Nationwider Posted 26 April 2008 Posted 26 April 2008 I spoke to a Bournemouth STH tonight. Gradel wasn't expected back. He was astonished he made it back considering what he's going through. He went on to say that he's made the same impact this season that Jermaine Defoe did when he spent time with Bournemouth, only Gradel has a better attitude. Defoe holds the AFCB record for the most consecutive games scored in for the Cherries - 11, or something like that - so it shows the impact he's had there. He was subbed with one minute to go today and, according to my source, received the loudest standing ovation he could remember any Cherries' player getting. He is favourite, allegedly, to get the AFCB Player of the Season Award from the fans.
Bryn Posted 26 April 2008 Posted 26 April 2008 And yet we're sacking about with our set of dicks. If I'd put as much energy into games as I'd like to, as much as most of you have, I'd want to cry and cry. If we get relegated, I think we should just play the lads that have shown a bit of passion, Hume, perhaps Kisnorbo, and just play our academy lads. Stearman, Mattock, Gradel, Beswick, King, Wesolowski, Sappleton, Chambers.

Stearman, Mattock, Gradel, Beswick, King, Wesolowski, Sappleton, Chambers. And if we're not relegated? Carry on with the same stupid approach that has threatened to send us down in previous seasons not just this one? Sadly the Leicester City of today would rather turn to ageing loanees and untried foreign mercenaries instead of building a team properly. Now it's in the process of exploding in their faces as a hard and painful lesson. Not that I think they'll learn from it for a minute. Some of them are too sodding arrogant to learn, or too dense. Either that or there's a spin off to employing domestic loanees or untried foreign mercenaries that's not there with home-produced players.
Ric Flair Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Bournemouth are dulling the pain I feel from my actual team. I went mad when I heard Gradel was back and when i'd found out they'd won, I actually forgot about Leicester for just one moment. You'll Never Beat The Cherries.

It's on the verge of becoming folklore. If they make up one more point they'll justify a complete remake of The Great Escape. Stirring stuff and that standing ovation for Gradel must have done wonders for the kid with the problems he's had.

I wonder whether Gradel would actually rather stay there permanently? If he does, I might join him.
Ric Flair Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 MAXI'S AGONYExclusive By Neil Perrett Comment | Read Comments (10) TOUGH TIME: Maxi Gradel EMOTIONAL Cherries loan star Maxi Gradel has admitted he was ready to turn his back on football for the sake of his family. The popular winger lined up in Cherries' 1-0 victory over Crewe on Saturday after making an unexpected 11th hour return to Dean Court. Gradel had been in Paris for a fortnight trying to resolve a custody issue through the courts involving his younger brother and sister. And Cherries boss Kevin Bond had all but given up hope of seeing him again this season after being unable to contact him for a week. Gradel has been partly responsible for caring for brother Mocktar, eight, and 12-year-old sister Fatou since the untimely death of their mother in October. Maimouna passed away due to a brain condition at just 46 and her death left Gradel as the head of the family. His mother and father had been separated. advertisement In an exclusive and moving interview with the Daily Echo, Gradel said: "I have thought very seriously about giving up football to look after my brother and sister. "I went to see my mum when she was ill and then came back here to play. She died without me being with her. "I felt bad because I didn't look after her properly and I felt bad because I didn't give enough time to my family. "I've been through a very difficult time. I've got my brother and sister to look after and it's been tough. "They are both okay and hopefully things will be better next week." Gradel, 20, added: "I caught the Eurostar at about five o'clock on Friday morning to come here. I saw the manager and told him I was ready to play. "The reception from the supporters was very emotional. They make you feel better and give you more confidence. You want to give them 100 per cent in every game. "I'm proud of the boys for giving it everything over the past few weeks and would like to thank the supporters for everything they have done for me since I've been here." Boss Bond plucked an untried Gradel from Leicester City during pre-season and Foxes chairman Milan Mandaric has generously assisted with his stay at Dean Court. Bond said: "I had just finished running around the pitch on Friday and Max was sat in the dug out. It was great to see him. "He gave everybody a lift and contributed to our victory." Maxi Read some of those comments from the Bournemouth fans, unbelievable. Well done Messrs Holloway.
Thracian Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Wouldn't a winning Gradel goal in that last match be a footballing fairytale? It's the stuff of films.
davieG Posted 28 April 2008 Author Posted 28 April 2008 MaxiRead some of those comments from the Bournemouth fans, unbelievable. Well done Messrs Holloway. There's a good chance they'll see him next season playing for us, not sure how he'd feel if that happened as he obviously has a great respect for Bournemouth and that seems to be reciprocated. I guess in amongst it all MM deserves some credit for supporting his stay there although in hindsight it should never have been allowed without a recall clause - I can't believe that any loan deal is signed without one absolutely incredible.

Absolutely. I'm glad Gradel has made the impression he has, but it should have been for us in this final part of the season. One things for sure Gradel's year at Bournemouth will probably make him a better player than if he was here in and out of the team.
Manwell Pablo Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Sort of makes you wonder if we loaned him just out so he was a Eurostar ride away from Paris really. He's been very impressive, hope he gets a look in here next season. Although I would say he isn't doing this all by himself, their are several key players for Bournemouth who have really raised their game these past few weeks.

lookwhaticando Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Perhaps we should nick their manager he obviously gets on with MM, wasn't he at Portsmouth with Harry? Twice. First with Redknapp as reserves coach. Second time (Harry's return) as assistant.
Manwell Pablo Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Shocking challenge from Shush! as well, could well of broken a leg.
Ultra Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 But footage shows he played the ball first! Still, there's clearly no place at our club for a left-back who dares to make tackles..
Bryn Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 If we survive this season, Gradel's loan spell can only be good for us. I've heard that he had a streak of petulance before but he has demonstrated fantastic maturity, patience, responsibility and respect in his time there as well as skill. Providing we stay up he will return to us double the player he left as and he must be the first name on the sheet next season.

He's not changed his personality just because he's been on loan. remember the penalty incident when he wouldn't let the delegated taker have the ball? He's never been anything but a great guy to have in a team but you'll never get him to be emotionally bland. And by the time he's been pissed about at Leicester next season with bits of games here and there and then being left out because he didn't track back or something he'll be wishing he was back at Bournemouth. Don't believe me? We'll see. It happened to Shush! and it's happened to Mattock and Wesolowski.

Ironic you say that seeing everyone was complaining he didn't get tight enough and tackle. I've not seen it but if he got the ball first what's the big deal? Would Manwell have been complaining every week had we'd ever signed Roy Keane or Norman Hunter?

Thracian Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 it was a two-footed knee-high lunge, he got the ball by luck more then judgement Strange you say that seeing as he got the ball. Are you saying he got the ball when really going for the man? Was the ball knee high or on the ground. Pity someone can't post a link to the tackle. Was it worse than Tiatto used to do every week?

IT WAS A KNEE-HIGH TWO-FOOTED LUNGE, A LEG BREAK WAITING TO HAPPEN I know your a fan but to defend that kind of tackle is a disgrace
