Whats your opinion on them?

People like George Galloway reckon that all dogs should be muzzled when they are out in public. I think only certain dogs should be muzzled. The majority of dogs are fine and sensible.Of course most dog owners would usually say things like "he won't bite" if the dog is approaching a youngster. In most cases this is correct but I think their will always be a threat if the child somehow upsets the dog.

For me its a no.

i've long felt that all dogs should be muzzled and on a leash at all times when in public places ; even quite small dogs can cause a lot of injury to children . i agree with GG

Absolutely no way on earth. The policy should focus on not allowing dangerous breeds to be bred and stopping morons owning or getting anywhere near pets, the laws are far too lenient, not in terms of protecting people but protecting the animals.

The amount of violent dogs is so small and most incidents involve some provokation from the little shit children anyway.

Can we muzzle and chain all the people who are a threat while we're at it?

And Galloway for a few months too, just as an experiment, so he appreciates what he's proposing.

Doctor Erasmus Yapp, a famous vet has scientific proof that the common domesticated dog has far better eyesight than science ever gave them credit for.

'When we see dogs staring' said Professor Yapp, 'we think that they are just staring into space, but the actual reality is that they see far more than we do. We think Dogs are just foolish, I mean any animal that puts it's tongue all the way down there, and drinks out of the toilet won't be the sharpest tool in the box, but they see things far better than we are give them credit for'.

The fool went onto say that Gerbils and Guinea Pigs are one year away from launching a rocket to Mars, that Octopus's could walk on the land, but that they don't like tarmac, and that Sheep would take over Western civilization if only they had opposable thumbs.

Your point?

Much as I like George Galloway this suggestion is stupid and unreasonable. For instance, how would I muzzle my Bulldog. He ain't got no nose!!!

really  how does he smell

( someone had to say it ;) )

but if you've got a bulldog you should put a box over its head because those ugly drooling feckers should not be seen outdoors anyway ;)

my point is that all dogs should be muzzled licensed and insured for injury to third parties so that there is no misunderstanding about what constitutes a so-called dangerous breed

eg rottweillers are not classed as dangerous dogs but have caused quite a lot of death and injury

but it looks like i'm in a minority of 1 :( but i'm quite used to that

I'm damned if I'm muzzling my dog.

I've been training it for almost a year now and that will go to waste if he isn't allowed to attack small children upon command.

I've also trained him to shit in a bag, place it on door steps and set fire to it...people will be calling a halt to that too, next!

Fekking do-gooding liberal PC wankers

If that's the name of his child then it deserves biting,

If there's no dog up to it then I am happy to do the business.

Stepped into Potter's role of eating little girls have we?

Ok Daggers.

:D :D

if thats your dog in the avatar ,then i concede that probably there is a case to make an exception for dogs under a few pounds in weight, but seriously the statistics for dog attacks considered as needing serious medical attention at hospital A&E depts rose to 3,800 cases last year

not only this but public parks etc should not be a place where children cannot feel safe from dogs , whose owners seem oblivious to the discomfort felt by other people

rather like smokers used to be oblivious to discomfort felt by non smokers , it took a long time to get the message across

I know someone that breeds these types of dogs. Not seen him for a long while but somebody gave me his number and this thread reminds me that I was going to ring him. Anyway he always used to get angry when people moaned about dangerous dogs. If you have a child you dont get a pitbull. They are not meant to be domestic dogs. They are hunters. I cant argue the case cos I dont have all the facts but this mate does not let the dogs in the house. They are all in kennels/cages in his backyard. He goes out at intervals to chuck em meat and clean them out but apart from that he has no physical or emotional contact with them. The only dogs that have been in my family have been daft and stupid but there was once when my nephew was a toddler he pulled our present dogs tail who turned around and snapped. Luckily my mum was there keeping an eye on both dog and baby and the dog received tapp on the nose. And my nephew recieved a 'No, naughty' command.

Have to agree with you!

Its not just in public, all dogs can turn, I cant imagine having a dog around my child I think its irresponsible.

Hilarious, do you know anything about dogs? My dog has never ever bit anyone in 15 years, not so much as a snap, you can do anything and she will never ever bite, just isn't in her nature. Saying she could 'turn' is like saying a peaceful human could suddenly become a vicious killer - ain't gonna happen. Not all dogs are vicous, many have very nice temperaments

It should be the fucking owners of dangerous dogs that get muzzled, not the dogs. It's not the dog's fault they are violent, it's more than likely due to irresponsible breeding or mistreatment.

Forcing owners to wear a nice big muzzle on their face might make them think twice about breeding/buying/mistreating one of these dogs in the future.

exactly it's the scrotes that own them and think it's funny and clever to treat them like crap, wind them up and so on.

Imo a law change is needed in terms of the RSPCA they are very very limited in the immediate action they can take when deal with scum bag owners who mistreat their pets

Some breeds have been specially crossbred for a purpose. Dogs like piitbulls were not around before the Victorian era. They were bred to have a vicious temper. If anyone is considering getting a dog and they have a small child they should seek advice from a dog expert or at least read up on them. They might look cute when puppies but most breeds have their own temperment.. Why are only Labradors mainly used as guide dogs? There are dogs best suited for rabbiting (Springers). Not all dogs will turn but if they are feeling unwell they will not be the same playful selfs. People buy some breeds of dogs for a status symbol.

The one we had couldn't have done any harm anyway. He had no teeth. It may have been the same one. Once my sister took him on a park and being a cross-strett-accident-terrier liked to pick fights with bigger dogs. Well this time he came away with blood around his mouth. An hysterical woman the other dogs owner starting to go on about how her poor dog had been hurt. (blood on him too) But my sister just laughed.

'No it's not your dog thats hurt, the blood is off mine, he's cut his gums.'

So there is good and bad. It depends why you want a dog as to whether you should have one. Maybe some dogs should have a removable muzzle like a lead. If somebody needs to leave their pet with a toddler the muzzle it. I think I would no matter how gentle the dog is.

Whether it should be law I don't know. Dogs are required to wear leads so why not muzzles in certain circumstances?

Just cos no one else has said it yet...

AWFUL!!!

The old ones are the best, apparently

MrsG was attacked by a dog not much bigger than a large cat when she was out walking, it jumped up at her put it's teeth right through her jeans and into her leg.

This was a dog on a lead, what did it's owner do fook all, didn't even apologise. She now has to take a wide berth everytime we pass a dog.

Muzzling all dogs would seem a bit extreme, I would suggest that all dog owners should be compelled to have their dogs trained and to undertake training themselves and pay a licence with compulsary 3rd party insurance. Dogs should be like cars taxed, mot'd and insured.

They are animals not humans, my mum had a dog for 19 years wouldnt harm a fly, one day as she went to stroke it it turned and bit her hand, it was the softest dog ever you could put your hand in its mouth it would never bite you.

Comparing a dog to a human is stupid, not saying each dog can kill but they can bite and I would never have a dog around a small child...not worth the risk.
