teblin Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 Leicester City are after Chelsea full-back Ryan Bertrand, currently on loan at Oldham. (Daily Mirror)
Shit_arse Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 Great news. Get him involved. We need a good blend of Youth and experience.
brookfox Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 Wasn't he one of the three players sent home from U19 duty? Sounds like he'll bring a good professional approach to our own youngsters!
majestic fox Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 get him in, although if hes currently on loan oldham, we would have to wait until his loan deal expires
Head Honcho Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 He's not exacly setting Oldham alight is he? Admittedly not all his fault but 15 goals conceded in his 8 games for The Latics in L1. Anyone care to tell me what benefits would we get out of this deal as I'm stuck here? I know he's a youngster and one for the future but surely we should be looking for experienced players on loan

Bit hard on the lad to take stats like that and conclude that he's no good, Oldham prehaps but him as an invidual. Team stats prove nothing. He could be their one stand out player. Unfortunatley I've hardly seen Oldham this season so I don't know.

I know he's a youngster and one for the future but surely we should be looking for experienced players on loan well it didnt exactly say it would be on loan... i douibt it would be permanent but maybe they want rid if he was sent home from the u19 tournament. 'tarnished the chelsea reputation' maybe..

Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 We've seen some decent performances from Mattock and Sheehan lately but Megson will still be having nightmares about both their efforts at Charlton. Another left wing-back wouldn't hurt. Open mind.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 Oh and I'm going to call him Plastic by the way.
Dames Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 We've yet to see any of the other rumours materialise so i think this is just paper talk.
Head Honcho Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 I was being sarcastic. The comment wasn't directed at you mate. I don't need the roll-eyes to know when you're being sarcastic I'm not saying he isn't or couldn't be a good player MP but we have enough youngsters at the club without having to nurse some of Chelsea's. I just wish people(not you obviously) would think a bit more before saying "great news" and "get him in"!
Blue Fox Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 Isn't Mattock a left back and currently playing for the England U19s, surely if we need a left wing/back we'd be after someone more experienced. Unless of course we're planning to sell Mattock!!!

Another left wing-back wouldn't hurt. Open mind. Megson loves Mattock. Sheehan he probably still isn't that impressed by, as you say he was a horror show at Charlton. Mattock has proved that was a blip from him, Sheehan did well against Sheff Wed but i'm sure Megson doesn't get easily won over by a couple of pearling corners.

Ric Flair Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 no but by same extent i doubt he has written him off after 1 terrible performance Of course not, but he was completely dropped from the squad for 3 games after it. Perhaps it taught Sheehan a lesson because he was very effective up at Hillsborough from what I gather.

Mattock has proved that was a blip from him, Sheehan did well against Sheff Wed but i'm sure Megson doesn't get easily won over by a couple of pearling corners. Megson probably knows that MM loves Mattock. How conventiently you forget Mattock's "blip" against Blackpool too. Add two goals and another assist to the corners of Shehan - plus another free kick he almost scored from and the inch-perfect chance created for Campbell and put them alongside all the chances Mattock's created and all the goals he's scored. There's no argument that I can see. I think Mattock's a good player but if the stats were reversed there wouldn't be a single voice for Sheehan.
scinnell Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 i neva heard of him. but if he is from chelsea he muss be good. but i have a sneaky feeling he wont be good

jonw88 Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 I don't see the point of getting another young left back in. Sheehan and Mattock are probably just as good if not better, we need some regularity in that position rather than getting someone else and rotating them around even more. Go away Chelsea scum.
Mark Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 He played ahead of Mattock at left back in Englands game on Friday before he was sent home. It's no harm getting an Eng U19 player in, but permanently. If it's a loan it doesn't make alot of sense when we've Sheehan & Mattock.
MPH Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 I was being sarcastic. i wasnt saying anyithing in my post other than pointing out that the original post doesnt mention we were after him for loan. maybe we are, but it didnt actually say that so i guess that leaves it as a possibility for a permanent deal..
Ultra Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 From the Daily Mirror.. Foxes in hunt for Bertrand16/10/2007 Leicester City are chasing Chelsea's young left-back Ryan Bertrand - currently starring for Oldham on loan. Boss Gary Megson has sent his scouts to check on Bertrand and may ask to take him if the Stamford Bridge outfit want to test the defender at a higher level on his next spell away from them. Bertrand is highly rated at Chelsea and was in the England under-19 squad until he was sent home for breaking a curfew. Oldham have taken Bertrand, who has also had a spell on loan at Bournemouth, for a stint, but Leicester could step in and offer him a home shortly too Not sure how much substance there is in this story, even if Mandaric is a mate of Avram Grant. Anyway, with Ashley Cole out for three months, Bertrand may be on his way back to the bridge, maybe even to play against us.
