Lester LXXIV Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 From an Ipswich SIte: Second bid made for Norris while McAuley remains firmly in boss' sights Fri 18 Jan 08 (0) Comments | leave a comment Ipswich Town manager Jim Magilton revealed this morning that he put in a second bid for midfielder David Norris last night and will put in another offer for Leicester City's Gareth McAuley before the end of the transfer window. Town are still awaiting an answer from Plymouth in regard to Norris but Magilton admitted that he fears that fan power down in Devon may be a factor in the Pilgrims' decision making. The Home Park faithful have already seen the likes of Akos Buzsaky, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Dan Gosling leave this month and the prospect of losing Norris is causing a sense of dismay at the Championship club. Norris' father revealed this morning there have not been any talks over a new deal at Plymouth but Magilton believes manager Paul Sturrock is desperate to hold on to the former Bolton man. However, the Blues boss is determined to get his man and is optimistic a deal can be done before January 31. "We have made a second offer for David Norris and they're up in arms down in Plymouth," he said. "Fan power is playing a big part in this and I understand that. "They don't want one of their best players to leave and we're wary of that situation but we are determined to get him. "I don't think it's the player holding things up – I think it's the club. In all honesty I don't think the club want to sell but we have made a good offer again and we are hopeful we can get the deal done." With less than two weeks until the window slams shut Magilton knows he doesn't have any time to waste but insists he will know the moment he has to start working down his shopping list. "I haven't got a deadline at the moment but it's getting close to that," he admitted. "We've got other irons in the fire and I can't keep them hanging on." Despite having an offer in excess of £600,000 rejected by Leicester last week for Gareth McAuley, Magilton will go back in with another offer over the coming days. The defender is understood to be disillusioned at the Walkers Stadium at the wages he is on compared to the new arrivals there and Magilton is looking to swoop. "I probably will go back in for McAuley," he said. "We have identified three or four targets and we would love to have got them all done and dusted and out of the way. But it takes patience. "At the end of the day these teams do not want to lose good players and until they get replacements in they are not going to shift. We just have to play a waiting game to see how it goes. "I don't think we've gone the full hog just yet but if we do and we get knocked back then we move on. We've got other people waiting in the wings." Magilton also said that the club are still waiting on an answer to another bid made more than two weeks ago. It is understood the selling club are waiting to see if they can get in a replacement before contemplating letting the player go
CKB Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 If he's meant to be disillusioned at his pay, does he think he's gonna go Ipswich and get 30 grand a week? i say if they offer over a million sell..
davieG Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 Maybe he's not looking to get as much as N'gotty just enough to bring him up to everyone else. It's all conjecture and newspaper bollocks anyway.
morris1234 Posted 22 January 2008 Posted 22 January 2008 http://ipswichtown.myfootballwriter.com/fu...icle.asp?i=2487 ALL EYES ON MCAULEY Ipswich Town are no longer in the running to sign Birmingham City defender Matt Sadler after baulking at the £1m asking price. Blues boss Jim Magilton enquired into the full-back's availability last week but has decided against pursuing any deal with Wolves set to swoop. The Ferret's old boy in the Midlands understands that Magilton is far more keen to go back in for Gareth McAuley at Leicester and is readying an offer of around £900,000. Leicester boss Ian Holloway does not want to lose the defender, who has been an ever-present in the league so far this season for the Foxes. But as the Ferret revealed to you last week, unless McAuley gets a new improved contract to rank alongside the new signings at the Walkers Stadium then the 28-year-old will look to get away from the Midlands side. Holloway is still looking to bring in players to help his side's bid to stave off relegation and if he could bring in another defender then he may be willing to talk business over McAuley and Town's interest. But a deal will only be possible if Holloway can fulfil that link in the chain…the Ferret will be watching the coming and goings at the Walkers Stadium very closely over the next nine days.

davieG Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 McAuley is staying at City Exclusive by Bill Anderson Gareth McAuley is staying at Leicester City after the club turned down a second offer from Ipswich Town. And not only that, City are also ready to offer the defender a new contract. City boss Ian Holloway has been given the “green light” to improve the Northern Ireland international's terms by chairman Milan Mandaric, who “finally rejected” the Suffolk club's overtures. Holloway said: “Gareth is a great lad, he is happy here and one of those who has played really well for me since I came here, so I did not want to lose him. “Our defence has been a strong point recently and he has played a full part in that. We are ambitious to move forward and try to get out of this division, and we have to keep our best players to do that. “I am trying to improve the quality of the squad by bringing in new players, not letting any of our top ones leave.” McAuley has been in fine form and his performances have been integral to City's run of three clean sheets in a row. And with the transfer window closing tomorrow night, City are relieved to have settled the issue for the rest of the season. Mandaric, as committed as Holloway to taking things forward, said: “We have finally rejected the offer and Gareth McAuley stays. “He is a quality player, we are ambitious to get into the Premier League and we need players like him to do that. “The lad wants to stay here and I have given my manager the green light to discuss a new contract with him. “We are looking to improve the playing staff right now, looking at going in one direction, upwards, and we need good players for that reason. “We have had some good results recently, the team is doing well and we want that to continue so that we can climb the table. So we need to keep our best players with us.” Having repelled a predator, City are still on the look-out themselves and are hopeful that some moves could still be made. Plymouth's David Norris has featured strongly in speculation but I understand City have not made a bid.

Joe. Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Good. There's absolutely no need to sell him. He's a solid player for this team.
Leicfox Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Magilton in a late bid for McAuley... Magilton said today: "We have shown that we want Gareth McAuley at Ipswich and we still have time to try to get him here. "I have been working on this for three weeks and until the clock strikes midnight I will do all I can to sign him. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...icle3390131.ece
Jon25747 Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Bad news chaps, I work for the firm of solicitors in Ipswich that deals with all the ITFC stuff, including contracts and apparently McAuley is in Ipswich right now having talks. My contact wont reveil who told her but she is also an employee of the firm. Unsure on reliability but it seems fairly cosher to me. Also heard that Norris will sign for Ips today, by a VERY reliable source.

teblin Posted 31 January 2008 Author Posted 31 January 2008 There is a post on 606 that they will sign him for 1.75
RowlattsFox Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Surely we will only sell if we can get a replacement in by the end of the day. Martin Taylor could be a possiblity.
MikeyT Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Dont want to sell him thanks! He's been an integral part of our defence this season. We have pretty much the best defensive record in the league and he is one of the reasons behind that! No sale!!!!!
