dandannieldanok Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Magilton said on the Ipswich OS he could make an improved offer could be £1.5 mil we'll be laughing all the way to the bank with that. We could probably buy 2 better defenders than him for that. Sell McAuley. Pinch Ryan Shawcross from under Stoke's noses for £1m. Simple.
Jack Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 I rate him as a player but I'd snap their hands off for a million quid.
escape2victory Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Buy on a free transfer in 06 and sell 18 months later for £1.5m. These are Arsene Wenger like profit margins ! Lets make a cheeky bid for Calum Davenport at West Ham. Maybe he is injured but hasnt got a look in this season.

But i'd have Shawcross for MacAuley!!
breadandcheese Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 Apparently it's between Stoke & Norwich for Calum mate... But i'd have Shawcross for MacAuley!! I'm sure we could hijack any bid for Davenport. He would be an excellent signing. At 24, with Premiership experience, for £1 million, he would be a superb replacement for McAuley. Davenport might be 25, I'm not sure.
Dames Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 How have i missed this thread? For that amount i'll carry him down there on my own back.
Cheese Me Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 How have i missed this thread? For that amount i'll carry him down there on my own back. Why, he's a good player and we have no need whatsoever to sell. We should not be selling anyone in our first team but shedding some of the detritus around the edges. With Milan's backing we have nothing to gain from letting decent players walk away.

And for £1.5 Million for someone who we got on a free from a League 2 team that would not be a bad bit of business and line up a faster better centerback.
Shit_arse Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Get rid of him, Hold out for 1.5mil then spend wisely elsewhere.
Joe. Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Get rid of him, Hold out for 1.5mil then spend wisely elsewhere. I reckon I'd be tempted for that. I like McAuley a lot but I'm sure we could find an equally as good if not better defender for that cash easily.
shrek1971 Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Get rid of him, Hold out for 1.5mil then spend wisely elsewhere. YEA! RIGHT! BUY WHERE FROM THEN?

May be but why the fook should we do Ipswich any favours ? If we sell McAuley to them, we will have to take a chance on buying another one and hoping he fits in. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
MPH Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 I rate him as a player but I'd snap their hands off for a million quid. and their elbow for 1.5m .....
Jonezy Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 I'm sure one the posters with reliable sources within the club, talked about 4 players being indispensable and McAuley was one of them. Ollie's main reason for getting this job was, that he did not have to sell his best players, and if he has identified McAuley as such, I dont think we will sell him.
Blue Bob Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 I think we would be mad to sell him for 1 million, what would we find to replace him? How much would he cost? Not worth the risk. The defence has been the strength of our side and have one of the lowest goals scored against because of that. To break that up would be daft. If they offered £3 million think about it otherwise tell em where to go!!!

This lack of pace thing for centre halves makes me smile , how many times has our back four conceded goals that are totally due to lack of pace? Is it more than West Brom say? or Watford? The last time this great club of our was promoted Elliott and Taggart were paired , a slower pair of lumps you couldn't wish to pick but were they exposed? If Ollie does not rate McAuley or Kisnorbo for that matter you can bet the replacement won't be lightning either, but he might have a bit more upstairs or a bit more presence, not pace.
SystonFox Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 everybody seems to have it in their heads that CB are slow as a sack of shite. i watched McAuley closely on saturday and thought he looked quite fast. he is a good CB i believe. who would you rather have? McAuley or McCarthy - money no issue?!! i think i know what 95% of the forum would go for.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I hate that phrase. Candles weren't broke but I'm glad we "fixed" them.

Dr The Singh Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Ipswich are set to up their offer to £600,000 for Leicester centre-half Gareth McAuley (mirror) That's about how much he is releastically worth!! Tough choice at that price, I hope city will hold out for a mill, or unless they have someone better in mind, let him go!!!
