Koke Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Not only is he a good footballer but also an intelligent man. A very nice interview in the Guardian with him where he tells us how it is and his disapproval of footballers' lifestyle in this day and age. "I don't own a car," said the 27-year-old. "I refuse to shell out the amount of money for a car that I should be worthy of having at this level. If I spent more than £10,000 on a car, if you could see where I came from, and you could see what my dad is driving around in and you could see my friends who I used to play football with driving around in their Sky vans, it just wouldn't be right. I'm no better than any of those."Some of those players were 10 times the player I was. I got lucky. If I went back into my neighbourhood in a Porsche or a Bentley there would be hell to pay. That's just cars. I have no jewellery. I don't wear any chains or any watches. I wear plain clothes, no logos. I don't have a boot deal - I refuse to have one. I am just happy going along and being me and I really don't want to be that fella what I see every day. I really want to avoid it." Dave Kitson talkes sense
filbertway Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 He's also a bit of a noob saying he couldn't give two fooks about the FA Cup. I thought him (Mr Non League) would appreciate more than msot in the prem.
Koke Posted 4 January 2008 Author Posted 4 January 2008 Yeah I thought that was bit out of order. He could have worded his statement differently.
Bryn Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 As long as he's investing a bit of money into something important I think he has every right to treat himself to a few expensive treats.
Nationwider Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Fair play to him for having a bit of humility as opposed to the Rio Ferdinand types. He was talking out of his arse about the FA Cup though.

Interesting how he refers to the way he was treated at Sainsbury's. Are managers actually trained to treat people like shit or is it simply part of the personality requirements of the job?
Asha Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Are managers actually trained to treat people like shit or is it simply part of the personality requirements of the job? I think with a lot of people, the power gets to their head. No employees will ever challenge them, they've got they're high paying job on the line.
LeeCovFox Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 he shouldnt have said Reading have no chance of winning the FA Cup. to be honest they have as god a chance as anyone outside of the top 4 (maybe 5 now?). Not really what Reading fans want to hear i'm sure. But other than that, talks a lot of sense for the gingerest footballer i've ever seen. Any one remember a lad called Paul Kerr who we had on laon in 1994/1995? was quite handy. I think it was Paul anyway. He was pretty ginger.

WetFlannel Posted 5 January 2008 Posted 5 January 2008 Bless him... It's whats on the inside that counts. Unless of course hes like a Jaffa Cake and has an orange centre
Nationwider Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 "I don't own a car..." Dave Kitson - honest, local-lad done good, "one of us" type, or hypocritical gobshite? Let the courts decide....
Asha Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 "I don't own a car..."Dave Kitson - honest, local-lad done good, "one of us" type, or hypocritical gobshite? Let the courts decide.... He can't do a breath test probably because his heads so far up his own arse there's no air
Bert Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 How the fook does he get about if he don't own a car?
Hugo Sanchez Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 How the fook does he get about if he don't own a car? Taxi
Bert Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Taxi Guess so, not as if he can't afford the fare. Maybe he's just failed his test too many times.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Guess so, not as if he can't afford the fare.Maybe he's just failed his test too many times. Could be all a lie and he really does have a Bentley and wears bling and his nicknamed Gin Star.

I just new this little news item would be posted in this topic rather than in a topic of its own. Quite an about turn in just six short days.
Guest Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 I know, when I read the thread title I thought someone was approving of drink driving
Ric Flair Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 He probably leases a car, loads of footballers do. I also don't see what the problem is on footballers living a luxurious lifestyle. What matters most is that they remain a little humble and take the time to be polite and genuine with other folk. If I were a footballer i'd have expensive cars, houses and clothes. I'd be an absolute cooont with my money, but i'd still make sure that I treated people with respect and took the time to interact with others.
The People's Hero Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 I'm as cynical as they come but can't help but think that this is a bit of stage managed bollocks.
Steven Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Could be all a lie and he really does have a Bentley and wears bling and his nicknamed Gin Star. :D
Tommy G Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 A wannabee Paul Scholes in terms of modesty. Then again scholsey wouldn't even do an interview. Scholes plays good footy and keeps his private life separate - but if you have the moeny then why not spend it. thats why he has an Audi S8. You cant take it with you can you?!
