DJ Barry Hammond Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Didn't Ollie say something after the palace game referencing the 'Men in Black!' - I'm sure i heard something on the radio - that would suggest we're still looking?
Wooly Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Players who you'd not vomit at seeing in these positions? GK: Alnwick RB: Chambers, Stearman, N'Gotty CB: Kisnorbo, McAuley, N'Gotty, Stearman LB: Mattock, Shush! RM: Bori CM: Oakley, Clemence, Wesolowski LM: Laczko, Shush! ST: Hume, Howard, Hayles, Campbell, Fryatt Soooo cover clearly needed at LB and all across the midfield. And in goal but not that important I suppose.
danny. Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 i dont rate hume at RM at all, so add that to the "cover needed" positions
Geo V Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 I think we may add a player or two albeit on loan as the transfer window slams shut but I`d be happy to keep the lads we have with Clemence and Oakley in central midfield with Weso and even King to play if needed as cover. I hope there are a couple of more leaving though as we need to shift that dead wood that still remains.
Samilktray Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 I have it on decent authority no one else will come in tomorow. Ask Dave. Dont take my word for it though
Daggers Posted 31 January 2008 Author Posted 31 January 2008 I have it on decent authority no one else will come in tomorow.Ask Dave. Dont take my word for it though I was halfway putting this into FIAB's thread as it got deleted... If anyone was going then they'd have gone by now. If anyone was coming there would be a stronger rumour and the Mercury would have had a sniff of the story so they could break it by deadline. I'll be surprised and delighted in equal measure if I'm wrong but (for once) I don't think I am.
Dames Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Rumour has it that Glombard is on his way back for a second stint.
Daggers Posted 31 January 2008 Author Posted 31 January 2008 Rumour has it that Glombard is on his way back for a second stint. Woohoo!
Ric Flair Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Last year, Horsfield, Yeates and Glombard all came in pretty much without many rumours circulating. Horsfield had been seen down the training ground but the other two hadn't. If we're going to sign anyone, let's hope they aren't as spicy as these three were.
Fox in a Box Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric has not ruled out any deadline-day arrivals at the club. However, Mandaric said he would not raise supporters' hopes by promising new signings before tonight's midnight deadline, having already missed out on some targets this month. City have signed six players - strikers Steve Howard and Barry Hayles, and midfielder Matt Oakley in permanent deals, and Hungarians Gabor Bori and Zsolt Laczko, and goalkeeper Ben Alnwick, on loan - since the window opened on New Year's Day. They have also been linked with Plymouth's David Norris, but he is reported to be signing for Ipswich today for £2million. Mandaric said: “Whether we will be able to do anything else in the next 24 hours remains to be seen. “There's always the possibility of arrivals but I am not going to make any promises. “We have tried to bring a couple of players in. We lost those and the last thing I would want is to say something and it doesn't happen. “But we can still bring in loan players after the deadline.” Mandaric admitted City have also turned down “aggressive approaches” for some of their players. Ipswich have had two offers rejected for Gareth McAuley, who is set to be offered a new contract, while a Premier League club has had a seven-figure bid for England Under-21 left-back Joe Mattock turned down. Mandaric said: “We have had a lot of aggressive approaches for some of our players. We are turning everything down for the simple reason we are establishing a team with quality players to get out of this division. Any player that will help us will stay with us.” Four players who are not part of manager Ian Holloway's plans have moved on during the transfer window. Forward Mark de Vries, 32, has linked up with former City boss Craig Levein at Dundee United after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent. Goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen, winger Shaun Newton and forward Carl Cort, who all arrived at City under Martin Allen in the summer, have also left after having their contracts cancelled by mutual consent. Young goalkeeper Carl Pentney, meanwhile, has this week joined Ilkeston Town of the Unibond League on a month-long loan.
The People's Hero Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 I want a Chinese player. Let's face it, we don't have one yet. I have foreseen the epic but massively dissappointing return of Theo 'ello sailor' Zagorakis too.

Daggers Posted 31 January 2008 Author Posted 31 January 2008 Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric has not ruled out any deadline-day arrivals at the club. Well, that's my take on that statement. It says to me "I've spent all the money I'm going to on transfers and now there'll only be a couple of loan signings if they're cheap enough or we can reduce the wage bill."

Altogether it's been a good window and Mandaric seems to have been supportive of Holloway and straightforward enough with the fans. Six new players SHOULD be enough to make a difference and I don't think there's too much chance of any being as woeful as some we landed in the summer. All appear to serve a purpose and now it's a question of how Holloway makes them play. Talk of play-offs is ridiculous though. Survival will be a relief, mid-table a modest achievement and hopefully the manager will glean enough evidence to know what further strengthening he'll need to do in the summer to make serious progress.
teblin Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 think if we sell someone you may see others come in. Forest's £1.25m bid for Coventry's Leon Best has been reject might mean they tuen the attension to matty?

They ought to, but it would be a question as to whether he's prepared to drop down division for regular football. He really doesn't have a future at the club anymore.
Fox in a Box Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 They ought to, but it would be a question as to whether he's prepared to drop down division for regular football. He really doesn't have a future at the club anymore. I reckon mattys on his way to the tress.....he lives in litchfield and therefore no closer or further than Leics for him, and he would think its a decent move as he aint getting a look in. Leicester City are trying to beat the transfer deadline to bring in left-back Jamie Clapham on loan from Wolves for the rest of the season. And going in the other direction, there is a possibility that Alan Maybury will return to his first club Leeds. Darren Kenton is already at Elland Road, but his loan spell could be made permanent. City boss Ian Holloway has also been linked with Preston midfielder Simon Whalley, with QPR also rumoured to be interested with the transfer window closing tonight. The move for 32-year-old Clapham, the former Tottenham, Ipswich and Birmingham man, is seen as bringing in an experienced left-back to ease the pressure on emerging teenager Joe Mattock, who has already needed to be rested this season. The probable departure of Kenton and Maybury, who also trained recently with former club Hearts, further clears the decks for Holloway to make changes. The City boss did eye his former Plymouth charge David Norris, who handed in a transfer request which was turned down by Argyle. The player apparently wanted to be reunited with Holloway but Ipswich have had an offer for him accepted after no City bid was forthcoming.
Dames Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 I'm slightly worried that we only signed a has been left back and absolutely no cover for the wings. Hayles Hume and Fryatt are all strikers. They are useless wingers
Ric Flair Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 I'm slightly worried that we only signed a has been left back and absolutely no cover for the wings.Hayles Hume and Fryatt are all strikers. They are useless wingers We can loan again from next week. So unless we were going to sign anyone permanently, it didn't matter if we got them yesterday. Lee Cook would have been nice, but he's a Cockney so it wasn't surprising to see him stay in London. I still hope we can get Sinclair from Chelsea next week or so.

STUHILL Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 I reckon Holloway will be looking at 2 loan deals for wingers now. Maybe some Prem youngsters who have some flair and can alternate with the Hungarians when needed. Overall review of window, well we did well early on and brought in some very useful players. Kind of fizzled out at the end but hopefully this just means we are preparing a bigger summer budget and spend. I'm much happier with the team but if we are going to get promotion next season, then we need to build on this good work we have done in the summer!!!!
