Ric Flair Posted 15 August 2007 Share Posted 15 August 2007  Yeah good one Munson, and coming from the tool that gave us Mark de Vries in an attacking midfielder role 'Horses for courses' - SE25 is somewhere you have to go and fight out a result it always has been, set out your stall to attack and you'll get mullered. Go there prepared to fight and battle and you'll get something, but you make sure you have the players in the side to do it. You make your team hard to beat down there, something only Martin O'Neill ever seemed to get right. That is out thinking the opposition, be bigger, stronger and better than them and you'll win. I suppose I should credit you for having de Vries in the side. I think Odhiambo would be a useful weapon down there. He seemed to be the only player last night to play without any fear, albeit for only 4 minutes I may have to change my tune on Odhiambo, didn't think he was as advanced towards first team football as the likes of McKay or Sappleton, but perhaps he is? Looks the part.
The People's Hero Posted 15 August 2007 Share Posted 15 August 2007 For those of you wanting to go to Palace with two midgets up front and some airy-fairy free role for someone, do you have any comprehension of the game of football?Selhurt Park is a place you go loaded with people who will fight, kick and elbow their way to a point or possibly a sneeky away win. If you want some sort of free flowing Arsenalesque football stay at home and play Championship Football Pro Evolution Manager 2008 or watch Jeff and the gang of footballing hasbeens. We rarely win at Selhurst, let alone play well so don't go expecting anything better. Remember a hard fought 1-0 win away there, Iwan Roberts goal. Then surviving an absolute onslaught in the days when Palace were a good (but hard) footballing side. Happy days, those.

How we miss a rampaging winger. Now there's an example of effective wing play Thracian. Heskey running at you with purpose? Or Levi poncing down the wing, refusing to look up and then dilly-dallying about when in space. Then all the di ckhead LCFC fans clap him when he wins a throw in out of a fantastic opportunity to break. Oh.. I forgot your other wonder-solution! Hammond on the wing! Can't control the ball, kick it straight or stay onside. He'd be a great fu cking winger he would.

Master Fox Posted 15 August 2007 Share Posted 15 August 2007 I sympathise with what you say - we'll need competitors at Selhurst - but our mean, defence-based containing football hasn't worked there lately, has it?Successive 2-0 defeats as I recall and a point's the best we've managed in a decade. I think we beat Wimbledon in the league cup there a few years back. Anyway, I can’t see anything more than a convincing defeat for Leicester down there on Saturday. After reading through this thread looking at people’s proposed starting line up's doesn’t really fill me with any confidence in our ability to be able to actually even compete against palace. We need some serious additions to the squad or it’s going to be the same old story for another season. Oh well.

It's early days yet for DJ et al, good competition for places up front. That central midfield WILL work.

Master Fox Posted 15 August 2007 Share Posted 15 August 2007 Just want the flanks sorted I reckon. It's early days yet for DJ et al, good competition for places up front. That central midfield WILL work. The flanks are a major problem. The whole De Vries / Hume partnership is a disgrace. We seem to look like we’ll always concede a goal from set pieces. Kisnorbo and McAuley are still a liability at the back. Stearman and Sheenan are both useless. The team’s inability to string more two passes together. We MUST sign another decent striker. Fryatt is shit. Not convinced by the Kish at all in centre mid. We’ve not really got any cover in that area apart from Hellings and Hughes which is worrying. The team and squad set up looks like a bit of shambles. I think it’s going to be another poor showing from Leicester this season. Sorry, all sounds a bit negative but that’s the way I see it. Ric Flair Posted 15 August 2007 Share Posted 15 August 2007 On this talk of the flanks, even if we get them sorted. There's then the question of whether we'll utilise them properly or still be a touch route one straight through the middle. I suppose it's better to have them and work on that, than not have them and completely be ballsed.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 15 August 2007 Share Posted 15 August 2007 Let's just play a starting XI who can all play naturally in the positions sanctioned, that way hopefully none of our players will be dragged out of position and leave us exposed. Solidity is crucial on such away games. I don't think our record at Selhurst park is very good of late!!
Wooly Posted 15 August 2007 Share Posted 15 August 2007 Is Kisnorbo banned for this game, or did the Carling Cup count as the second of his two game ban..? Could this be the first showing (from the bench at least) the mystical Iranian we apparently signed in the summer?

Doubt he'll be fit, but when you look at our potential starting line up at Palace there's very little threat in there, that's what worries me the most. Kaebi's pace and forward play could be a real asset

THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 15 August 2007 Share Posted 15 August 2007 no i totally agree so far allens not put 11 players out who all specialise in there given position Shocking really considering the amount of signings we've made, all we seem to be left with is a naff goalkeeper and a load of strikers who don't know where to find an onion bag to put their fruit and veg in. Hopefully we an get 1 or two players in soon, but as we all know we need quality and where is it going to come from. We don't want 3 or 4 more Andy Welshes. Did anyone see Josh Lowe's goal at the weekend, where did that come from!!!!
BigGibbo Posted 15 August 2007 Share Posted 15 August 2007 yea we need a new keeper & a left & right mid/winger of high quality at the least a new good striker wouldn't hurt either yea i seen the goal he's still crap tho

I'd rather we spent any remaining dosh on some players who can cast some genuine creativity and aggression between midfield and attack and ofcourse a sodding left back!!!
