Kaebi Farts!

If I hear any more about Kaebi in the World Cup I'll explode. It's ancient history and has been commented on endlessly.

Get focused on Kaebi's performance in the much more recent Asian Cup cos I can't remember his making any significant contribution at all, or his team doing very well although I'll bow to anything Manwell might dig up on his behalf.

Of the people you referred to only one, Chambers, was competing for a vacancy on the right wing and Chambers got the nod simply because he was at the club and Gradel was on loan at Bournemouth.

No-one would sensibly choose Chambers as a right winger over Gradel and if you doubt me look at the Academy games in the last two seasons.

Chambers' appearances were much limited by knee injuries but when he was fully fit I cannot recall him ever being preferred to Gradel on the right.

Perhaps most notable was the play-offs final when Chambers was a substitute as Gradel started on the right and was arguably City's Man of the Match.

Chambers was mostly played elsewhere in attack to right wing because the team would never willingly wish to do without Gradel. Or anyone who returned upwards of 16 goals a season consistently playing exclusively out wide.

He hardly played, when he did he was garbage.

Iran were hardly great in general tbh.

I think this is the article you've been looking for Thracian, backs up your judgement about how good Kaebi potentially could be. I wish everyone else would recognise how good little Hossein is, i'm sick and tired of it having to be you who champions the inclusion of wonderkids like Kaebi in to the first team. I've been frantically searching for articles on Dodds and Gradel and proof they they too have played over 50 times for their country already, but I think google is playing up.

Player to Watch: Little Kaebi walks tall for Iran

12 January 2005

by FIFAworldcup.com

It is no secret that teenage sensation Hossein Kaebi is pulling his weight for Branko Ivankovic’s Iranian national team. One of his boss’ favourites, the diminutive, 1.74-meter tall defender, is one of the planet’s fastest footballers. When asked how fast he could complete the 100-metre dash, he told FIFAworldcup.com proudly, “I think I can do it in under 10 seconds!”

Called into the national team at 17, it was always going to be a tough ask for the teenager to earn a regular place among Iran’s many stars. However, Kaebi did a sparkling job with both Iran’s senior and under-23 national teams in 2004, repaying Ivankovic’s faith. Now, with only one month to go before the Asian Zone’s final round of qualifying for 2006 Germany, the 19-year-old’s next goal is “a place at the finals.”

Fleet of foot, mind

In Team Melli’s 4-2-3-1 formation, Kaebi has been appointed starting right back by coach Ivankovic in order to shore up the defence alongside 34-year-old Yahva Golmohammadi, Italy-based Rahman Razaei and Ali Badavi. Though this might seem a stressful task for the young featherweight, who scales in at only 65 kg, the Foulad starlet has proven himself ferocious in the tackle and willing to battle for every ball.

“He (Hossein) is a very reliable player and he has good strength and speed despite his small stature,” said his Foulad club and national teammate Eman Mobali. “The amazing thing is that he combines tough tackling and quick reactions perfectly.”

Kaebi has proven himself a trusted defender, earning the respect of his more-established teammates. But Ivankovic is eager for more from the youngster than his current role as speedy utility man.

The attack-minded and mercurial teenager is a real nightmare for opposition players. His speed and shrewd reactions help him pull off moments of wonderful improvisation and invention - with his assist to Ali Karimi to open scoring against Korea Republic in a recent Asian Cup qualifier the most exciting to date.

He came on in the 10th minute in a lull in the Taeguk Warriors’ previously consistent attack. Mehdi Mahdavakia’s long ball seemed a bit too long, but Kaebi turned on the jets to chase it down the right flank and hook it back from the byline, perfectly picking out Karimi who glanced his header into the Korean net.

“I know some people are suspicious of my small physique…I am not that tall or strong, but it also gives me better speed and quicker reactions. Football needs all types of players and I believe my style can help the team,” Kaebi recently told FIFAworldcup.com.

