Neil Clement

As the transfer talk forum has disappeared, I suppose we're back to suggesting players in the LCFC forum.

I'd like to propose a discussion on Neil Clement. We need a left back as Clarke's career is possibly in the balance. Mattock might not be ready to be first choice yet and Sheehan isn't good enough for a team supposedly challenging for a top 6 finish.

Megson had a massive effect on the success Clement had at West Brom and I think under him at Leicester, he'd regain his form. A few seasons ago, Clement was superb. I even thought at one point he'd get near the England team.

He's available on loan, QPR are sniffing round.

I think it would be a decent signing.

Saw that this morning and thought exactly the same.

Someone to take the free kicks too.

However, if Clement and Clemence both go for the same ball and call for it, by the time the team have convened in the centre circle to work out whether the call was "Clement's ball" or "Clemence's ball", we'll be 6-0 down.

Sheehan as far as I can see is the only City player with over a dozen games to his name whose record - had all his first team League and Cup matches been played for points - would have put us in the top six. What's he had this season? Two wins, two draws (at difficult places), one goal and one assist in four outings. As much as Nils managed all last season from memory. And our defence has conceded under a goal a game when he's played.

Only three months ago almost everyone was clamouring for Mattock to be our left-back and that only emphasises the strange disregard for Sheehan who's record is better, who carries a greater attacking threat and has gnerally had the more effect of the two both in competitive games and pre-season friendlies this season. Has Mattock had a single assist either this season or last?. I'll stand corrected but I cannot remember one.

I honestly believe Sheehan would benefit from the fans showing some faith in him.

Clement is a good player but I am rarely happy with loanees for various reasons. However we do another left-back because Mattock would probably benefit from playing this season in the Reserves and/or going out on loan.

Mattock looked impressive at left wing at the back end of last season maybe playing him there would be best for now whilst in the 1st team

Definately agree.

He'll want to bring some people in, it'll warm the fans up too.

He's rubbish. The fact that he's coinsidently been in a reasonably succesful team shouldn't mean he gets picked, Alan Rogers was part of a very succesful team but he was rubbish.

But he didn't score or make goals there either.

Seriously, for whatever reason, Mattock has not justified a place in the first team this season and even his performances in the reserves have been no more than ordinary.

This quite often happens when a youngster - he's only 17 - makes a breakthrough earlier than expected. Mattock should end up a good player. But give him time.

Clement is steady, not bad but nothing to write home about.

Would represent an improvement over Sheehan or Mattock but I don't know that it would benefit us long term as we really want at least one of those 2 to continue their development.

In Sheehan's case though, I believe it needs a complete rework and overhaul of his defensive game. His tackling is rash, his marking is very slack and his positioning is woeful. And this is from someone who has only seen him about twice.

Nonsense - and Sheehan is nothing like Rogers. But you do stand as testimony to the problem Sheehan has.

Sheehan had an iffy game against Palace by all accounts. Did well enough against Plymouth making a couple of vital blocks, scored in a 4-1 win over League leaders Watford and was perfectly steady and made a goal and played as well as the rest against Accrington.

For anyone else - like Mattock, Clarke, Nils, Chambers, N'Gotty, Kenton, Kaebi - that level of performance would be fine, and especially considering the results. But not Sheehan.

With Sheehan there's the feeling it's "one bad game and your out" in people's minds but, with everyone else, the view is that "everyone has the odd bad game" and the point has been emphasised time and again.

I have long felt Sheehan is the kind of attacking full-back we need, just like Chambers/Kaebi on the right. I've shared your concerns about his defending at times but since his first game of the close season against Quorn he's been as consistent as anyone.

Thracian, that simply isn't true.

The above post is the post of a blinkered man who believes in conspiracy theories. All of them.

I was going to ask that! :D

I think clement would be a great signing for us... we need a player like him... and as already stated he has a great free kick on him... Only concern is would he regain that form....

I personally like to see us sign isiah osbourne from aston villa on loan to add height into the central midfield area and scott sinclair on loan from chelsea. Also both could be potential permanant signings if we were to go up due to the competition at there current clubs which would be great.

Who would you drop Clemence or Weso, as far as I can see two of our better players?
