Gradel Watch

My Mate is a Bournemouth fan and he went to Forest. Said Gradel played really well in a backs to the wall Cherries performance.

They have a habit of getting good young players on loan (Defoe, Rio Ferdinand, Duberry) and helping them develop skills and capabilities in a good footballing environment (cf also Jamie Redknapp, Matt Holland etc).

I don't think Newton is as bad as you make out, it certainly didn't help playing him on the left wing for a large part of the game. That is no better than the idea of Chambers playing left-back. I can see he is going to be the new Hughes for you though.

It's all about Ka'abi this season.

Nah I thought Newton was poor yesterday, even when he switched to the right wing. When given the ball he sorta jogged forward, refused to take his man on, turned round and rolled it back to Stearman. Without exception. On the left he was completely useless, not his fault there but on the right he wasn't much better.

I think there is more to come from him but I think he's never gonna set the world alight. Solid enough backup though, I can't imagine he is costing us much.

Logan Watch:

Logan: 9. Confident and has a great kick, pulled off some good saves too.
Logan: Kicked well but never came out for one, single cross. Not impressed. Reminds me too much of Spencer.
How does Logan remind you of Spencer?? Nothing like him as he didn't concede a goal for a start.

Good point as Forest have a decent side apparently but not good enough for promotion may I add. Had we won today, hardly anyone would have mentioned Gradel BTW! Im not saying he isnt good enough as I have never seen him play but look at some of the crap that was written about Mattock today after one bad game! Most players need to learn there trade before being thrust into the deep end and Mattock looked like some of the pressure was getting to him as we expect too much IMO.

BTW, I still want to see a Chambers - Kaebi right side before we talk of Gradel playing for the first team.

I would love to see Kaebi in the centre of midfield with Clemence and Hayes on the left ;)

Correct Fez, Newton is not as bad as Thracian is making out.

It was Newtons fault Mattock had a shocker though........!!!!!!

Mattock played crap. he had an off day. He was off the boil. Through no fault of anybodies but his own.

Just cos hes academy, the sun shines out his arse.

Im sure it wont happen again, but he did and thats the end of it.

Oh yeah, well done Gradel. Keep it up!

It might suit you to say that but, like most folk, I thought Mattock had an off day. What I said about Newton was not to ignore negate Mattock's mistakes - and they weren't the only ones on the day.

I would only have played Mattock as a substitute at this stage - for the very purpose of building his knowledge and confidence gradually. But I seem to be in a minotrity of one on that as I was when I said don't hurry Fryatt/Weso/williams back from injury last season.

Newton I don't really want to talk about. To me, as I've mentioned, he's an impressionist. I judge wingers simply. Goals and assists. He sometimes looks okay but in reality he doesn't get nearly enough of either.

newtons attitude yesterday was a discrace in my book , thought he had a decent 1st half but in the second he was playing half hearted hospital balls and worst of all with minutes left on the clock he casually strolls over to get the ball to give to stearman for a throw and just dropped it so stearman had to run 10 yards to go and get it . somebody knock that bloody chip off his shoulder

Havn't seen many mentioning him on here, but was I the only one who thought he could turn out to be a bloody good signing? Quite quick, unafraid of taking players on (and able to do so), and was always looking to get into good positions. I wonder how long we can convince Leicester to let us have him for?
Agreed. He has obvious talent and fits into the squad very nicely. I can see him putting in some great performances, especially at home. I think it is very hard to tell how long he will be with us - there are a lots of factors involved.

To put a dampner on things, I remember a certain S Cooke making a similar impact to start with.

Having seen Gradel at Forest i would not compare him to S Cooke! He can tackle back for starters and run at least three times quicker.
He did get upended a couple of times, kept getting stuck in though. He was quieter than Saturday and he seemed to be wearing about six shin pad supports so whether they were actually for some support for his ankle, maybe. He got kicked everywhere on Saturday, wouldn't be surprised if he was carrying a few bruises

Did we let him play in the Cup for them last night? Strange considering he's only there for a month. Looks like Allen might be prepared to let them have him for a lot longer.

Obvious statement but it already shows he's a cut above the other loanees Dodds and Sheehan.

It's a good start but such player often do make impacts on the debuts, time will tell hopefully he can keep it up.

If he impresses throughout the month, he genuinely SHOULD get his chance here.

Not just on the basis of one game though - he needs to consistently impress.

i may be wrong but didn't sheehan start for us last night

Past loanees. Remember how Sheehan played his first match made a couple of sub appearances and then disappeared for a year?

This is from a Forest fan.

Gradel played against us last Saturday and my God is he a complete and utter twat. Prances about, thinking he's very good (he is though, at dribbling; very pacy), and when there's the slightest bit of contact he dives and complains to the ref. He got booed by the whole of the CG when he did it twice and he deserved it. Bit like Cristiano Ronaldo before he matured - bags of talent, just a total idiot.

For fook sake, get him back here and play him. He's better than anything we have on the right wing at present. Really angers me. He would have loved it out in the rain last night. :D

Kaebi on the left, Gradel on the right. Sorted.

I'd go with Kaebi at rightback because Chambers is injured. Gradel on the right wing with Hayes or Porter on the left.

A combined height that still doesn't reach Peter Crouch's shoulders.

If he does do well and we can get him back, am I the only one that would like to see the midfield as this...

Gradel weso clemence Hayes

I would much rather us sign a proven left sided winger. We need some REAL quality on at least one of the wings, someone who's got ability now and not potential. I would be interested to know exactly who we've tried to sign this summer that's an attacking left sided midfielder. It appears we've been knocked back several times for some reason.

It wasn't the whole story but all players disappear if they have groin injuries. They take a long time to get right.

As for being "a cut above", Gradel, Dodds and Sheehan all play totally different positions. And Sheehan captained the team Gradel and Dodds played in.

I don't know if all or any will make the grade but Sheehan is currently the only one of the three with first team experience at Leicester with a record of four wins, one draw and one defeat (to Bolton in the cup aet) in the matches he's been involved.

But, yes, I'd have Gradel back tomorrow. He would seem to be exactly what we need on the right just now IF people have a bit of patience and don't lambast him something goes wrong.

It's not so much how often wingers fail to beat their man or miss with their shots, it's how many times they succeed.

PS to Fez: I've never seen Gradel play left wing. I hope that's not where MA's getting his ideas from. :D
