Booing david Bentley

England fans really are an embarrasment - every coutnry's national anthem is booed at every game, then the boo-boys target one of our own players (usually "fat" Frank, and today Phil Neville and Bentley). Bentley had every right to pull out of the U21s - he'd just played 40/50 games in his first full season as a regular first team player and didn't want to burn out. Fair play I say. He'd played enough games for the U21s and it's not like the Under 21 championships are that important anyway.

To all the boo-boys out there saying Bentley should never have turned down his country - would you boo Jamie Carragher or Paul Scholes if they came out of international retirement? I doubt it, yet they did exactly the same thing i.e. said they didn't want to play for their country.

Get a grip!

If I was dumb enough to pay £40+ (plus travel expenses etc) to watch England, which I'm not, I'd have every right to vent my spleen at anyone I thought was taking the p!ss. After all they make enough money at our expense.

Lampard for example, has consistently under-performed for England over the past two-years, yet he reckons that a salary of £100000/week isn't good enough for him.

And most players of Bentley's age group would give anything for a place in the national under-21 squad, yet he treats it with complete contempt.

If he thinks he's bigger than the team, then he deserves every piece of abuse that came to him!

Some players need reminding which planet they live on, never mind which country they live in.

It depends in my opinion if your still good enough to play for your country it should be an honour & should be mandatory. Football is there job each week they get paid alot more than most of us earn in a year & to say there there too knackered to play or they don't fancy it doesn't wash with me to be honest.

I wasn't one of the people booing but when someone decides to tell there country no my opinion of them drops completely if Beckham(etc) can still do it why can't Carragher(etc).

Thats not the same bentley didn't want to play for the under 21's he still wanted to play for the full squad.

As for booing the national anthem I've heard plenty of other teams boo ours and go to holland, germany italy they usually boo their opposing national anthem, not saying its right but its not just england who do it.

The bottom line is england fans are mainly jester hat wearing face painted families there is the odd idiot but in a crowd of 80,000+ you'll always find them, england have a lot less idiots now especially compared with other countries.

I wish english fans supported their team like scottish or irish fans both sets of supporters were amazing last night, constant noise and passion for 90 minutes, english fans should watch and learn.

The stadium looked an absolute joke from around 70 mins, why do people go to watch a match for 70 mins? I understand the traffic is bad but surely for one day you can cope.

Since when do England pay Lampard's wages? What the absolute fook are you blathering on about? He's been in consistantly superb form for Chelsea and hasn't done THAT much wrong for England apart from missing the target almost every time for about a year. His scoring record is still superior to Gerrards, and he does as good a job in midfield, albeit with a tendancy to play the ball more simply.

And how precisely did Bentley treat the under 21's with "contempt"?

"I spoke with David on Thursday. He said to me on the back of a long season, and possible burn-out next season, that he'd like to pull himself out of the tournament."

As disappointed as Pearce was, it doesn't seem like Bentley was anything other than polite about it. I love how the media seems to have villainised Bentley to an extent for pulling out with fatigue, and yet when Carragher gets a strop on because he's not being picked, he's entirely justified. Utter balls, the lot of it.

Shows how one can make an elephant out of a fly.

I saw a peanut stand, heard a rubber band,

I saw a needle that winked its eye.

But I think I will have seen everything

When I see an elephant fly.

Because england matches especially now the new wembley has opened is seen as the 'place to be seen' its fashionable, I know people who don't even like football but still go to england matches thats why you can hear a pin drop during england matches despite there being 80+ thousand people there, now compare that to say scotland 30 thousand less people inside their stadium and have a massive gap between fans and pitch but the atmosphere and passion from the fans was amazing.

Worst bit about this my dad wanted to see england play in the new wembley so I am going to watch them play estonia, not looking forward to it.

What's money got to do with it? Since when did earning 25k a week stop people becoming tired?

I know but its hard to get excited about it.

Just go, enjoy the day, relax, spend some time with your dad. It's a welcome break from watching Leicester IMO.

Cant believe ANY fans who would Boo players in the team they go to watch.

Best thing would have been for bentley to score...then see who Boos.

Maybe Bentley made a mistake for not playing in the Under 21's but he had his own reasons rightly or wrongly.

If he went and played crap he'd have been slaughtered anyway!

The fact that half the fans don't make any noise all game and if it was then it was a 5 seconds happy clapping session to the Liverpool song "Ring of Fire". They then go & boo two of our players. Twats.
