Daggers Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 That's the interpretation I put on MM's piece in the program on Saturday - anyone else get this?
MikeyT Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 That's the interpretation I put on MM's piece in the program on Saturday - anyone else get this? I unfortunately wasnt at the game, but what did the piece in the program say?
MPH Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 That's the interpretation I put on MM's piece in the program on Saturday - anyone else get this? didnt holloway say he had 2 or 3 more transfers lined up before the deadline?
Koke Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 I just can't wait till Friday. This whole window is doing my head in.
Master Fox Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 We're simply the best!!! Better than all the rest..... Cos we've Fryatt & Hume, and Lazcko is smooth.
Daggers Posted 30 January 2008 Author Posted 30 January 2008 Unfortunately, when Ollie arrived here he inherited a group of players that were not his choice so I needed to give him some time and my full support in order to help him make his mark on the squad.Since the transfer window re-opened I have allowed him to bring in six new players so no-one can fault me for not giving him by[sic] 100 per cent support. There now seems to be a better balance to the side and I am optimistic that Ollie will deliver what we all want - a return to the top flight of English football. We have worked hard to bring in the right blend of players and against Coventry especially, the team had a better balance and played a more exciting style of football, which we all want to see. our job now is to stabilise and build on the solid foundations that have been laid.
Ric Flair Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 I still think there will be 1 or 2 more come in, probably on loan either tomorrow or in a week or two when the loan window re-opens. But I don't see us splashing out any more transfer fee's right now. We missed out on Lee Martin and Isiah Osbourne both on loan and we haven't signed any other players since then in their positions, so that to me indicates we'd still be looking for a few more and i'm sure Holloway has Mandaric's backing for loan deals.
MikeyT Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Cheers for posting that. I see what you mean, but i'm still thinking maybe 1 or 2 more deals could be done before midnight tomorrow. I keep saying this, and ive seen other people say the same thing, but i still feel we need another centre mid, winger and possibly a left back. I hope we do get some more in before tomorrow! We need people to be challenging for places. A couple or 3 injuries or suspensions and we are nearly back to square one again!

Must agree. The squad is looking a bit thin now if you ask me, in terms of backup players at centre-back and on the wings. I hope we'll bring in a young Premiership winger on loan for the rest of the season and possibly another central midfielder too.

I'd like to see us bring in a winger and central midfielder on loan. Feel that letting Kenton go was a mistake as he was invaluable in terms of cover across the back four or if needed as an energetic defensive midfielder. Therefore, would like to see us bring in a handy, fit, energetic, defensively minded utility man on loan.

Surely Chris Eagles fancies a few mid-week nights out up Liquid & Envy, rather than rooting some fit bint in the more luxurious night clubs in Manchester.

I was thinking that at the time, but if Kisnorbo or McAuley get injured then in comes N'Gotty whose as good a back-up at centre half you could possibly need. Then if Stearman get's injured then in comes Chambers or N'Gotty. Left back or central midfield then we're struggling a bit as Weso is known to even get injured stretching for a pot on the black down at Riley's.

I dunno about him but I'll take either of those and I whip in a mean corner on the sly to boot.
Zingari Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 That's the interpretation I put on MM's piece in the program on Saturday - anyone else get this? agreed , thats what i thought too ; i still think there is a bit of a clash of personalities between them and that IH is only safe ( ish) because of the amount of upheavals at the club ; i've said before that the body language between them does not look good and i still would not be suprised if ollie was out well before his contract expires

That's my take too - but it certainly reads as though MM is saying 'here you go, I've stumped up the cash, there's a balance, now get on with it Holloway (and if it goes pear-shaped you can't blame me)'. To a certain extent, I don't see the need for anyone else until the summer (if we are going to be realistic about our final position in the league). We now have a team capable of not getting relegated - and cramming in extra players just for the sake of it in an already over-sized squad doesn't seem logical.

I can see where you're coming from with the last statement. Me and Ric just like our foreign wingers too much. We'd be creaming it if we signed someone with twenty consonants in their surname tomorrow five minutes before the deadline, even if he turned out to be cockrot.

Sorry.
The People's Hero Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 If we sign another player who plays in the same position as ANY of our academy prospects (ie anywhere) life isn't going to be worth living on this forum. We may as well jump ship if a press conference is called before the end of the window.
Steven Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Surely Chris Eagles fancies a few mid-week nights out up Liquid & Envy, rather than rooting some fit bint in the more luxurious night clubs in Manchester. Is Paul Gallagher available. I was very impressed when he played for Stoke.
Ric Flair Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Is Paul Gallagher available. I was very impressed when he played for Stoke. I think he went back to Blackburn last month and as of yet hasn't gone back out on loan, Preston want him back. Let them have Fryatt and we'll have Gallacher. A spot of Marco Ferreira on August 31st was a mouth waterer, turned out to be sick though.
Staf Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 I am not bothered if we sign players or not tomorrow because i think we have the quality to stay in the league now and new players would make us more stable which would be nice but we are not desperate for players like we were on the 1st of Jan

This is how all the stupidness starts!! Personally, I think we still need to sign some more players. One or two injuries and we really are back to square one as far as the squad is concerned. Against Norwich we lost a couple of players and the lack of balance was blatantly obvious to see. HUme on the right isn't working for us, it never will I fear. I hope you're not right Daggers, but I fear you are.
Jonezy Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 I think Ollie is still looking for wide men, but he cant get any before he ships someone out. I think MM have pulled the plug, and reached his limit both on seasonal transfer spending and wage budget. We might get lucky with some loan deals, but that might as well be happening after the window is closed. I think we have to rely on the academy boys until the summer for backup, which again leaves some questionmarks about Gradel and Hayes playing League 1 footie on loan. Maybe we should be happy, that the 6 players we got this window are 10 times more useful than the pile of wank MA and MM brought in in the summer. Centre mid is really not a problem with Clem, Oak, Weso, King and J. Chambers around. I see the wings and leftback as positions to be concerned about, but we might have to wait. I really really do NOT hope, that MM is getting fed up with Ollie already... If Ollie goes before next season we might as well give up, and support the Tigers instead....
Thracian Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 I'm encouraged that MM wants to see a better brand of football. And judging by the tone of what he said, at least as I read it, Holloway had better start providing some.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Could do with another winger and someone in another midfielder. I think we'll sign atleast one player tommorrow saying that. When the window closes you can still loan players and i think that is how Ollie is playing it. David Norris is one i think tommorrow, who we will make a last ditch effort for. 1.7 i think and he will be ours.
