TheBlinding Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Loaning them out is definatley the way to go. We don't want to end up in the Sheff Utd/Billy Sharp scenario
Webbo Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 I thought that Dodds had signed a 1 year contract, in that case whats the point of loaning him out for a season? Surely 3 months max, if he can't impress in that time, sell him in January.
LCFCIMPS Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Could we have McAuley back on a season long loan aswell?
Alexikokopops Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Could we have McAuley back on a season long loan aswell? Sure, I'll have a word with the gaffer later. Anyway, I'll pop down to watch a few games at the Bank to have a gander at Sheehan if goes on loan there, it's only 10 minutes away from me.

Cool, We played some good football now aswell. if we do sign him, can't wait to see him playing cos he sounds a good player. Thinking about coming watch leicester match soon if city aren't playing, watch McAuley, cheer you lot on.

I recognise your face from the Lincolnshire Echo from years ago with a saxophone in hand.
Thracian Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 I thought that Dodds had signed a 1 year contract, in that case whats the point of loaning him out for a season?Surely 3 months max, if he can't impress in that time, sell him in January. Dodds already has a six months loan option sorted out with Notts County if he's not going wanted for the first team squad. And, responding to an earlier poster about MM not having seen Dodds, he won't have seen Sheehan either. Not that I'm sure he's a MA type of player anyway. Great reference is made to his misjudged tackle that led to his sending off against Crewe. Other City players have been sent off for rashness - McCarthy and Kisnorbo come to mind - but their indiscretions were instantly forgiven, of course. For all that Sheehan is essentially a cultured, creative footballer not a destroyer. To whoever mentioned his free kicks yes, on form and given licence, his free kicks are the best I've seen from a City player in this latest era, and that includes Joey Gudjonsson's. If Lincoln are putting together an attacking football team I have no doubt Sheehan will be an asset. Including friendlies he must have played 8 or 9 games with the big boys and, as far as I can recall, has only been on the losing side once. That was against Bolton in the Cup when he came on in extra-time with City losing 3-1. He had a small hand in the goal which brought us to 3-2 and very nearly laid on the equaliser for Dion Dublin in the dying seconds if memory serves. Other games included a League Cup win and the 2-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday when both he and the team gave the Owls a thoroughly professional going over.

Thracian Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Then there was the 10 games down at Mansfield. In which he looked like he had found his level. According to Porter, Sheehan was beset with niggling injuries last season and, according to JBF, if memory serves, he even made the exceptional comment (for a fellow player) of suggesting he needed complete rest for a couple of months to get himself completely right once again. I didn't see him play at Mansfield. By all accounts his form was up and down and that doesn't sound like the Sheehan I was watching two years ago, up to and including the time of the Sheffield Wednesday home match.

Other games included a League Cup win and the 2-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday when both he and the team gave the Owls a thoroughly professional going over. They were "instantly forgiven" as you exaggeratedly put it, because they were two proven first teamers who formed the backbone of our team before McAuley came and Paddy buggered off. No ones saying that Sheehan doesn't deserve a chance, far from it, I think that he should be rewarded for his loyalty, staying with us despite barely playing, but he should be given that chance at a lower level to prove himself. Yes, in the games you mention, he played well and was technically sound, but, in contrast, he could be nowhere to be seen in some games for Mansfield, and that is against poorer quality oppositon. Surely this balances out against the games he played well in, and shows Sheehan up to be inconsistent and unable to handle low quality opposition effectively. Is Championship first team quality unable to get the better of that in League Two? I think not. If Sheehan does go to Lincoln on loan, I've got every faith in him that he'll do well, and then, when he shows that he's developed and can regain some consistency, he should be considered for the first team.
Sly Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 A friend of mine spoke with Alan Sheehan and Richard Stearman last night. The Lincoln loan is on for Sheehan, altough he believes he can play as Championship level. Richard Stearman doesn't know where he's going to play next season and confirmed further signings would be made.

I guess it's a question of whether Sheehan can prove himself playing regular first-team football. We haven't released him for a reason and he has played the odd first team game so he must have a bit of ability. Let's see what he can do at Lincoln and whether Martin Allen likes what he sees. Good move for everybody. I have a funny feeling Stearman may be moved into the centre more next season. We have a number of players who can play rightback, with probably less cover at centreback than we've had for a while.
Wezleylowski Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 I was curious to see what the Mansfield Town fans thought about Sheehan, so i posted on there forum. Its here if anyone wants to see. Knowone has replied yet but I'm sure someone will soon

Conversation update Chambers and Kaebi have been playing on the left side in training and have both looked comfortable, so Sheehan wants to go out on loan to get regular first team football. You can't blame him for that. Lincoln have submitted a bif for a season long loan deal, which he is interested in. Stearman doesn't know where he'll play next season, as we've signed near enough a new side, he made a joke about playing up front?!? Stearman was unaware that we were playing Notts County in two weeks and didn't comment when asked about Newton's arrival at the club. Maybe not impressed? The lack of money being spent was discussed and apparently some will be spent at some stage. Not sure how they'd know that though? Both said that Mattock was as strong as a herd of ox's for his age. Oh.....and they were both being good drinking bottled water. Both prefered to go out in Loughbourgh as Leicester is dodgy for a night out.

Molson Canadian Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 from skysports http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...+Sheehan+switch McAuley backs Sheehan switch Lincoln City old boy Gareth McAuley believes his Leicester team-mate Alan Sheehan would be an ideal signing for the Sincil Bank club. Imps director of football John Deehan is known to be tracking Sheehan and while McAuley believes the player is good enough for the Championship, he accepts it would be a noticeable coup on Lincoln's part should they land him. Of the opinion that his younger team-mate, a midfielder, would gain an excellent footballing education at Lincoln, McAuley believes the move could bear fruit for both parties. "I think he's good enough for the Championship, but he's not really had a chance here," McAuley told the Lincolnshire Echo. "He's hungry and wants to play first-team football and, if he feels he's not going to get the chance at Leicester, then it could be a good move for him to drop to Lincoln's level. "And he would be a very good player in League Two. "He's young and he's still learning, but he has everything that he needs to be a good player."
Thracian Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 http://www.football.co.uk/lincoln_city/imp...an_249254.shtml Interesting to read the comments of our current centre-back McAuley and a man who is well able to see Sheehan's ability at close quarters... Are we seriously going to waste money on a new left-back because potentially one the best we've had for years made a couple of rash challenges against Crewe, had a groing injury which cost him his fitness and a then a series of niggling injuries after that which seemed to stop him gettting properly fit. Come on Martin. Do what you're good at. Lift his confidence sky high and show some faith in the lad.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 He looks a bit like someone really famous. I thought it was Gavin Henson to start with but I reckon there's an even better lookalike.

If Chambers and Kaebi have been training on the left, this might mean Allen thinks he doesn't need anybody else to come in as cover for the left side. Or perhaps it's just in case a deal falls through.
