On his day Vassell can be excellent but if he isn't fully involved you are basically playing with 10 men. Plus he only scores against Villa.

Bit disappointed if he's going elsewhere because we really need a class centre-forward, or even two. Medium term there are lots on the way through but right now it's the big piece that's missing from the jigsaw.

A plunderer of goals with a bit of know-how and the additional ability to bring others into play. I'd be surprised if we've allowed ourselves to be beaten to Fowler though there may be reasons we couldn't overcome.

Whatever those reasons, we need an effective alternative and we need him/them quickly.

Otherwise, for all our spending, we'll have the same problem as last season. We simply won't score sufficient goals.

Another thing is, Cardiff were one of the first clubs to move for him. Perhaps he's impressed with their determination to sign him when others had been put off most of the summer.

I might be reading in to it, but the line ' all but ended Leicester's hopes of signing him ' doesn't mean it's quite the dead cert deal to Cardiff. Fowler might still be tempted, but it's likely to be another big name that we miss out on.
