Thracian Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 What? You've spent the last two years saying things like "I couldn't care less about the Sheffield team we're about to face" and "We have nothing to worry about, let Plymouth worry about us" That doesn't mean there would never be exceptions. Kightly is one guy I might mention. Although the best way to deal with him is probably to get him on our books. He's exactly the kind of player I'd have loved us to sign in the summer.

The People's Hero Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 I've banged on about 3-5-2 on here for as long as I care to remember. It's always been our best bet. Likewise. When I used to care about the football anyway.
TheBlinding Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 http://www.football.virginmedia.com/page/l...1128906,00.html good goals
Milky Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 http://www.football.virginmedia.com/page/l...1128906,00.htmlgood goals Sensational stuff! The first was magical.
Harpenden Fox Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 Max was 'The Times' Player of the Week for League One. Respect
Thracian Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 People will perhaps think he's got lucky scoring goals like that. I can promise you that's not the case, He whacks em in from distance all the time. It might have been the video but he seems to have bulked up a bit as well. Not good enough for us?. You must be joking.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 Gradel given compassionate leave Gradel joined Bournemouth on loan just before the start of the season. Bournemouth's on-loan Leicester City winger Max Gradel has returned to France on compassionate leave, following the death of his mother. The 19-year-old had scored twice in Saturday's 4-1 win at Crewe. "Football pales into insignificance when a tragedy like this occurs. Our thoughts and feelings go out to him," Cherries manager Kevin Bond said. "We will give him all the time he needs before he's ready to put on a pair of boots again," he told the club website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...uth/7034192.stm
Bryn Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 Apparently he's had a shit few games for em though as well, was reading their forums. At first he was hogging the ball and his end product was awful. Apparently his crossing and passing ability has come on now to compliment his running, dribbling and tracking back. His first goal was perfect wing play for the modern game - won the ball at his own corner flag, dribbled down the wing, played the ball infield, came central, received the return and fired home.

Thrac doesnt want to hear about the problems with his game though! As I have said before, I think that lads like him on loan will grow and grow some more and he`ll come back a more complete player than he left. Maybe come January he may give us more options but only bring him back if he will get into the team and GMs system or else leave him on loan.

I've always been aware of his weaknesses and have mentioned them many times. It is first and foremost about what players do rather than what they don't do. And Gradel scores more goals in a season than some wingers score in their careers.
Ric Flair Posted 9 October 2007 Posted 9 October 2007 Gradel is the one youngster who's gone out on loan and looks to be taking the chance with both hands. I thought he might see it as a little patronising that we sent him out on loan, given his supposed attitude. But Bournemouth staff and fans can't speak highly enough of him. I know it's far too early to say, but they seem to be really building a rapport with him, like they did with a certain Jermaine Defoe. When Gradel went to Bournemouth I mentioned that they have a good record with loan stars, it's looking like it will continue with Gradel. He's there until at least January. If and when he returns from France and he continues to progress then we are in for a potential star in the making. He does need to progress though and if there's one player who will benefit from regular first team football in a lower league then it's Gradel. He'll learn the discipline he needs for professional football and he's already picking that up. His end product is getting better, he's always been an excellent finisher for a midfielder and he'll beat players all day long with pace and skill. I hope Megson recognises what Gradel brings to the table (almost poetry) and once Maxi has plied his trade at Bournemouth, he's bought back and unleashed on, let's be honest some very mediocre teams even in this league. The future's bright for him.

The future's bright for him. If Leicester are waiting for him to learn perfect discipline they might wait for ever. Gradel is an emotive Afro-French youngster and there's no mistaking it. I'd be surprised if he ever makes discipline his strong point. However I think the risk factor is exaggerated. It's not as if he's some sort of headcase who flies over the edge. He's just a bit temperamental and a bit too mouthy to officials especially when he's getting roughed up by defenders and doesn't get the protective he doubtless thinks he should get. He'd add something to our options, no question. Some of the positions Chambers found himself in today would have been milk and honey for Gradel.
lildave3 Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Was pleased when I saw this, but will he get a chance? Is he on loan for the season btw?
Mark Posted 26 December 2007 Author Posted 26 December 2007 I'm sure his loan ends at the end of the year. But I'm not sure if Max will be staying around long, a few weeks ago when asked if he would like to extend his loan spell at Bournemouth he said "'...Football-wise, I would love to. But I've got a brother to look after and don't really know what's going to happen.'"
Fez of Mahrez Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 Someone posted on a Bournemouth messageboard that he would be returning in January but obviously I don't know how reliable that is. Can't believe I went to see Bournemouth play, he wasn't even on the bench and then the next game he starts. Ridiculous. Pleased for him and for their fans today though.
Jimmy Posted 26 December 2007 Posted 26 December 2007 after his initial month, it got extended for the season

Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 Today was great. Totally unexpected. Good ole 'Pepsi' Max gave their back line a real scare. The bloke marking him nearly pooed his pants drilling the ball into the East Stand that time. It's what the fans want - scary little wingers taking players on. Gradel tore them apart all afternoon. It was really great to watch. Gradel showed good attitude and ability We played the ball from player to player making sure we didn't lose it and eventually we were rewarded by a good goal by Gradel after he gave the defender the slip. If we can continue doing this rather than just lobbing it down field hoping one of our players will get it in a 50-50 chance, we should do better. Gradel is the sort of player who can turn a match, so in our present state I personally would play him. Wingers with a bit of pace and good feet are very hard to find, especially at our level which was what made losing Elliott for nothing so painful. Doesnt matter if they cant defend too well etc, for fans anticipation and excitement alone they should play when available Great result today and must be the best performance of the season so far, everybody played their part, but I think that particular mention should go to Max - he gave their full back a torrid time all afternoon And the opposition view... Daniels had an absolute nightmare against their right winger, definitely at fault for the 1st goal and didn't put one good cross in all day.
WetFlannel Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 And the opposition view... sounds very promising... well dug up
