Manager Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Professional display, but typical of a squad in transition. Missing a leader who will control the flow of the game (Is Lampard available??) Fulop - 6.5 (By his high standards a quiet day) Stearman - 4 (Needs a run in the reserves to restore confidence) Kisnorbo - 6.5 (Solid if not spectacular) McAuley - 7 (Offered something going forward) N'Gotty - 6.5 (Wasted his big chance) Sheehan - 7 (Against their best player but grew into the game) Kenton - 5 (Huffed and puffed without much result) Chambers - 5.5 (Should be restored to his proper position) Fryatt - 7 (Adapted well to his new role - deserved MOM) John - 7 (Typical goal poacher - will not offer much otherwise) Campbell - 6.5 (Competent - has more to offer) Subs: Newton - 5 (Never going to be a match winner) Cort - 6 (Gave us another option when we were chasing a win) Burrows/Taggart - 6 (Will not get the permanent job but I hope we keep Taggs) Summary: A point earned, but following Wed night they should have kicked on for a win against inferior opposition.
Boycie Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Fulop 7 - Sign him permanent Kisnorbo 6 - Looked nervy at times N'Gotty 6 - Good in the air, but conceded needless free kicks Mcauley 7 - Solid Game Steaman 5 - Poor defencivley, not bad going forward Sheehan 8 - MOM in my opinion, very good defending and going forward Chambers 6 - Solid Game Kenton 7 - Brilliant in the midfield dictated play Fryatt 6 - Ran his heart out and created chances John 7 - Made things happen upfront Campbell 6 - Ran well, needed 90 minutes Subs: Cort 5 - Won things in the air, lazy at times Newton 4- Disappointing
Thracian Posted 4 November 2007 Author Posted 4 November 2007 There's certainly a wide difference of opinion about Sheehan with two posters having him MoM and others like Anish complaining about his defending and about the standard of his set pieces. First his set pieces. It's true they weren't as good as usual overall but they still caused serious problems at times. Compare the times Sheehan put the ball into the box compared with Stearman. The point is that Sheehan was always TRYING to make something happen. He had special problems today in that he was up against their most dangerous and in-form attacker, and had no genuinely creative/pass-and-run midfielders to give him alternatives. He almost had to flight balls into the box. Nevertheless he made an outstanding chance for Cort, was involved in one of our best moves from which somehow wriggled his way clear for a shot which was goalbound but for a defender's interception, three or four other corners had to be well defended, he had his free-kick at the finish which was pretty close and a fairly decent swerving shot at the end of the first half which fizzed over the bar. Altogether seven or eight specific contributions that might have produced a goal. None of our full-backs have been anything like so dangerous in recent seasons? Defensively he started shakily - and I imagine any full-back would have had trouble with Yeates early on. He's been on fire this season and a handful for lots of teams but he didn't actually go past Sheehan very often and second half the winger faded almost to insignificance. In fact I had Sheehan as our best defender second half with several timely headers, two or three last ditch clearances and one vital tackle on the edge of the box. Once again, against a team generally considered dangerous in attack, Sheehan played his part in restricting Colchester to one goal and precious few clear chances and maintaining our reputation for conceding very little. No he wasn't flawless. But he kept trying to make a difference, trying to somehow forge a goal.
Bert Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 In all fairness to Sheehan today his run-ups to take corners were very limited today. For some reason i felt we were always going to do something when he was on the ball, maybe Thracian had brainwashed me, i don't know but i certainly thought that.

