Fez of Mahrez Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Seeing the French and Irish rugby union players belt out their respective anthems, some in tears, has moved me sufficiently to create this topic. Personally I think there is no finer sound in world sport than that of the Welsh national anthem prior to Six Nations games in Cardiff. And the English national anthem should not be God Save The Queen. Thoughts?
Milky Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Our anthem is a bit too religious for my liking.
Raj Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 OUR ANTHEM SHOULD BE- DU DU DU DU...THE QUEEENIE DU DU DU DU... THE QUEEENIE... Ala Matty Fryatt!

Guest Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 And the English national anthem should not be God Save The Queen.Thoughts? Land of Hope and Glory. To be serious.
Smudge Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Land of Hope and Glory. To be serious. I actually thought that was what was sung at Twickenham, mind you I haven't been near or by the place since about 1984. "Bread of Heaven" at Cardiff Arms Park was a sound to behold.

stez Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 i've never liked the british national anthem god save the queen, and fvck off the rest of you. i've also never liked the fact that the english use it.
purpleronnie Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 French anthem is the best. Couldn't careless about what englands is.
Finnegan Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Without wanting to sound too bias, we DO have the best anthem in Europe. By a long way. It's just so genius for sports. Ireland's call is pretty good, as modern anthems go - far better than Flower of Scotland. Hearing that at Croke before the paddies shagged you lot last year honestly brought a tear near my eye.
Hullfox Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Personally I think there is no finer sound in world sport than that of the Welsh national anthem prior to Six Nations games in Cardiff. Agreed

Vacamion Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 "Hole in the ground" by Bernard Cribbins would be a cheery national anthem. Either that or make it an instrumental - the Birdy Song.... Instead of singing passionately, people could just do the Birdy Song dance to show they love our country.
