If you don't buy a ticket you don't win the lottery. Apart from offering the chance of a goal direct, rebounds and deflections come into it and having people who shoot on sight also makes defenders leave the penalty area and commit themselves to a block, thus creating a little more space and opportunity near to goal. Of course, to really benefit we'd need people prepared to gobble up the loose balls in that area from 6-18 yards and we don't seem to have them.
