Ozwin Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 I quite liked his 5-3-2 formation as it gave us extra protection at the back and gave us the counter attacking option with the wing backs (Joe Mattock and Stearman - Who aren't the greatest defencively). I'm thinking maybe the 4-4-2 isn't working for us. Anyway, as much as I'd hate to say it he'd probably be doing a lot better as manager than Holloway. But we'll never know will we?

dandannieldanok Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 I think we would have been clear of relegation but certainly no higher than mid-table.
Uncle Albert Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 No he wouldnt of! We would be 2nd bottom by now.
Chrysalis Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 I am actually more of a fan of 3-5-2 I find 4-4-2 too boring and predictable.
Chromophobia Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 I think we would be lower mid table. Not biting at the promotion hopers heals but safe from relegation worrys. It's infuriating how Holloway seemingly knows no formation other than 4-4-2. And then when it's the end of the game you haven't got a clue what the formation is, because he's lumped 3 strikers on. Is one in midfield, are they all up front? Do the players even know? A tactically inept manager will always falter at playing different formations. Why haven't we tried 4-5-1 for instance? Hume playing behind the lone striker perhaps. who fooking knows. Holloway certainly doesn't.
Joe. Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 Megson was shit and we were going absolutely nowhere with him. We looked less likely to score with him in charge and we rarely won, maybe grabbing the odd 1-0 here and there. We should be thankful we saw the back of him to be honest, he was far too defensive minded for my liking.
Anish Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 I think we would've done better. His team would've bored the opposition to death (along with the fans!) and we looked good at set pieces undere Megson. It's noticeable how each successive manager this season has only succeeded in dropping us further into the mire. We were in no way relegation candidates under Megson, despite all his flaws.

Nobody are relegation candidates in October. This isn't the Premiership. We were going no where with Megson, an ultra defensive manager who bored everyone to death and nicked the odd 1-0 here and there. We had problems scoring then, and we have problems scoring now. I agree we might not have been relegation candidates but we would probably have been lower midtable which is good in hindsight I suppose.
davieG Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 No one knows, it really is pointless conjecture. If we survive rejoice, if we get relegated look the problem in the face, grieve and don't look at what ifs - they weren't so it really doesn't matter.
maddog Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 Yes this is pointless. But im certain if we stuck with Martin Allen we would be in the play off places easily.
Father Ted Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 I would definitely think so. If he got a few quality signings in then we could have been on the way forward.
Dames Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 I'm liking the way people are moaning about nicking 1-0s here and there. At the minute i'd love to be fooking nicking 1-0s here and there tbh.

davieG Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 Would we have been better off with Levein + MM's money Would we have been better off with Kelly + MM's money Would we have been better of with Burrows + MM's money What is the point???
Rich Fox Posted 12 March 2008 Posted 12 March 2008 Would rether watch Leicester in the conferance than have megson as manager. For me he was the worst manager ive seen in 30 years at city and i still have nightmares about him. Also bolton will go down.

You never know, that wish might come true in a few years. I wonder what Megson's win ratio is compared to Ollies? Just wondering.

Derby won quite a few 1-0 s last season and it got them up yes the're getting stuffed now but i know where i'd rather be i found Megson boring but i think we would be safe by now
