The People's Hero Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 Plus Points. - Daft Punk were genius. - Rare good use of sampling. - Kanye can actually rap. - Good tune in it's own right. Bad Points. - All losers are bound to like it. - I've heard it twice already on public transport being played from a mobile phone. The intellectually challenged seem to have already claimed Kanye.

And there's me thinking you liked the Ben E King sample in Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls

A lot of Kanyes albums are samples, he's has 3 albums now that are all considered excellent albums. Production and Lyrically.
The People's Hero Posted 7 September 2007 Author Posted 7 September 2007 A lot of Kanyes albums are samples, he's has 3 albums now that are all considered excellent albums. Production and Lyrically. Yeah but he's been claimed by what we, down here, call Pikeys.
Nod.E Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 I do know that The Oriental Express loves playing this song whenever i am around, because he knows i don't like that type of music.
Koke Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 Lyrically Kanye is very good, unlike other rappers. And not only Kanye, but a lot of hip hop songs are in fact samples. The song is alright.
Nationwider Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 Generally speaking, Kanye West is a quality act. If you're going to sample (and who doesn't?), then go left-field and go long like Kanye. I like.
NFFC Chris Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 - I've heard it twice already on public transport being played from a mobile phone. The intellectually challenged seem to have already claimed Kanye. I think that says it all, nearly all tracks played by the chav culture are bound to be terrible and this is no different.I really can't see what's special about it,it's almost as bad as that Umberella song and like that song it's beginning to become irritating very quickly.

TheBlinding Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 I generally don't like much rap but I do like Kanye for some reason

That's a crap generalisation. Normally I don't like this sort of music but there's something about Kanye West's music that attracts me and many others to it.

Here we go again, this stereotype annoys me so much. If you gave Hip-Hop a chance and didn't like it fair enough, but people that generalize all Hip Hop, and call anyone that listens to it a Chav, really do annoy me. Talking about Chav's listening to Kanye West and comparing it to Umbrella is laughable. I know for a fact people that don't listen to a lot of hip hop listen to Kanye, for example Joe. If people can get by the stereotype and give people like Common, Kanye West and Talib Kweli a chance, I'm sure you'd have a slightly different people.

People do get by the stereotype. It's only the narrow minded who know nothing about the genre that can't. And they have shit taste in music anyway. Talib Kweli is amazing. I assume you know the Train of Thought album - hip hop just doesn't get much better. Add other acts and artists to that list like J5, Blackalicious, Foreign Beggars, The Roots, Roots Manuva, One Self, etc etc and all of a sudden the stereotyping looks a little foolish.

God J5 are incredible. Anyway, I like Kanye West.

Its been murdered already for me the chavs love it already heard it playing on several youths phones so i don't like it. A couple of months ago i had it on myspace & thought it was really good but i ussually stop liking music when it comes out also i prefer daft punks original anyway
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 September 2007 Posted 9 September 2007 Struggling to see the point of this really. I'd rather listen to Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Hasn't got an annoying twat talking garbage over the top of it. And yes, I love some rap and hip hop (Jurassic 5, The Roots, Common, The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, Ugly Duckling, the Nextmen, People Under The Stairs, Blackalicious, Beastie Boys, Souls of Mischief, Lords of the Underground, Outkast off the top of my head). Personally I don't like him, I find his voice incredibly annoying and the sampling doesn't excite me. I'm actually going through a big hip hop phase at the moment but mainly stuff from the early 90s which puts 99% of the stuff around at the moment in the shade.
MC Prussian Posted 9 September 2007 Posted 9 September 2007 The new album sounds like it was made by kids for kids, the samples are sort of harmless. And most songs sound kinda the same. Nothing against Kanye West, but he used to do better music. "College Dropout" forever.

Fez, if you're liking your hip hop at the minute check out One Self. Album is called Children of Possibility. Been caning it all weekend, brilliant. Oh, and DJ Vadim - The Soundcatcher, not a hip hop album as such but well worth a go. And while I'm here - Foreign Beggars. And Dilated Peoples (guarantee you'll like them). That's all for now!! Exactly,my point exactly,it's not that I don't like the hip hop genre because I do,I have a liking for good hip hop acts such as Beastie Boys(who are one of my all time favourite groups),Coolio,Run DMC,The Roots,Vanilla Ice and The Fugees,I just don't like modern hip hop seeing as all they go on about in their lyrics in gangs and women, and they usually steal some elses music like Kayne does. And plus the chav culture love all these hip hop artists and that dosen't help either! The People's Hero Posted 10 September 2007 Author Posted 10 September 2007 Only Hip Hop I've found I genuinely enjoy is Jurassic 5. Is this really Hip Hop though? It seems to span a vast amount of genres, at least I always think so when listening to the various albiiii. Still, anyway, whilst we're here. I'm going to label this 'Hip Hop Week' in Music Discussion. And whilst I'm living here (basecamp) - I get to make these sort of decisions. Ok?