Keeping a cool head

“He is very intelligent and clever and he can play in many positions,” added Eman Mobali. Kaebi proved Mobali spot-on in Iran’s 3-0 victory over New Zealand in the AFC/OFC Challenge Cup in 2003. In the 67th minute, up 2-0, Kaebi put the icing on the cake with a typically rampaging run down the right flank and a delicate flick just inside the near post.

At the start of the 2004 Asian Cup, Kaebi told FIFAworldup.com he was fighting for a regular place in the team. Now, five months on with Team Melli ready to vie for at Germany 2006 in Group B against Japan, Bahrain and Korea DPR, he has established himself a regular starter.

“I have improved a lot under coach Ivankovic and gained tremendous experience,” the player said. “Of course I still need to get better though.”

A bright future

Kaebi’s ability and diligence are not only praised in Asian football circles, but the player has also raised the eyebrows of a few European club scouts. He traveled to England in 2003 for a three-week trial with then Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers. The trip boosted his confidence, moving him one step closer to following in the footsteps of his idol and national teammate Ali Daei.

“It would be nice to have a chance to play with a top European club,” the player said. “That way I will quickly improve my skills, mentality and experience as well…but I know I am still young and I need to continue to work hard for that dream to come true.”

You don't seem to understand Ric, he wasn't PROVEN himself in the ALL MIGHTY and CONQUERING reserve team.

Aaah I see, I forgot that's where all the greats have proven themselves before they've gone on to a successful career. I'm sure Little Hossein had a blistering career in reserve football when he was 12 and well on his way to his first team debut.

You can just sense that Thracian is hoping that Kaebi fails in establishing himself here. I suppose i'd be the same should Elvis ever establish himself here after all the abuse i've written about him. But then again, that's deserved. I'm sure had he got 50 caps for Ghana, Thracian would have been first to include that in his backing up of ELV18.

Yeah but that's only because of his (ankle), (attitude) and (being sh it) problems.

Did Sheehan make any impact in this tournament? I 'hink not.

Thats about as good as "Elvis scores more goals than a right back argument"

We all know Kaebi is a bright talent and probably better than half of our squad.

Thracian thinks differantly to everyone else which has been proven on more occasions than not. I don't know if he does it to wind people up or thats just his way of thinking (Seriously you must be a bit mental to call for Elvis's constant inclusion and even try to compare his scoring 'exploits' against that of a Right back) but its getting abit boring nonetheless.

The kids in the first team now and i hope he does well, adapts and becomes the player he should.

There have been funnier overall episodes but that scene in that episode was probably one of the funniest things i've ever seen. That and when Jimmy beats his mom and his girlfriend.

I'm still trying to work how the article equates with your assessment of Kaebi in the Asia Cup a few months back because you seem to be backing me and mocking me at the same time.

What did you say?

"He hardly played, when he did he was garbage.

Iran were hardly great in general tbh."

Pretty damning I'd say.

And then I put that comment alongside what I've personally seen over 10 matches this season.

And finally I consider that the report Ric refers to is almost exactly two years old and, even then, hardly suggests a guy who's in any way prolific or in any way warranting the sort of hype he came here with.

I'm glad he found the background. At least it's something and to say I want him to fail is rather like saying I wouldn't vote in the FoxesTalk Awards for bosom buddies of TPH. The reality is totally different cos I'd pick my worst enemy over my son if I thought the team would be better.

I'm just not convinced about Kaebi. And nor was the Iranian manager either by the sounds of it.

I'm not convinced any more than I'm convinced that ANY of our Academy grauates will be wonderkids. People perpetrate these myths for their own reasons.

All I've ever claimed is that they were better than alternatives we've used. The same went for Hammond. I've had no reason to change my mind about those views and no reason to change my mind about Kaebi.

I've never wanted ill fortune for any of our players and especially Kaebi because, if he doesn't prove you people right and me wrong, it doesn't auger well for our season at all.

Well to be honest I'm doing neither, he played 45 minutes in the Asian Cup and I'm not going to judge him on that, he's played 10 games in our rag tag reserve side in order to gain some idea on what English football is like, and I'm not going to judge him on that either, he didn't do too badly against Ipswitch and may keep his place in the first team and thats where he will be judged by me.

