FilboFox Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I'm going to give him a chance, I think people are being very harsh from the off without even giving him a chance. I think even DB11 would have a more open mind about the appointment. Sure, if after 4/5 games (if he get's that long) and we've only got 3/4 points then moan about his appointment, but to moan about him and criticise him before we've even played 1 game or even been here for 1 day is madness. He's got my backing from the start anyway, it's only fair.Good luck Megson. Oh I will give him a chance... but I just don't think he's the BEST one we could have got...
filbertway Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Oh I will give him a chance... but I just don't think he's the BEST one we could have got... I don't think he is either, I just don't see why everyones gone completely emo over his appointment.
MPH Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Whats going to happen to Allen's flower beds?!?!?!?
teblin Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I didn't want megson. But now he's here lets back him. rember a certain Martin o'neill getting booed and demonstrated against? Oneill also fell out with board members, and played fairly negative football. Don't get me wrong oneill is and was a legend. Just shows that we know nothing about appointing managers really. Let get behind Megson and get promoted!!!
Chelve84 Posted 13 September 2007 Author Posted 13 September 2007 people keep saying he isn't the best out there that we could have gone for! but im not sure who else would have been diving at the chance to come here. i dont think the Keegan rumour had any truth and i very much doubt Jewell would have wanted to come here.
Tevez Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I think its a good move by Milan. Let's not hope Mandaric stops who he wants to sign.
dandannieldanok Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Yes, why not, Megson has a decent record and he has the desire.
Blue Bob Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Listening to his interview on SSN it sounds like he was given a tough time at Forest and every interview since the Forest Chairman has tried to put the boot in. Nice!! Nothing like being bitter. I would have loved Jewell, but he clearly didnt want us; there are others on the 1st choice list who didnt want us either - I am sure working for MM put them off. So when you look at the 2nd choice list he is not a bad choice. He has the experience, he has got 2 promotions under his belt (also 2 relegations - but they will have been good experience for him) we have got him so lets see what he can do.
l444ry Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Stop keep bleating on that we have to support Megson. That goes without saying and everyone, to a degree, will do just that. But back to the question. Given that Mandaric has only got his managerial appointments right once in thirteen attempts......it's highly likely he's got this one wrong as well. When Mandaric came many people kept on about how City would benefit from his extensive "contacts" for players. Well that myth has been well and truly exploded already. It's no wonder he keeps falling out with his managers, foisting these donkeys on them. It is now clear that his managerial contacts are no better either. He's all smoke and mirrors!! As supporters we have to hope he stumbles upon a decent manager just like McLaren stumbled upon a decent England side due to injuries. In other words, lightning has to strike twice...................dream on folks.
Geo V Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 He`s taking a huge risk thats for sure. He would have known Megsons previous clubs and I'm sure that he has people reading boards like this to see what the fans opinions are but it may be a move that pays off. As ridiculous as this sounds, it wouldn't surprise me if he plans to use Megson to somehow fight and steal our way to promotion and then get rid, much like what he did to Wortho where he got him in to save us from relegation. I think the fact that MM has cash makes the decision a decent one. If he fails, he`ll be gone for January. If he succeeds, then its job done and on to the next level. Its not an ideal appointment, far from it but its not a terrible one so lets see what Megson can do.
DB11 Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I'm not against it; my answer to the thread title is yes
Ajax Treesdown Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I think he is alright, lets give him a chance and stop f*****g moaning about the man. We are not a Prem team, so what does everyone expect???? Martin Allen was never the right man. Too outrageous for this level. Playing in the fooking woods.......
Joe. Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I'm slowly coming round to this appointment. At first I was pissed off but I've had more time to think about it and I don't think it'll be so bad ...
josh_baskin Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I was a little sceptical over his apointment initialy to be honest over his spell at forest but ive got so say i feel alot more positive regarding his appointment than i ever did with MA, already he's putting big emphasis on our huge fan base and how we have to utilize it to help get the results on the field.