It was like a obstacle course around the corner flag with microphones and all sorts. Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong but someone on TB reckons he'll be suspended for the next match with that booking today.
ASH17LCFC Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Was it me or did Sheehan keep falling over first half and at one point ... A U's player fell over and then he ran to get the ball and he FELL OVER !!! Still the lad is alright much better then Stearman
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Was it me or did Sheehan keep falling over first half and at one point ... A U's player fell over and then he ran to get the ball and he FELL OVER !!! Still the lad is alright much better then Stearman Yeah Sheehan got a card cos he fell over and tug the u's player shirt to get back in to it. Stearman is shite there were a couple of times when he good have laid the ball off but would get tackled just generally pissed me off. Back 3 were very solid, Fryatt consistent threat but would be frustrating when tried to do too much. I liked Kenton's game occasionally showed a bit of spark to get the ball moving forward when everyone else was playing a long ball
Manwell Pablo Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 (Drunk talk) Before I say anything else, it's a good point for us today in the grand scheme of things, I hope to re address this point at the end of this post. The following us what I would of typed 6 months ago if I didn't have to make all of my posts idoit proof. would also like to make clear that this is a one match analysis. I don't wish to be reminded of previous matches, I am comenting on this one. Some major faults from us today, and a serious head in sand approach from certain supporters. I disagree with player ratings for one reason, and thats that certain players get an easy ride depending on their status at the club. For me, the prime example today is Marton Fulop. The bloke has been a revelation for us this season, and has made some fantastic saves, but Johnathen "definition of a Spurs reject" Jackson(s)" header should of been put past the post, better technique would of seen that header past the post, and I see no point in giving him 7/10 marks when he could of stopped us from losing. Especially when he's only other save was a from a shot that, to be honest , shouldn't beat any goalkeeper who takes home a wage packet at any level. for me Stearman had a 6/5 game, he was pretty off the touch but he had to work hard and he did so much more so than Sheehan from open play far. The lads set pieces are fantastic but from open play, he's one of the players that I feel are holding us back. I think it's time for Sean Newton to hang up his boots. He's been shit, no, utter shit, since the Forest game and the blokes clearly not a central midfield option, and when I say this, I'm quite sure that any member of this board will back me up, Hellings, King, Kaebi, the for some reasoned loaned out to fuk wit Cockney dick face Kishishev, and my great, great, great auns dercreped fuking corpse would do a better job than him in central midfield. DJ, actually looked like a 7 figure player for 40 minutes, after which, he looked like a Yeading box packer who's working the last hour of his 12pm-12am shift. I've seen nothing to suggest that Carl Cort is a improvement on Mark De Vries. Impessed by Fryatt, but I'm left wishng he had pace. Collins John will score in excess of 15 goals a season in this divsion if given enough starts. (/drunk talk)
teblin Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Fulup 6 Mcauley 7 solid N'gotty 7 solid kisnorbo 7 solid Sheehan 6 Stearman 6 Kenton 7 (though he did his job, give the ball away less than chanbers too) Chamber 6 ( energy and drive but give the ball away too much) Fryatt 7 (skill, driving runs from deep, impressed) Dj 7 (looked decent) John 7 (scored agint can't ask for more than that)

Raikkonen Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Fulop 7 mcauley 6 N'Gotty - 6 Kissa - 6- Sheehan - 5 Stearman - 4 - Chambers - 6 Kenton - 5- Fryatt - 6.5 - DJ - 6 Collins John - 6 Subs cort - 6 Newton - 1 (crap)
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Until their goal we actually looked extremely lively going forward and I haven't seen quick, counter-attacking play like that from a Leicester side for a long time, it was refreshing to watch particularly coming off the back of a tiring game at Chelsea. We were totally devoid of options in midfield and to slate either Kenton or Chambers for their contribution yesterday is again naive. I thought both had solid games given the workload they had. I think Burrows and Taggart looked at it and wanted our two most energetic available players in that midfield given Clemence, Wesolowski, King and Hume were all out. I was fairly impressed with Sheehan again. His defending is getting better and I don't think his set piece delivery was poor at all yesterday. I don't think there's a hell of a lot between him and Stearman but I thought Stearman had a shocker and he hasn't got that set piece ability to bail him out. I think that display demonstrated just why people have been clamouring to see what Kaebi is like. Moving forward we have another tough game on Tuesday night and you have to wonder how fit we're going to look. We've had two very tiring games in a short space of time and I can't help thinking that it's time for a lacklustre 2-0 defeat and the moaning will start on here. There's nothing you can do to stop it as people seem to think we have a god-given right to win every single game but please take into account the injuries, possible suspensions and the exertions of the Chelsea and Colchester games. A game in two days time at a long-haul away ground is the last thing we need right now and I think it'll signal the death knell for Burrows and Taggart's chances of getting the job full-time.

