morris1234 Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Does he think Ipswich are going to pay him £15,000 a week then?? The more I hear about this the more I think he has been tapped up about a move, because their bid just doesn't make sense to me. might be on to something there! the bastards are trying to poach our players but give us 1.5 mill and ill take him down there myself! but then again he is a good player, and we need to consider: 1) would we have to pay more on wages for another defender if he goes as he has let it known that he is not on a lot! 2)if we could find somebody that will fit in the team. 3)^ and for the right price. i think if holloway were to even consider accepting a bid for him or any other player for that matter (unless they are surplus to requirements so hammond kaebi nielsen etc) he should actually have somebody in mind for a replacement, and knwoing ollie hed want to buy somebody a lot cheaper than whatever they pay us for gazza, and somebody good not just any old geeza! personally i cant see this happening, ollie wants to build a team and not get rid of them unless they are the casino's and hosseins!
Finn Claw Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 I've heard it was more than that but 15k is bad enough. Ngotty was always gonig to be on high wages, signed on a free from a prem club Has played for AC Milan and France - isn't the player he was but brings a lot more experience than any of the others. Sometimes you have to accept a player with a history is going to be on a lot more money than you, if he is genuinely unhappy then send him on his way, he is good but not so good that he is irreplaceable £1.5m could buy you someone with a bit more pace.
lavrentis Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Ipswich are poised to up their £600,000 bid for Leicester's unsettled centre-half Gareth McAuley. The £1m-rated 28-year-old is unhappy that City players signed since Milan Mandaric's takeover earn much more than him - like £15,000-a-week Bruno N'Gotty, who is on the bench. (mirror) Unsettled my arse.
The Reverend Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 If he wants to move because of N'Gottys wages, he can **** off for that price. N'Gotty has pedigree, thats why he is on such wages, he may be a bit past it now, but still good enough for this level, and if McAuley doesnt like it, he can **** off.
davieG Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Source Holloway won't even think of letting McAuley go until he gets a new defender in Leicester City boss Ian Holloway will not entertain letting Gareth McAuley join Ipswich Town until he has signed another centre half. Including the 28-year-old, Holloway has just three centre halves to choose from in his squad and cannot afford to let the Northern Ireland international leave the Walkers Stadium until he has brought in a replacement. Town boss Jim Magilton admitted last week that his dealings in the transfer window has been like trying to buy a house in a chain – until Holloway gets in another defender then the Foxes will not let McAuley leave. Ipswich have already had a £600,000 offer rejected by Leicester and will not make another bid until the Foxes have brought in more cover for their back four. Holloway has brought in six players during the January transfer window and McAuley has reportedly become unsettled at the fact these new additions are on better wages than he is. With the former Coleraine defender's contract running out in 2009 it could be his agent is starting to make a few noises in order to try and secure his client a new deal.

With absolutely no quotes from Holloway it seems to me like this is just a made up load of crap. Ipswich are doing my head in... they did exactly what they are doing now with Norris from Plymouth. Constant name dropping of our player and stories like this with no substance.
lookwhaticando Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 If we don't sell him then it's only fair he get's bought in line with the rest of the first team squad wages wise. Of all our regular starting players, he's probably on the lowest wages of the lot - or close to it. He joined - on a free - from League Two when we didn't have two pennies to rub together. The other players still with us (and somewhat valued) from the Levein/Kelly era have mostly signed new contracts since then - Kisnorbo and Hume in particular as well as Wesolowski (who got a four year Mandaric deal in the summer). Stearman got a new deal not too long ago, didn't he? Or was that pre-Mandaric? He might be on less... Joe Mattock may be earning less, but he's only 17. Matty Fryatt might also be earning less. All the other regular starters are Mandaric era signings - a few of them having come from the Premiership at some point. I bet Alan Maybury is on more money, too, and look where he is as a Leicester City player right now.

Staf Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 We should sell him for 600k and then get a hungarian centre back on loan for the rest of the season
The People's Hero Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 McAuley can sling his bleedin' hook. N'Gotty has got that sort of money due to pedigree and good performance elsewhere. McAuley has to earn that. Being an almost ever present in a bottom-half Championship side does not earn you that. I sit in an office all day. Some people do the same and earn £1million salaries. I'm not fu cking demanding that am I? McAuley can sod off. Greedy fu cker.
Flynny Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 15k a week for N'Gotty is absolutely mental. I wouldn't sell McAuley for less than a million, but anything more then definitely. I think our defense could be stronger and less one-dimensional with Stearman at CB and Chambers at RB, although I wouldn't like to try it without reason in a league game in case it all went tits-up.

davieG Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Talking the price up or genuinely wants him to stay Foxes Want to Keep McAuley Thursday 17 Jan 2008 09:22:52 by Phil Leicester City boss Ian Holloway has stated his intention to keep Town target Gareth McAuley at the Walkers Stadium. Last week the Foxes turned down a Blues offer for the Northern Ireland international, with reports yesterday claiming that Town would make a renewed bid to sign the 28-year-old. Holloway told a Midlands newspaper: "I don't deal with speculation. It's the maddest time of the year, but it means we have some half-decent players if people are talking about them. "Gareth McAuley has been excellent since I have been here. He will learn and improve in a regular system and a regular team." Source Holloway fed up of speculation as he sings the praises of Town target Thurs 17 Jan 08 (0) Comments | leave a comment Leicester City boss Ian Holloway has rejected speculation Gareth McAuley could be on his way to Ipswich Town. The Blues were rebuffed in their £600,000 offer for the Northern Ireland international but are rumoured to be considering another bid for the 28-year-old. However, Holloway insists he has no plans to offload McAuley, who is unhappy that the six new signings brought into the Walkers Stadium in January are on better wages than he is. "I don't deal with speculation," the Foxes boss told the Leicester Mercury. "It's the maddest time of the year but it means we have some half-decent players if people are talking about them. "Gareth McAuley has been excellent since I have been here. He will learn and improve in a regular system and a regular team." Despite Holloway's comments it is understood that Leicester would be willing to do business for McAuley at the right price while the Foxes' eccentric boss would like to bring in a replacement before he lets the defender leave. Magilton is desperate to bring in a new defender to help shore up his leaky defence on the road and has identified McAuley as the answer. The former Coleraine man was on target against Town last season and Magilton has been an admirer of the player for some time. But it looks like Town would have to pay close to around the £1m mark to secure McAuley's services. Source
