Simi Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Boss Gives Frank AssessmentPosted on: Sat 15 Sep 2007 Leicester City manager Gary Megson gave an honest and frank assessment of his side's performance following their 1-1 draw with QPR at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday. Megson, who only took over as boss on Thursday afternoon, saw his side take the lead through an Iain Hume penalty on 63 minutes - only for the visitors to equalise with just 10 minutes of the game remaining. And speaking afterwards, Megson admitted that although he could not fault the desire of his players, he had been left disappointed by their inability to keep the lead on the day. He said: "I don't think we could have done much better in terms of the effort, work and application that we put in today. "But some of the decisions and the intelligence that we showed after we scored needs to be worked on. "We did everything right to take the lead, but when we did that it was as if someone had written another script. We did some crazy things after that. "I thought that we did really well in the first half, but for the first 25 minutes of the second half I thought that we did even better. We were passing the ball well and causing them a lot of problems. "But we made some silly decisions - both individually and collectively. It just seemed as soon as we scored that we thought that was enough. There has got to be a realisation that once you score against the opposition they are quite naturally going to try and come back and equalise. "QPR defended pretty well, but we let them off. The amount of chances we had was incredible. "There were a lot of young players out there who are good players, but they don't know the game. They don't know how to go and win. This club has been flirting with relegation for the last four seasons. What we have got to do is get a team out there that knows how to win. "Once they scored a few heads went down and one or two people felt a bit sorry for themselves. In the end it wouldn't have been beyond the realms of reason that they could have beaten us because they had some really good chances late on." Megson also hinted that he may take the opportunity to bring some fresh faces to the club. He added: "Even though the transfer window has closed you can still bring players in on loan. You can them maybe draw up an agreement to take the players permanently in January."
Mark Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 "We did everything right to take the lead, but when we did that it was as if someone had written another script. We did some crazy things after that. No one more so than yourself and those substitutions.
C-man Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 No one more so than yourself and those substitutions. They we're perfectly fine subsitutions. Porter was dreadful, and unfortunately Kishishev was worse! I thought the Chambers one was also sensible as it should have allowed Hume to get in the game more, shame we we're defending most of the time.
Master Fox Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 I can't stand the guy already! This is all to familiar.
Tevez Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Them Advertisements get on my nerves on the OS.
davieG Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 They were terrible substitutions and allowed their full backs to come forward at will when for 75 minutes Porter and Hume had kept them pegged back. If he'd have brought Newton instead they might have been acceptable but with 8 defensive palyers on the pitch they had a free hand at attacking us and that's what they did.
The Reverend Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 ****in hell. If he thinks we played at all well in that game he needs sacking now.
Simi Posted 15 September 2007 Author Posted 15 September 2007 It really does sound like he's trying to blame the team for his mistakes. It clears up why he bought on Kish for Levi, sounds like we're going to be going for experience.
TheBlinding Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Sounds like they're going to be dusting themselves down and will be back on the training ground on monday
Bluefoxtim Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 He had been left disappointed by their inability to keep the lead on the day. Your fault "But some of the decisions and the intelligence that we showed after we scored needs to be worked on. Master Fox Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Sounds like they're going to be dusting themselves down and will be back on the training ground on monday Re-doubling their efforts

I didn't see the match today, was it really the 'young players that don't know the game' that specifically let the team down today? We've already got a team that can play well against good teams-anyone who saw Watford knows that. It's ridiculous he's talking about bringing new players already-just do your job and motivate the players we already have. It's not like we have the tiny squad we had under Levein/Kelly, we have enough decent players to do well in this division.
Thracian Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 They we're perfectly fine subsitutions. Fine substitutions? They were ridiculous and cost us two points.
Flexx Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Fine substitutions? They were ridiculous and cost us two points. I agree, I wasn't at the game and I didn't listen to it, but against a team like QPR you have to keep attacking and try and get more goals. There's no point in sitting back - it just invites pressure and you always know we will concede. But let's give him some time, this is his first game in charge for 18 months.
Unabomber Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 No one more so than yourself and those substitutions. Exactly I heard him say that on the radio. He was saying how something happened after we scored and then it all fell apart. I mean let's think what could it have been; perhaps bring on a DM and a RB for our two of our main sources of pace, and for our one wide player.
Brainy Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 But let's give him some time, this is his first game in charge for 18 months. I dont really see why this matters.
Knighton Matt Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 ****in hell.If he thinks we played at all well in that game he needs sacking now. Spot on.
Daggers Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 I agree, I wasn't at the game and I didn't listen to it... That's what I like about this forum - informed debate
Flexx Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 I dont really see why this matters. It takes time to get into it again. He needs time to settle in, and nerves could have also played a part
Dames Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Prepare for another season of 'Experience'. I'm sick of 'Experience' where has it got us ? It got us relegated from the Premiership. Its so nearly got us relegated from the Championship twice. We need young and hungry, not Leveins young scottish and not so hungry.
l444ry Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Easily the best assessment of City's predicament I've heard from any manager since Martin O'Neill. Whether Megson has the answers remains to be seen but the point about knowing how to win is music to my ears.

Yes he'll need to learn that very quickly because it sure aint done by having 8 defensive players on the pitch.
Yaxx Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Easily the best assessment of City's predicament I've heard from any manager since Martin O'Neill. WTF??
chesterfox Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 i REMEMBER now why I disliked Megson at West Brom - I am a believer of keeping all critisicm in house and he was constantly blaming his players which might have a short term effect but eventually willl only turn them against him. As an aside - in charge or not - he needs to take some responsibilty and I know many are already past this point BUT what do you think MA would have done?? Compare how they came out second half v Watford at 1-0 to what they did today at 1-0??????? Prove me wrong SMEG but can't see it myself
C-man Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Fine substitutions? They were ridiculous and cost us two points. No, what cost us two points is 3 midfielders running past the ball trying to attack, leaving no-one goal side but the defense allowing Leigertwood to pick his spot and grab a point for Rangers. Or maybe I imagined all of that? I'm not saying sit back and invite pressure but we we're comfortably defending our lead until that one mistake where we were caught up field and then we capitulated. It was a quality shot and if it went wide we'd be sitting here in 5th place, and many on here would be saying how great it was to win 1-0. Oh, and, I would have made exactly the same substitutions, except I would have brought de Vries on for Cort just after we scored.