ithuriel Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 with stearman i wonder what has happened to the promising player that first broke into the first team all those seasons ago? is it booze or is he an emotionless pod person

Luckily (in a way) for Burrows & Tags there fate is already determined & the outcome of tuesdays game which as i understand will be there last providing all goes to plan has no bearing on it

Sound analysis. I'd quite like to suggest an alternative to Stearman at the moment but Chambers is badly needed in midfield and Kaebi honestly isn't the answer as a right back. If he's 100% fit which is doubtful I might consider Kaebi for right midfield given the disappointing form of Newton but with Hume set to return I doubt there'll be a vacancy. And if I had to take a risk at right midfield I'd sooner go with Ashley Chambers anyway. Or Eric Odhiambo now he's back from Southend. Whatever happens the Preston trip will be a big test in the circumstances.
Brainy Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Why are we giving Newton 3's and 4's? He was on the pitch barely 5 mins and somebody even said he had a "very very very off day". Im not his biggest fan but somebody like Newton cannot change the game in such short time.

Im not his biggest fan but somebody like Newton cannot change the game in such short time. He might not be able to change the game in 10 minutes, but he could pass to his own players. He could also make better decisions in terms of his movement, his crossing, the timing of his passing etc - all of which were woeful. His 10 minute cameo was pathetic hence the 3s and 4s.

Because going to games and watching him misplace simple passes, not close anything down, not provide us anything is becoming really ****ing annoying.
SamL Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Because going to games and watching him misplace simple passes, not close anything down, not provide us anything is becoming really ****ing annoying. True. Spending money to watch people like him is very annoying. He was awful
ousefox Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Fulop 7 - Brillian catching unlucky with goal. Stearman 6 - Better thnah usual still crap. McAuley 8 - Solid. N'Gotty 8- Solid . Kisnorbo 8 - Solid . Sheehan 8 - Good set plays looked a threat at times. Kenton 7 - Did well and made some decent runs for a player playing out of position. Chambers 6 He was OK Fryatt 7 - Didn't do to much but when he had his chances he was unlucky that he didn't get a goal. John 7 - Did well should not have been taken off. Campbell 7 Worked very hard but didn't do much. Subs: Cort 5 - Crap didn't do anything Newton 5 - Awful no wonder West Ham wanted rid. Burrows/Taggart 6 - Should have won the game.

Im not his biggest fan but somebody like Newton cannot change the game in such short time. The mark I gave him reflected what he did during the time he was on the field. And it is hard to think of anything praiseworthy. On one occasion taking the ball on the right he tried to push it past the defender into what would have been a goalmaking position but simply lacked anything like the acceleration needed. Other times he lost control of the ball, couldn't deliver a simple pass or simply chose the wrong option. Frankly he looked tired - not as a person but as a footballer. I wish it were otherwise. With Gradel gone for no-one knows how long and no obvious candidates on the right I'd would welcome the sight of an in-form Newton. But the only good game I've seen him play this season was for the Reserves. He may just be rusty but I suspect not.

As davieG says Fezzler, it is indeed a good post but personally I was not impressed with Sheehan. I asked a friend who has never seen him play to watch him on TV from a neutral's perspective and he backed up my own thoughts that along with Stearman he was a weakness. He said that it's alright praising him for near assists etc but when he takes the bulk of free kicks and corners, he's likely to get that sort of recognition. Having said that, corners were often delivered short and, defensively he was found wanting on too many occasions. His booking was because he was made to look stupid. The overall view was that Sheehan would not be in his starting 11 if he were looking for a team that could gain promotion. In fairness though he could not say whether he liked anyone else that played because of his continuous looking out for Sheehan.

Try it sometime with the biggest name players in the Prem (or anywher else) - you will be surprised how CRAP they are by this standard! If this amounts to independent analysis pleeeeze do not apply for the vacant manager position (and discourage your friend too!) Give this guy a break - a dozen games in 2 years - 4 official assists - 2 goals from LB - 5/6 yellow cards (committment) - stayed with us to FIGHT when he could have gone on loan - we need 11 like him! Think I am with Tracian on this! Don't know how to do quotes - sorry!
