Dr The Singh Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 McAuley is very average, 1 million would be good business!!!
eaststandtom Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 We have one of the tightest defences in the league, which McAuley has been one of the main players. To break this up would be madness. Our problem is midfield and going forward. Leave the defence alone for now ... I appreciate he is not premiership quality but we are not there yet so it is not an issue!!! as a 5 but its no coincidence we start shipping goals now we are back to 4-4-2
davieG Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 as a 5 but its no coincidence we start shipping goals now we are back to 4-4-2 A midfield that can hold and pass the ball could have a similar/better effect than a 5 man defence.
Blue Bob Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 A midfield that can hold and pass the ball could have a similar/better effect than a 5 man defence. The best form of defence is attack. If our midfield can hold onto the ball and can tackle and give supply to the forwards that will help the defence. If we have a good attacking style of play that will force the opposition to sit back instead of push forward. we have now strengthened the wingers and forwards, the key role is an attacking midfielder. The back line at this stage needs to be consistent especially with a new keeper on board. A million for McAuley is no big deal, we would have to spend that and more to replace him, so why bother??
Thracian Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I'd take £1m for him. We're having to supplement our defence far too much and Fez is quite right that we have too many sluggish players. Having both he and Kisnorbo as our last line makes it very risky for us to defend high and leaves us vulnerable when our wing backs go forward. If there's a fast replacement available or if we have to play N'Gotty/Stearman or Kisnorbo/Stearman I'll be perfectly happy. It would be a step forward in giving us football right through the side. At his best I thought McAuley could pass okay and was an added danger from attacking set pieces. But those aspects have diminished this season and I cannot see that either of the other pairings mentioned would be less of a goal threat at corners etc.
Jimmy Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 if we get offered a Million for him then it would be good business for an above average defender we got on a bosman
breadandcheese Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I've never thought McAuley and Kisnorbo are a good central defensive combination in a back four. Both decent players, but not a good combo together. If a sensible bid comes in, take it, as we simply can't accommodate both McAuley and Kisnorbo if playing 4-4-2. Maybe have a look at Anthony Gardner from Spurs. Would probably be available for £1.5 mill plus an add-on if promoted. At premiership level he is easily exposed but in our division, he would be fairly solid and has a bit of pace.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Snap their hands off..... Stick N'Gotty in his place. Everyones a winner.

If he was to leave Spurs, i would think teams like, Sunderland, Derby, Wigan, Reading and Middlesborough would go after him. Just my opinion!
Cal Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Too be honest Id accept anything reasonable for most of our squad at the moment.
The People's Hero Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 If we get £1million for him I suggest Messrs Holloway and Mandaric try their hand at entering the lucrative ice market in Eskimo-town.
morris1234 Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 If we get £1million for him I suggest Messrs Holloway and Mandaric try their hand at entering the lucrative ice market in Eskimo-town. slippery business that!
STUHILL Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 1 million!! Yes please, I don't think our defence is as strong as many people make out. We could buy very good championship quality defender for 1million, better than McAuley anway. Would only sell if had someone in mind though, maybe a talent from Hungary!! More the better
SamL Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 He's a good player but we really do need to inject some pace into our team, particularly in the defence. Mcauley isn't the slowest but he isn't the quickest either and has been out of sorts this season. Yes he's one of the better players in our team but if we got a million for him and spent it wisely then it would be a good bit of business from our point of view. How much did we buy him for, £250k?
Steven Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Reads the game better has better distrubution, better techincally, arguable as good as McAuley in the air. Million Pounds. If they had a brain cell between them in the back rooms at Leicester we could of signed Marton Fulop, piece of piss. Probably our best player.

dandannieldanok Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 My god Jim Magilton is stupid, £1m
Scow Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 There isn't a great deal of difference between McAuley and N'Gotty pace wise. And as rightly pointed out, N'Gotty is the better defender. McAuley is usually reliable but seems to be struggling at the minute. I would keep him for now unless the offer was too good to refuse. If Ipswich are offering a million (Which I highly doubt) then I wouldn't give a second thought to it.
Simi Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Any sort of half-decent replacement and I'd sell up for that money. He's one of the reasons we are in this position, as much as anyone. N'Gotty til the end of the season and then shell out for a more mobile centre-back in the summer. I can't believe we'd be getting £1million for a slow 28-year-old who would get murdered in the Premiership. Bang on sir. Sell if we get the chance I say. He's never looked a fantastic player for us and really does lack pace, not that the rest of our defence doesn't. Only sell if we have someone lined up, but £1 million is good offer, although they've recently been taken over we could maybe get a little more.
Joe. Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I'd be disappointed to be honest if we sold McAuley. Personally I think he's a valuable player for us, even his some of his performances of late haven't been great. Last season he was superb alongside Kisnorbo, who also hasn't been playing well of late. For now I think we should keep hold of him, he's a very good defender for us and I'd be disappointed if we got rid of him. Although £1 million would be too good an offer to refuse for Holloway I think.
Staf Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I do like McAuley but for 1million i would definetly sell him he is a good player but is so slow it worries me we could sign another good defender for 500k and make a 500k profit
Lichfieldfox. Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Sell, sell, sell. No brainer. Kisnorbo and Stears with Bruno as back-up. Chambers at right back. Put money in bank to use towards a Fulop deal when his price drops in the summer! I'm surprised magilton doesn't prefer Kisnorbo or Stears as younger and quicker.
Bryn Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 He cost £50k I'm almost certain? x20 profit. Sell sell sell. Solid player but we need a defender that compliments Kisnorbo who IMO has now gone round the rating scale to underrated, having been overrated before. Someone with a bit of pace. £1m is good money, and we could get a replacement.