Whether the lads had it bad over the past few months or not he has pedigree and you can't deny that.

And 100 meters in under 10 seconds is olympic pace.

Kaebi's not even being considered as a right back. He's being considered in right-sided attacking midfield - unless it's you that's the "mental" one.

And he was compared with Hammond because he too is basically a right-sided attacker. I've seen most of Hammond's first team games and I've seen both of them play for the reserves and it's no contest who I'd pick from the two.

Not that comparisons matter because Hammond is injured.

Wales is a country on par with Iran footballing wise i would imagine.

So how come Andy King who is 18/19 hasn't been capped by his country yet?

You (Thracian) make him out to be the best attacking midfielder in the division, he might have been like you say he is in reserves and the youth team but we haven't seen it in his appearances in the first team so far, besides that one wonder goal. So there goes your theory of having to prove yourself in the youth team and reserves first.

It doesn't matter how you perform in the reserves or youth team its the first team that counts.

Kaebi played all but one of his reserve games at right back or left back. He did himself no harm against Ipswich playing in that right attackers role.

Hammond played as a striker last season, It might have looked right attacker but they guy has no sense of positioning hence why he was caught offside so many times.

Your arguements are seriously flawed and rather desperate at times hence why Sheehan or Hammond always seem to get dragged in.

I don't care how many times officials ruled him offside Hammond's goals scored and created for both teams was pretty good compared with others.

Kaebi's role varied even within games and he was often used in right midfield for periods. At Stoke, for instance and against Wolves Reserves at Telford.

My arguments tell the truth of it instead of what you want to believe.

Whether you judge Kaebi as a full-back or as an attacking outside midfielder he still hasn't had the impact that others have.

Not by a long way.

That may change. But thus far it's no use shooting the messenger...

I asked you a question and you haven't answered it  ? I said why hasn't gradel made a first team appearance if he is so good? I know that he is out on loan but he wasn't out on loan last or the year before that when chambers made his first appearance?

We have struggled for a right midfielder the last couple of years and we have had to play maybury, hughes and others the right side so why hasn't Gradel made a firts team appearance? I think you must overrate him.

I can't understand why you would explode if you hear anymore about kaebi in the world cup! He played well, got recognised in europe for his performances, and european scouts were watching him. Also, the reason he did not do so well in the Asian Cup was because he came on as a sub once or twice! The reason he was on the bench is because, they had a change in management and kaebi did not like it as he loved Branko Ivankovic who gave him his debut at 16 and he said kaebi was one of his favourites, that is why kaebi and Ivankovic got on so well! Therefore, the new iranian coach did not play him and this upset the iranian fans. SO, that is the reason he did not make any significant contribution!

Gradel was two years younger when Chambers made his finger-flick appearance and, as I wasn't there I don't know whether Chambers was picked on the right wing anyway.

Many think it was just a publicity stunt but, whatever, he wasn't ready and neither was Gradel.

I and others have no idea why Gradel has never played for the first team - some mention his temperament but that's much over-stated.

Kelly played Maybury and Hughes because he wanted defensive midfielders - they were part of the hussling reinforcements he almost always used and which did much to leave us in the predicament for find ourselves in now.

They were also well paid seniors and managers are wary of using token-paid scholars ahead of well paid senior professionals. If you have any doubt about my point Josh Low and Momo Sylla were also used and to say they're as good as Gradel is to suggest a CZ is as good as a diamond. Sylla never scored for us in all the time he was here apart from once in a friendly I believe.

You say I overrate Gradel but how do you know to what extent I rate him?

I've just said that in my view he's a better winger than Kaebi, Chambers, Maybury, Sylla, Hughes, Low and I'd and Newton. I'm not sure that makes him anything special - just good enough for our team as it stands.

And that's not meant to sound overly critical of Maybury and Hughes. They weren't wingers anyway. Kelly just used em there.
