lildave3 Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 What are peoples opinions? Can't say I like it. Never had. Although if it's anything like the UB40 classic, I larves it.
CanaryEmma Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 I hate it! And my older brother (when younger) apparently insisted on trying a sip of my dad's and then spat it out all over his white shirt! Sums it up for me!
AoWW Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Love it to bits!!! ...or at least I did until last Friday when an otherwise beautiful relationship went a tad, erm, wrong! Haven't touched a drop since and swore not to ever again. Though, tbh, I really can't see it lasting a whole lot longer, but keep it quiet!
Phube Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Sorry, but to be honest it's a silly question. It's like asking if you like meat?! Obviously some weirdo's will say no... but some will say I like beef and pork but not lamb or chicken etc... Red wine covers such a vast array of tastes/grapes/blends/expenses that to say you don't like it per say is very odd. I mean how many red wines have you tried? I myself am partial to a nice Gran Reserva Rioja, but would hate a very cheap Crianza Rioja (<£3.99). So if all you've treid is cheap red wine that leave you mouth in a state of disgust, you need to higher up the class levels! But if you don't like Rioja (and why the hall not, they're so smooth, rich and choclatety/vanillary), there's still; Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Temparanillo (used for Riojas), Tarrango (a lovely chillable, fruity red) and a multitude of other grapes I've no idea about. Then there's the blends of some of the above, giving another multitude of 'red wines' different from their single varietal states! Lets not mention that where a wine is grown also changes it's characteristics, so the same Cabernet Sauvignon produced in Bordeux will be sooo different from those produced in Australia which in turn will be different from those produced in California, and so on and so forth!! Finally I know at least 4 people who a few years ago wouldn't have touched 'reds' with a barge pole, but now it's what they prefer to drink (one being my wife, another is over 50!!)! So before you come on here and say you don't like 'red wine' again, make sure you've tried as many as you can get your hands on!! Then I might believe you!! Phube Out!!
stez Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 red wine sucks arse, except, of couse (like lildave says) the UB40 classic, which is in fact, a neil diamond classic. Red, red wine Go to my head Make me forget that i Still need her so Red, red wine Its up to you All I can do, Ive done But memories wont go No, memories wont go Id have sworn That with time Thoughts of you Would leave my head I was wrong And I find Just one thing Makes me forget Red, red wine Stay close to me Dont let me be alone Its tearing apart My blue, blue heart white wine; i like. Obviously some weirdo's will say no... but some will say I like beef and pork but not lamb or chicken etc...Phube Out!! <_< indeed! gerrout
Simi Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 I don't like it that much, but then again I suppose I'm not old enough to appreciate the taste.
Deathside Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 I'm sure you can guess my opinion on the subject based on what you know of me And if you need a clue I've just ordered a case of mixed reds
Unit Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Horrible stuff, gives you a shit of a hangover too. Ugh.
James. Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 I;m too clumsy to drink red wine. Aha. I see what you did there. I like to pretend that I know what I'm talking about with wine but I don't really know anything apart from after a few pints a steak goes down beautifully with some Argentinian malbec.

It's like asking if you like meat?!Obviously some weirdo's will say no... <Phube going on about different types of wine> So before you come on here and say you don't like 'red wine' again, make sure you've tried as many as you can get your hands on!! Then I might believe you!! Woo hoo Phube says I've got to drink lots of red wine!!! Thanks, love - you've just made my day!
lookwhaticando Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Woo hoo Phube says I've got to drink lots of red wine!!! :thumbsup:Thanks, love - you've just made my day! Pisshead. The Reds I enjoy are predominantly from Australia, California and Chile. Occasionally Spain or Italy, too. As a rule of thumb, I enjoy a bottle that costs a minimum of $10 (4 quid 50) but more typically in the $15-$30 range (7 to 15 quid). We do buy really cheap red for cooking purposes (it costs $22.95 for a 3L bottle... or around $5.74 for 750mL (2 quid 60)). I tried some once. Not to be repeated.
Monk Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Amazed at how many of you are anti Red Wine!! I love it! Especially Rioja!! Gives god almighty hangovers though!

You've good taste in wine though - you're not actually as dumb as you sometimes seem, you know?
Thracian Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Chilean Merlot for me. Indeed Chilean reds in general. But, at the other end of the scale a nicely chilled Muscadet De Valencia is a very grapy and extremely relaxing aperitif.

A bottle a day keeps the doctor away. Pisshead? Who, moi? You've good taste in wine though - you're not actually as dumb as you sometimes seem, you know? Just been to the shops and invested in a bottle of New Zealand Pinot Noir - it was on sale... $35 down from $49. You have to have a pop at a discount like that.

AoWW Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Oops, I appear to have just 'accidentally' (without really concentrating) opened a rather nice bottle of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon. Well, having got that far, it'd be rude not to have some really...

Nationwider Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 I'm going off the traditional ball-breakers at the moment in favour of more easy-drinking types. That's why Nationwider is proud to sponsor Tesco Finest Garnacha, and Tesco Bog-Standard Garnacha. In the white corner, Frascati is proving very popular. Pinot Grigio is sooooo last year, yar.
