WetFlannel Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I'd bite their arm off for a million... Hes an allright player but I wouldnt turn down that price.
lavrentis Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 We need big Gaz in defence, I like him..hopefully he will be here for many years and see us into the premiership.
DB11 Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 sell him!!!for a million we'll be laughing we need a pacier player to play with kisnorbo. mcauley is a weak link in a 4 man defence Not if Fulham take Kisnorbo!
Jimmy Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Not if Fulham take Kisnorbo! they would of made a bid by now ....
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 He cost £50k I'm almost certain? x20 profit. Sell sell sell. Solid player but we need a defender that compliments Kisnorbo who IMO has now gone round the rating scale to underrated, having been overrated before. Someone with a bit of pace. £1m is good money, and we could get a replacement. He was free. Infinite profit.
lookwhaticando Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Why do people keep insisting we spent money on signing him? A quick google would dispel the myth in seconds. Remember... he's a Rob Kelly signing. Did any of you really believe for a second that we spent any money at all when Rob Kelly was in charge? Let alone 250k on a single player! He's one of our better players... but for a million, we can't say no really.
Calum McDermott Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 sell him!!!for a million we'll be laughing we need a pacier player to play with kisnorbo. mcauley is a weak link in a 4 man defence hes not a weak link in defence he is one of the strongets players we have, he dominates in the defence and is normally consistent.
SamL Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 we got him on a bosman Then we would make a good profit, but do we really need to sell him? If we sold him then there's a chance that we bought in another player that wasn't as good so we'd be taking a step back. His form hasn't been great recently but last season he was one of our best players. To be honest, I don't think we'd be showing much ambition if we sold him. I hope I wasn't included in that statement I couldn't remember how much we got him for so took a guess at £250k
jonw88 Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Everybody keeps saying sell him and play Stearz at centre back instead... has anybody even seen him play there before? How do we know he'd be any good? To be honest, his attacking is probably better than his defending, he's be worse that McAuley at CB that's for sure. And still he could be on his way out to Villa for all we know.

lookwhaticando Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I hope I wasn't included in that statement I couldn't remember how much we got him for so took a guess at £250k I wasn't aiming it at anyone in particular. I just found it a little naughty that people had picked wild numbers out for his transfer fee. The 250k number did stick out though when I trawled through the topic, which is why I included it.
morris1234 Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 My god Jim Magilton is stupid, £1m  well i heard that they have 12mill to spend.???!
Narborough Bod Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I'd bite their arm off for a million... Hes an allright player but I wouldnt turn down that price. totally agree, have the cash. He's not great or crap, just average. Just about better than Matt Heath, not much better than McCarthy, slightly better in the air. But who'd replace him? Need someone with a footballing brain Elliott - not fast but quick feet / mind. Taggart - not fast but great positional play + very strong Walsh - footballing brain in the sense that they can't score if it's in row Z!! Has N'Gotty actually played for us at centre half yet this year?

Koke Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 £1 million, bite their hands off. N'Gotty can play there albeit he's just as slow as McAuley, if not slower. But in terms of game reading and intelligence he's a mile ahead of McAuley. And he can pass a ball 10 yards. And as Manwell already mentioned, Darren Kenton as a backup wouldn't be the end of the world. I don't know but maybe, just maybe, Ollie is intending on getting Marcel Seip from Plymouth.
Narborough Bod Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Err...yes. re phrase, started a run of games at centre half?? not including the mighty megson's 5 at the back. wasn't he centre back for brum when they did us at the walkers last year? just thinking, he could slot in until we get a really good centre half (if there is one out there).
LcFc D3C Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 one of our better defenders would be sad to see him leave
filbertway Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 We could do better than him so I wouldn't mind selling him.
TrickyTrev Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 No, he's one of the better players!!Bloody keep him!!! If we are serious about heading up the table, we need to keep our best players!! IMO he is one! You're opinion is wrong. McAuley is slow, fouls too much and has woeful distribution. I don't believe for a minute we'd get a million pounds for him.
MPH Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I like the lad. But he isnt worth a 1m, not even by todays standard. People may say he is a good player but we are 4th from bottom and he hasnt stood out from the rest of the team as being a world beater so he must carry some of the blame for that. In other words, if we want to be fighting at the other end of this division we need to be getting better players. If we can get players like Steve Howard coming to this club for 1.5m then i say take the money, add a bit to it and get someone better. Its not rocket science.

The 250k number did stick out though when I trawled through the topic, which is why I included it. Don't worry, I understand. I don't know where I got £250k from, bit of a random number I suppose. Just took a guess at what he was worth, won't be doing that one again
lookwhaticando Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 I'd expect more from you. Maybe I know something you don't about this 'rumour'. Maybe I'm resigned to losing McAuley. Maybe I'm not quite as sentimental as you expected. Or maybe I just ain't feeling it for this squad any more. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd care if the entire squad was flogged. And by flogged, I don't just mean sold.
shrek1970 Posted 11 January 2008 Posted 11 January 2008 IPSWICH Town have been rebuffed in their efforts to land Gareth McAuley from Leicester City. The Blues made a bid for the Northern Ireland defender earlier this week but the Foxes have told them he is not for sale. Town manager Jim Magilton is an admirer of both McAuley and his defensive partner Patrick Kisnorbo but knew he had no chance of landing the City skipper, so made a cheeky bid to try and sign the former Larne-born man who he knows from the Irish team. link:- http://www.eveningstar.co.uk/content/eveni...3A03%3A08%3A470