Lillehamring Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 The jury is definitely out for me. Not the most inspirational choice but I guess he can only be judged on results. If we start making a push for the play-offs later in the season then it will be seen as a good choice, but given Mandaric's shotgun management style he's going to have to get off to a bloody good start. Thing that worries me the most is he lost the dressing room at Forest, which obviously means in more brutal terms he totally lost the respect of the players. Did a reasonable job at WBA but I'm surprised Mandaric didn't opt for somebody a bit more high profile.Maybe he did, but maybe they didn't want to come and work under a chairman who has already axed three manager's this year. Hardly job security is it? sensible post, but i think the forest thing is highly misleading, as peacefulred posted earlier, forest's crapness was down to the previous incumbent, by all accounts there wasn't much of a dressing room to lose... as the saying goes: you can't polish a turd. fact is, we have an increasingly tasty looking side for this division and a man who knows how to get a team winning. the important thing is that the players want to play for him, personally i think they will.
Pete_foxes Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 No not me m8. I think this was a shocking descision at the moment, if we do well then I certainly will eat my hat.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 So does Megson have 3 Years to get us up do you reckon? (Minus the first few months of this season.) I see a problem with aiming to go up this season - ok our squad is improved, but would need a complete revamp to challenge at Preimer League Level wouldn't it? A top half finish this season maybe better for us in the long run?
reynard Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Only time will tell. For me this is such a dissappointing appointment. How many managers have really suuccessfully come back from doing a completely crap job at their last club? He's been out of the game for nearly 2 years if he is so good then why has no other team appointed him? His style of football has to date been truly terrible. Do we have the type of players to play every single week for a 1-0 result? The football played under kelly and levein was awful but I fear this will be worse. I really hope he does well but at the moment the glass is more half empty than half full. We can lose to QPR but after that he will need quick wins to win over the fans. If we lose his first 5 games in charge (quite possible) then I think he will quickly lose the fans' support and his time will be short.
Bert Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Disapointing yes, but we're all just gonna have to accept it it. I don't think Smeg head will be in charge for Qpr. He'll have spent one full day with the players, whereas as Rudkin will have been there all week to get ideas across etc.
Raj Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Considering the other alleged applicants wh either turned us down or we didn't go for,i think it could have been alot worse. The positive points are that he HAS literally take a team up from this division. Hopefully he knows what is required and with MM he should get the financial backing(If he is still here for the January transfer window) I wont lose any sleep over Megson being the manager of LCFC. I would have if it was Peter Reid or a few other that were mentioned. Good luck to him
Daz.I Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I wasn't to happy at first but after looking into it , If he's good enough to get west brom promoted twice with the resources they had he can certainly do it here with MM
Chairman of the Bored Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Absolutely Megatastic. Go go Gary!
boneman Posted 14 September 2007 Posted 14 September 2007 I know there is a lot people against the appointment of Megson, But i think he could just be the man. I have a good feeling about it, i know people will be thinking he took forest down and he aint exactly a big name, but he is gonna sort us out i reckon, i think he'll be a success, if he is given the support and time.Any 1 else think this? Checked the stats... West Brom's 2003-2004 Season (Megson in charge) 1-0 wins (7) 2-0 wins (5) 3-0 wins (3) 4-0 wins (1) 2-1 wins (7) 3-1 wins (1) 4-1 wins (2) 3-2 wins (1) 4-3 wins (1) They did have 3 losses to finish the season, but overall I would say fair results , lets give the ginger a go
Aixelsyd Posted 14 September 2007 Posted 14 September 2007 I'm happy to have Megson in charge He should do us very well in this division over this AND NEXT season. He will not get us promoted this time around but as soon as he can get the squad to his wants etc MM will then sack him as soon as we are promoted and as then "Big Name Managers" will want to know us
eaststandtom Posted 14 September 2007 Posted 14 September 2007 I swear some people will want city to loose just so they can be justified in their hatred of Megson!Congrats to him, new job new start blah blah. Now beat QPR on saturday! maybe some people wanted warnock to join too so they could actually go through the futile process of taking their season tickets back the borg
