shrek1970 Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Wonder if that actually means we want more for him, Or we actually want to keep him.. every player has his price!
Guest Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 IPSWICH Town have been rebuffed in their efforts to land Gareth McAuley from Leicester City. The Blues made a bid for the Northern Ireland defender earlier this week but the Foxes have told them he is not for sale. Town manager Jim Magilton is an admirer of both McAuley and his defensive partner Patrick Kisnorbo but knew he had no chance of landing the City skipper, so made a cheeky bid to try and sign the former Larne-born man who he knows from the Irish team. link:- http://www.eveningstar.co.uk/content/eveni...3A03%3A08%3A470 Is he thinking of making a bid for Clem on the sly?
morris1234 Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 http://www.eadt.co.uk/content/eadt/sport/s...3A00%3A37%3A410 IPSWICH Town boss Jim Magilton today confirmed that he has had a bid for Leicester City defender Gareth McAuley rejected. Magilton confirmed the move this morning while taking a break from preparing his side for tomorrow's Coca-Cola Championship match against fourth-placed Stoke City at Portman Road (kick off 3pm). Having also had a one million pound plus offer for Plymouth midfield player David Norris also refused, Magilton said: “There are one or two other things going on but we must learn to be patient. “I have watched Gareth play in the Northern Ireland side and have known him for a long while. “He can play as a central defender and I have seen him do well at right back. “We made a very good bid and we will be seeing over the weekend what our next step will be. “Both McAuley and Norris will make us a better team and they are both still in our thoughts.†Magilton confirmed that new club owner Marcus Evans is keeping a close touch on the January transfer window dealings. Magilton said: “I give my recommendations to him and he either backs me or not. “It is no different really to going to the board of directors as before. Mr Evans is involved but not in any other way than a club chairman would be.†Magilton is waiting on Owen Garvan who is still suffering from flu and Liam Trotter is suspended after being sent off last Saturday. Otherwise the Ipswich manager has a full squad to select from for the game against Stoke. Magilton added: “They are a very good side and will not be bullied. They have a great work ethic and a method of playing that suits their players. “And in striker Ricardo Fuller they have a real goal threat who we will have to watch. “When he was on loan at Ipswich I thought he was a nice lad who perhaps should have played more at a higher level.†Magilton is hoping that Stoke will have some of their focus aimed at next Tuesday's FA Cup replay against Newcastle. He is hoping that perhaps one or two will have a close eye on that game as they will all want to play at St James' Park, and if they do then he is hoping his players will take advantage of that. “It is another home game for us and we must get last Saturday's FA Cup defeat out of our system,†concluded Magilton.
breadandcheese Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 When will we learn to sell players at the right time? Not doing this has cost us over a million. Remember Maybury to Sunderland, we didn't take it, he will leave us on a free. Stephen Hughes had interest after his first year with us, could have sold him for some serious money, instead we virtually had to pay someone to take him away. We've had large interest for Stearman and Kisnorbo, let's hope we don't look back in hindsight. Now I'm not in to selling our best players, but we need to recognise whether some of these players have gone as far as they can with us. If they have, let's take the money and reinvest it. If we can get the reputed £1million for McAuley, let's do it and strengthen our defence. There are plenty of good defenders we can pick up for that money.
The People's Hero Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 If Magilton seriously bid £1million, then we SHOULD have taken it. Does anyone seriously think that's bad business or that losing him would actually weaken our defence? I'd prefer Bruno there anyway!

Geordie Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Sell the useless lump of turd. He has never been anything more than a League 2 player and if someone is interested let him go for free. Not so hot when Fulop wasn't around

Unfortunately some fans never want to sell. They'd rather accumulate more and more players and let the resulting discontent build up. And there seems to be much discontent at Leicester right now. But I don't think it's the Chosen Men under threat.
sotonfox Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Sell all the defence With our new all singing all dancing all attacking midfield and forwards we won't need one Fook it sell the keepers aswell!!

But I don't think it's the Chosen Men under threat. That's why we are ALL complaining about the ridiculous big squad we have and how we should really offload some players!!! You're so full of crap! You only use facts that suit you and your ridiculous arguments. You're like a politician for god sake!
The People's Hero Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Thracian, you're an idiot. If we get a good offer in for McAuley, we should get shot. If ANYONE wants the load we've told to piss off, or Elvis Hammond, they can have him. Ask Lincoln for a couple of grand for Louis Dodds. Job done. He's not going to get a go here, is he?

You're mumbling on again. I've already said we should take £1m for McAuley. I've also said Dodds won't get a go here, for better or worse. And Hammond doesn't show any signs of ever being fit again so there's not much point is discussing his merits as a footballer although you know, and I know that if he HAD been fit, he'd doubtless have scored more times than Fryatt had he played a similar number of games. You just can't cope with the idea. You've championed Fryatt for reasons only you could probably understand and the fact is he's continued to fall short.

Mort Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 N'Gotty, Kisnorbo, McAuley... all similar players, all much of a much-ness IMHO (although N'Gotty's passing can be far smarter than the others), as it is I wouldnt mind letting him go for the kind of money Ipswitch were offering, but to be frank our biggest need at the back is a CB will a bit of pace who can carry the game forward...
woznotwos Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 I like mcauley to be honest and wouldnt want to get rid unless price was very good and holloway had a replacement in mind that we could realistically sign. Not sure if we should be meddling to much with our centre backs. Still if its silly money!!!! .............balancing on fence................

FleckneyFox Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Magilton said on the Ipswich OS he could make an improved offer could be £1.5 mil we'll be laughing all the way to the bank with that. We could probably buy 2 better defenders than him for that.

Agree, can invest it back into a defender with a bit more pace... not saying i dont rate GM but we dont need three CB who are essentially so similar.
