my family in Birmingham would be nice." Do we have any chance? Would be a great signing for us.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 I saw an article this morning saying the four clubs were definitely Sunderland, Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich. We should certainly be keeping tabs on him.
Geo V Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 From what I have seen of him he has a cultured left-foot but isnt much of a defender! Still he is good at set-pieces and may well have improved defensively so onec again, as a freebie, would be a step in teh right direction surely?!
Brainy Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 I wouldn't call him a great signing But on a free, why not?
Jay Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 I still think he's the player Levein thought he had snapped up for a bargain fee when he signed Peter Gilbert, Infact I'm positive that's the case would explain alot imo
Brainy Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 Bluebirds exit saddens Alexander Neil Alexander says there is 'quite a bit of interest' in signing him Cardiff City's discarded goalkeeper Neil Alexander says he is saddened by how negotiations went sour over a new contract to stay at Ninian Park. "We always knew that if Cardiff didn't come back with the contract that we agreed in January then we wouldn't be signing," said the Scotland stopper. Cardiff would not offer improved terms and eventually withdrew any contract. "I've got used to the fact now that I'm leaving, but I would have loved to have stayed," he told BBC Sport Wales. "It's part and parcel of football, but it's going to be a sad day when I drive away from Cardiff for the last time. "We couldn't agree a new contract, which was unfortunate, but I'll not be leaving with any grudges." Sometimes it's not always about the manager, sometimes it's all about the players Neil Alexander Alexander was brought to Cardiff in May 2001 from Scottish side Livingston for £200,000 by then Bluebirds boss Alan Cork. The 28-year-old has won three Scotland caps and has made more than 200 appearances for the south Wales club. Hearts are believed to be one club interested in taking Alexander back to Scotland, although English Championship trio Norwich, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday are also in the market for a goalkeeper. "I would never say 'never' about going back to Scotland but if I had the choice I'd like to stay in England for the next three of four years until I come to the end of my career," Alexander added. "I like playing in the English leagues, it's an excellent standard and there's quite a bit of interest from a few clubs. "I'd like to think I've got quite a good reputation; over the six years at Cardiff I've done well and established myself in the Scotland set-up and got capped." Alexander is sure that Cardiff are on the rise, especially with their new 30,000-seater stadium being given the final green light this week. "Unfortunately in the time I was here we couldn't get to the Premiership, but the squad has continued to get stronger, the new stadium and facilities are on their way, so it's only a matter of time," he said. Asked if current manager Dave Jones was the man to lead Cardiff into the top flight, Alexander replied: "Who knows? "Sometimes it's not always about the manager, sometimes it's all about the players. "We thought we had a good enough squad this year but maybe we just tipped it short."

Tevez Posted 13 May 2007 Posted 13 May 2007 We should get Robbie Fowler, he's laugh in this division.
Ric Flair Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 We should get Robbie Fowler, he's laugh in this division. I'm struggling with this, please help.
Geo V Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 I'm struggling with this, please help. He`ll laugh at the defenders in this division is my guess??
mancunianfox Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 Anyone know of a goodsite for info on players on the continent who are being released by their clubs/out of contract?
Geo V Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 Anyone know of a goodsite for info on players on the continent who are being released by their clubs/out of contract? Your not going to write to Milan with a shortlist are you mate?
volpeazzurro Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 With West Ham now staying up, they will reportedly have a good amount of money to spend on one or more new strikers. Ashton may stay but its doubtful Tevez will. With any new arrivals I can see one or more of either Harewood, Zamora or Carlton Cole leaving. Any of them could do a job for us but (a) a premiership club might want them and (b) would they want to come to us? Newton will now definetly be surplus to requirements and would be a fair addition for us as long as he was on a free or a very nominal fee as he wasn't that good (kept hoofing the ball into the box for our two 'small' strikers' when the opposition have two big lumbering centre halves, seems a bit thick). Ilewumo did do a good job for Colchester and scored a cracking goal against us, remember, we're not that attractive a prospect ourselves! Varney, a local lad and fan would be a good shout also but is reportedly attracting attention from other people. A lot depends on who our manager will be as Milan and a good stadium on their own arn't enough of an attraction. Cheers.
mancunianfox Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 Your not going to write to Milan with a shortlist are you mate? Ha, not at all. Just interested to see comings and goings and who's available. Besides, I am hoping that the new manager will be making the decisions on who to bring in. In my opinion Milan shouldn't be focusing on the playing side of things too much.
Mort Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 Robbie Fowler Even if there was a chance i wouldnt want him! He's past it IMHO... that sounds harsh but you just had to see him against Fulham the other week, not the kind of player we should be even considering even if there was a chance we could get him, which i dont really think there is.

Geo V Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Being released by Boro. 35yo and maybe too old but I think he can score plenty of goals at this level. Maybe worth a one year contract?? http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...tball_home&

Geo V Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 hahahahahahahahahaha he wouldn't piss on us if we were on fire  At 35 I doubt someone will give him a contract in the Premiership. Let snot forget Charlton decided to tell him to fook off and they are in the same division as us now! Its all about wages and I think MM would pay a decent wage to bring someone like him here. Im not suggesting that he will solve all our problems in attack but maybe he could do a job for one season.

Sly Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 Russell Hoult was in the Litten Tree in Coalville on Saturday with a load of lads from Thringstone football club. My mate Chris was talking to him for about 20 minutes about bits and bobs and he asked him about Leicester. Apparently he said that he'd love to play for us again given the chance. He also said he knows Milan from his time at Portsmouth and with him in charge Leicester are set to go in the right direction. I still think he'd do a job for us, 3/4 years ago he was touted as an England keeper when he was at West Brom.
Mort Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 Always rated him, still think he a fine keeper... just a shame about the... er... "activities" he got up to that led to him being booted out at WestBrom and winding up as Stoke's second choice... but as back up to a younger keeper like Camp I'd love to have him at the club!
