Lyrically Kanye is very good, unlike other rappers. And not only Kanye, but a lot of hip hop songs are in fact samples.

Here we go again, this stereotype annoys me so much. If you gave Hip-Hop a chance and didn't like it fair enough, but people that generalize all Hip Hop, and call anyone that listens to it a Chav, really do annoy me. Talking about Chav's listening to Kanye West and comparing it to Umbrella is laughable.

I know for a fact people that don't listen to a lot of hip hop listen to Kanye, for example Joe.

Struggling to see the point of this really. I'd rather listen to Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Hasn't got an annoying twat talking garbage over the top of it.

And yes, I love some rap and hip hop (Jurassic 5, The Roots, Common, The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, Ugly Duckling, the Nextmen, People Under The Stairs, Blackalicious, Beastie Boys, Souls of Mischief, Lords of the Underground, Outkast off the top of my head).

Personally I don't like him, I find his voice incredibly annoying and the sampling doesn't excite me.

I'm actually going through a big hip hop phase at the moment but mainly stuff from the early 90s which puts 99% of the stuff around at the moment in the shade.

The new album sounds like it was made by kids for kids, the samples are sort of harmless. And most songs sound kinda the same. Nothing against Kanye West, but he used to do better music. "College Dropout" forever.

Exactly,my point exactly,it's not that I don't like the hip hop genre because I do,I have a liking for good hip hop acts such as Beastie Boys(who are one of my all time favourite groups),Coolio,Run DMC,The Roots,Vanilla Ice and The Fugees,I just don't like modern hip hop seeing as all they go on about in their lyrics in gangs and women,and they usually steal some elses music like Kayne does.And plus the chav culture love all these hip hop artists and that dosen't help either!

Only Hip Hop I've found I genuinely enjoy is Jurassic 5. Is this really Hip Hop though? It seems to span a vast amount of genres, at least I always think so when listening to the various albiiii.

Still, anyway, whilst we're here. I'm going to label this 'Hip Hop Week' in Music Discussion. And whilst I'm living here (basecamp) - I get to make these sort of decisions. Ok?
