The People's Hero Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 Kerry Mayo What's your sauce? He's always looked a bit tasty in that league, especially when the chips are down... and that's a condiment indeed.
Thracian Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 I know we have, but to be fair, you've yet to prove that Shee-han is any good from open play as his assists and scoring record from that situation is just as bad if not worse than Joe Mattock's. But I will admit that Shee-han's work from set pieces cannot be under-estimated, and if he could defend, it wouldn't matter if he was dangerous from open play going forward. That's mainly the job of the wingers. Four successive clean sheets at Leeds, where he plays left-back, compares with six goals conceded by City in the last four games and only two clean sheets in the last eight. Indeed our last run of clean sheets was when Clapham was left-back. Remarks like "class player" are being made about Shush! too and how long has it been since anyone said that about a left-back of ours? Would we have to go back as far as Pontus Kaamark?
The People's Hero Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 Rob Ullathorne had a bit of class about him. Complete tos ser but had some class. It's a moot point though because Shush! played for us quite a few times. He was occasionally very good, sometimes steady but on the whole liable to have a shocker and HE CAN'T DEFEND.

He could defend and get forward.
The People's Hero Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 We're all forgetting about super Benny Thatcher. Maniac. Rash Challenges. Wasted unless free kicks by twatting them against the wall, leading to conceding breakaway goals. That ridiculous challenge elbow charge thing after he left us. Telling me Maidstone was a sh it hole when I met him at our player of the year do. I also over heard him call Jordan Stewart a cu nt. Seriously. That's the sort of player we need.

Oh shut up about the leeds fans FFS when they were all slateing him to high heaven you coudn't give a monkeys what they thought, now all of a sudden they're saying nice things about him and your all over them. It really does just go to show you have your own personal agenda.

In fact I don't think I'd have noticed what Leeds fans were saying either way if someone with their agenda hadn't mentioned the criticism.

Father Ted Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 Arsenal haven't kept a clean sheet for quite some time, are you suggesting Gael Clichy should be taking a leaf out of Shee-han's book? TBH, it's the central defenders that are the main defenders are mostly instrumental in clean sheets - not full-backs/wing-backs. The reason that Arsenal have been leaking so many goals is because of the poor understanding between Senderos and Gallas. Can't we just leave Sheeehan alone, if he was any good he would be playing week in week out for us.

But i'm sure all the teams that have faced Cristiano Ronaldo this season will be thankful for your leniance.
James. Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 Arsenal haven't kept a clean sheet for quite some time, are you suggesting Gael Clichy should be taking a leaf out of Shee-han's book? The logic is absolutely laughable. I can't believe this thread is still open to be honest. We can't recall Gradel and we all agree that he could be a fantastic player for us next season so really all that gets talked about is Sheehan. What's the point?

Fat Ron Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 Arsenal haven't kept a clean sheet for quite some time, are you suggesting Gael Clichy should be taking a leaf out of Shee-han's book? Well it certainly fits his argument
Thracian Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 Arsenal haven't kept a clean sheet for quite some time, are you suggesting Gael Clichy should be taking a leaf out of Shee-han's book? Not sure I could even have spelt Gael Clichy before you mentioned him but I was pointing out that the convenient boxing off of Mattock = good defender, Shush! = bad defender, is wishful thinking, I'm afraid. Would that it were different. Would that Mattock was flawless, would that Clapham was more than a journeyman defender and would that we weren't facing the fast increasing prospect of relegation due to a lack of goals and our stupidity in ditching the source of some of em. Would that our football club were so rich in creative footballers it didn't matter who'd been checked out of the fight anyway. Perhaps next season!

That logic is indeed laughable, but Thracian was trying to claim that Leeds 4 recent clean sheet's is evidence that Shee-han is the more accomplished full back than Joe Mattock because we've only kept 2 clean sheets in 8 games. Leading fans around the globe to define Shee-han as a class player, soemthing we've not had since Kamaark.

I don't remember comparing the two as defenders but simply used the stats to show - as I could show with lots of other stats - that any idea that Shush! can't defend and Mattock is, meanwhile, brilliant simply doesn't stand up. Seems to me that Shush! has already improved his fitness since he's been at Leeds and if they've managed to get him defending tighter and to be faster on the turn then they'll have an outstanding left back by Championship standards and we'll have egg on our faces.

Ric Flair Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 No I know Ric, don't get me wrong, I saw what Thracian said and I completely agree with you... Sorry, I think this Shee-han lark is getting the better of me. Thracian, I surrender. You win.

I didn't want Gradel "recalled" I said loud and clear I didn't want him going in the first place - not while we had the likes of Newton. Had we been able or wise enough to recall him in January it would have merely corrected a previuous mistake. Next season is no use if we've already been relegated. Besides we'll still no doubt try a few footballing has-beens or untried imports first.

Well I guess that's that then. Debate over. Well played Thracian, a thoroughly deserved victory. I guess we all just move on now. So, err, Beswick. I think he's shit. Let's loan the f**ker out.
