I thought some people reckoned they'd already offered us atleast a million for Big Gaz? £600,000 would get us Martin Taylor or possibly Callum Davenport for a bit more. But is it worth having to sell him and then trying to negotiate to get someone else? I mean, £600,000 is hardly too good to turn down.

I thought the initial bid was 1 million??

the original debate of sell/keep was indeed conducted against a reported offer of £1million- whatever their original bid its not surprising it was knocked back

To be honest, I'd sell him for that. I'd like to see N'Gotty at centre back anyway.

Having said that, for a million, I'd bite their bloody hands off.

We'd still need to sign another centre half though, as we couldn't cope with just two. So unless we've got more than the said £600,000 to spend on one, is it worth having to trawl the market to get another? I'm not McAuley's biggest fan and anything nearing a million or more would be excellent business, but £600,000 isn't a great deal for an International.

I'd like to know what Magilton has been smoking thinking we'd sell for less than a million. The guy has been given a bit of cash and he has gone mad... has he forgotten we have a bit of wedge to spend ourselves and are highly unlikely to sell one of our first choice centre backs????

I suppose he's perhaps thinking that because we've got a bit of cash, we might be looking to strengthen our defence so perhaps a cheeky bid still might tempt us. It is strange though and rightly he's been told to fook off.

Ipswich are set to up their offer to £600,000 for Leicester centre-half Gareth McAuley (mirror)

It makes me think that the Mirror are just making numbers up and havent a clue what Ipswich initial bid was for McAuley.

Why would we sell an international, who is a regular first team player who isnt that bad owned by a club that is under no pressure to sell for a mere £600k?

Easy answer ..... its bullsh*t!!!!!

They did offer 1 million! :giggle:

Seems like the Mirror is one for lazy journalism as well!

If i had a pound for every time i read"lazy journalism" here on FT i'd be worth about a million.

Hasn't it occurred to anyone else it might be an error and they're actually increasing it BY £600,000? He's talked about him publicly. I reckon the story is that they've bid £1.6m.

Sounds a bit more like a realistic valuation for him, still dont think we should sell him though at that price and break up what has been a reasonable defence.

Being claimed by a good source on TB that he is not happy here as another CB is on 15k a week and sit on the bench.

I'd soil for £1.6 million.

ME too.

you could get a very good champ defend for 600k.

Leaves you 1million to get some back up in other areas.

Only from Hungary. The exchange rate is pretty good at the moment. I believe one decent Hungarian central defender equals half a Leon Cort.

Ipswich are poised to up their £600,000 bid for Leicester's unsettled centre-half Gareth McAuley.

The £1m-rated 28-year-old is unhappy that City players signed since Milan Mandaric's takeover earn much more than him - like £15,000-a-week Bruno N'Gotty, who is on the bench. (mirror)

I'd put it towards Fulop and pay that twat at Sunderland £3m. Bring back Marci. ;)

Does he think Ipswich are going to pay him £15,000 a week then?? The more I hear about this the more I think he has been tapped up about a move, because their bid just doesn't make sense to me.

McAuley won't be on a lot here. He was signed when we didn't have a pot to piss in and I don't think he's signed a new deal here has he, since? I could understand that he might be seeking an improved deal considering he's seen as a first choice defender here.

But whether he thinks he should be on £15k a week, might be wide of the mark.

If we don't sell him then it's only fair he get's bought in line with the rest of the first team squad wages wise.

I can understand his discontent if he's in the side getting half a much a someone who's not. He's also likely to be at his peak and keen to squeeze the last drop out of wages department.

What we have to do is weigh up whether he's worth an increase or whether we should accept £1m or so.

Wouldn't take me long but Holloway might see it differently and offer the bloke a rise. And why not in the circumstances - except that he's got a bid for McAuley and he's not likely to get one for N'Gotty.
