Thracian Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 Great, lets draw a line underneath it then. ___________________________________
davieG Posted 24 April 2008 Author Posted 24 April 2008 Max has disappeared. BOSS Kevin Bond fears Cherries may have seen the last of popular Leicester City loan star Maxi Gradel. Bond has been unable to contact the 20-year-old since he returned to his Paris home to deal with a pressing family matter 11 days ago. Gradel, as the eldest male, has been partly responsible for caring for his younger brother and sister since the untimely death of their mother in October. Maimouna passed away due to a brain condition at just 46 and her death left Gradel as the head of the family. His mother and father had been separated. And as Gradel has been sharing his time between England and France, it is believed his 11-year-old sister has been caring for his eight-year-old brother. In an attempt to address the situation, Ivory Coast-born Gradel headed back to France earlier this month to pursue the matter through the court. Bond told the Daily Echo last night: "I spoke to Max after the Bristol Rovers game and he told me he needed to go to France. "I was aware of a legal situation regarding the custody of his younger brother and sister and although he said he was hoping to come back for the Walsall game, I knew it might be doubtful. "Some things are more important than football, even at this critical stage of the season for us, and what Max has got to deal with is certainly more important. We totally understand and respect that. "I spoke to him again at the end of last week when he reaffirmed that he wouldn't be able to get over for the Walsall game. "With everything that's gone on in his young life over the past six to eight months, he sounded disillusioned. "I sensed that all was not well and he's clearly got lots of family issues to take care of. I haven't been able to contact him since Friday and I wouldn't anticipate him pulling on a shirt for Bournemouth again." The inspirational winger, who has hit 10 goals for Cherries this season, is believed to be in the running for a number of the supporters' end-of-season awards. And unless his situation changes dramatically, Gradel is unlikely to receive the send-off he deserves when Cherries host Crewe in their final home game of the season on Saturday. "If he rings me and says he wants to come back, I would pick him up myself," said Bond. "But he needs to prioritise in the situation he's in and we all respect that. "Losing Max is massively disappointing for us because he's probably been our most consistently threatening player this season.
Ric Flair Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Such a shame, I hope he get's things sorted. What a glowing reference from Bond though, we have a special player on our hands. I hope we are helping Maxi in every way possible with his problems, we need him next season, I have every faith that this lad could win us matches on his own and we've not had a player like that for years.
Raj Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 The Kid must be heartbroken and to have the burden of looking after his siblings must be immense. Hope he pulls through okay and can resume his career eventually.
Ric Flair Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 What Gradel has had to deal with this season and the performances he has put in for Bournemouth highlights the mental strength this kid has. I hope he cleans up at the end of season awards, he deserves it.
The Stig Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 I hope Max stays strong and the thought of playing for City inspires him to get through this difficult time. Good luck Max we're all thinking of you.
Milans Foxes Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Read all the comments from fans at the bottom of the page. Sounds like he has been their best player all season and that is saying something as they have a few good youngsters such as Vokes. "All the best Maxi. Gave us the entertainment value that had long been missed at the games. Hope to see you get things straight and getting a start at Leicester next year." "Good Luck to you Maxi. You have been fantastic for Bournemouth this season and you will be missed." "In my opinion he has been outstanding for the Cherries this season, and whilst one player does not make a team, without Max I think the season would be over for us by now" "I don't know whether or not you will ever read this but I want to say that you have been brilliant for us this season. Thank you for the effort and character you have shown throughout your time with us, despite it having been such a difficult time for you over the last few months. For sure, we wouldn't still be hanging on to our League One survival hopes without you." Looking at that, I doubt that we will need to invest in another right winger now we have Bell and Gradel.
RowlattsFox Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 What are the chances that he ends up out on loan again next season. maybe to a French team so he can get things sorted back home?

There are too many questions to be sure how the Gradel situation will work out. But I'm sure we'll sign a right winger, whatever. It's something we do. If Cadamarteri rings up to say he's really a right winger I'm sure they'd sign him again. Even when Gradel was the best in the club we still signed right wingers. If Cristiano Ronaldo was here we'd still sign someone else - perhaps a penalty-taking right winger. It's almost like a nervous tic we've got. Leicester City right wingers in the recent past: Sylla, Low, Hughes, Maybury, Stearman, Newton, Ashley Chambers, Hume, Bori, Etuhu, Bell, hell there's been a whole team of em and I imagine there's been more. No reason to think it'll stop.

It's great to read things like that about a player of ours, I think he's been more loved down there than Jermain Defoe was, which is unbelievable. Gradel has spent most of the season playing on the left wing for Bournemouth so his ability to play on either flank is another added bonus.
Joe. Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 I can't wait to see Max in a Leicester shirt. Him on Bell on either wings would give us two pretty exciting wingers for next season. Just hope he manages to sort out things back home so he can focus on his football soon.
Ric Flair Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 What are the chances that he ends up out on loan again next season. maybe to a French team so he can get things sorted back home? I doubt it. I'd like to think that his family matters will be sorted by next season, I read that it has gone to the courts, probably over custody and bringing them over to England. If the club get involved, it may speed up matters. I'm sure Maxi would want his brother and sister in England with him if possible. I dread to think how good he'll be when he hasn't got all of this hanging over his head, he's ripped League One apart with the traumatic events that have happened.

These sort events bring fans back to reality about football players, were all human were all effected by emotion. But the lad has given his all for Bournmouth and they appreciate it, let's hope he sorts his issues out so he can concentrate on his career!!

Absolutely, Gradel should be an inspiration to young footballers. He's been criticised by our fans in the past for his petulism and attitude, yet what he's had to deal with and how he's performed at Bournemouth has proved all that to be a load of bollocks. Gradel has belief in his self, add that to his natural talent and you've got a player. I hope others take note.

Attiude is much more acceptable in a quality player, in fact it can make the difference between making it and not making it. The petulance will hopefully become more controlled as he matures and achieves recognition for his talent.

Agreed, we've had our fair share of pre-maddona's and big time charlies, and here's a young player along way from home and his 'comfortable' surroundings goign on loan with the aim to do his best. I really hope this incident or issue does not push him to move back, the more i read about the guy the more I thinkhe'll be an assett for us!!

Rob Kelly would have brought petulance out of Mother Teresa the way he built his team around armies of defenders.

I think there are signs that he's growing out of it anyway, he's not had too many cards and the only sign of real petulance I can remember was the penalty incident with Pitman.

And given how shit Pittman is, he had every right to snatch the ball off him............ twice!
Stevosevic Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Anyone think we might be expecting too much of this lad? What are the chances we get to Christmas and he still hasn't played a first team game, goes out on loan in January and leaves in the summer? It could happen.

Minimal, if you are aware of what this boy is capable of.
